While I can appreciate legitimate concerns for the inordinate influence of the Israeli lobby in American politics, I would have to disagree on this one. I think it is regretable that my country and -possibly yours- have not found a way to participate and steer this conference towards a less politically motivated and a less parochial discussion of intolerance. I just finished reading the lengthy declaration from the first Durban Conference. The anti Israeli rhetoric is not even thinly veiled. While the plight of the Palestinian should have a place in discussions it is obvious that such a biased conference would be in no position to objectively seeks workable solutions for their plight. Even if an Israeli delegation were present and willing to listen, it would require other delegations to listen to it. Oddly there is no direct mention of states which tolerate death to citizens who try to convert to other religions. A conference on racism and tolerance is supposed to combat hatred not encourage it. I have to agree with Isael on this one.
