64. Will a Palestinian state produce peace?
Dave Ronen ,   Haifa   (04.28.09)
A poll by An-Najah National University in May showed a clear majority of Palestinians rejecting statehood alongside Israel. Despite this evidence, many prefer to believe that Israeli occupation is the core issue and that creating a Palestinian state will produce peace by ending it. This, too, makes no sense. It is simply a flat-earth statement to describe Judea, Samaria and Gaza as occupied. And how can Israeli and global leaders agree to negotiate with the Palestinians when their claims are built on a foundation of lies and deceit? More at : http://xrl.us/ostjf
65. THE real problem as Arabs see it....
stargazer ,   Israel   (04.28.09)
"If the Jews left Palestine to us, would we start loving them? Of course not ... They are enemies not because they occupied Palestine. They would have been enemies even if they did not occupy a thing," said Egyptian cleric Muhammad Hussein Ya'qoub. "... You must believe that we will fight, defeat, and annihilate them, until not a single Jew remains on the face of the Earth." (Al-Rahma TV (Egypt), Jan. 17, 2009)
66. A “Palestinian state”
Robert Bernier ,   Tel Aviv   (04.28.09)
Under the 1933 Montevideo Treaty, a state must satisfy four specific requirements: It must have a permanent population, a defined territory, a government, and the capacity to enter into peaceful relations with other states. The Palestinian Authority under Abbas does not satisfy any one of these requisites. While it has “permanent residents,” it has also a large portion of unsettled refugees. And it certainly does not have “a defined territory” as evidenced by its official maps. Its display of all of Western Palestine is indicative of its intentions to undermine the Jewish State. As to a “government,” Abbas is running a gang rather than an acceptable government; it lacks legitimacy, as large portions of the Palestinians do not accept him as the leader. The fourth criterion is absolutely clear- it lacks the capacity to live in peace with its neighbor - Israel. To paraphrase Dean Acheson’s words: being “inoffensive” towards a Palestinian terrorist state would destroy the oldest, most vibrant democracy in the Middle East as explained at: http://xrl.us/oo2sk
67. Palestinians, the BIG problem
cas reader   (04.28.09)
The author forget to mention that problems with Kurds, the Basques, Catalonians, Corsicans, and Scots will not lead to WW3 but an unresolved conflict with the Palestinians will lead the mother of all battles.
68. A state for me, but not for thee
Giora Me'ir ,   USA   (04.28.09)
69. archeological/ biblical findings
mary ,   Dublin, Ireland   (04.28.09)
so how exactly can you prove the conversation between God and Abraham in which the land was promised by God. and which archeological / biblical findings exactly are you basing your claim for Jewish rights to the land? Professor Herzog of Tel Aviv disputed the claims of proof found by Yigal Yadin for Solomons supposed fortifications ( and indeed for the very existance of David and Solomon. Look at your own claims before you rubbish others. The reality is that zionism is a political ideology which has sanctioned dispossession and oppression of others; that has sanctioned murder, torture and inhuman punishments; that has taken on for itself the right to attack sovereign states with impunity and that daily, while claiming to have set up a set which is 'a light unto other nations' denies even basic human rights to a whole people. i suggest Hannah you look at what is happening on the ground and ask yourself what God would sanction the present behaviour of the Israeli state. Your article makes me sad that after all this time this is the best an Israeli can come up with in terms of analysis.
70. #3 Agree with you .one Jew thinking out of the box, you must
George ,   Canada   (04.28.09)
a western raised jew and inspired by democratic western country not living the bible myths. Really I don’t understand the crooked logic most of Jews present. They don’t want one dual ethnic state where Palestinian and Jews live together which is more realistic, in the same time they don’t want give him a piece of land to let them by themselves. America and the allies helped re- build German nazi after war and no body was thinking we are helping our enemy although the Palestinian they didn’t commit what the Nazi did for humanity. “Their modern demand for independence stems from a desire to harass us” “All the archeological and biblical findings prove that we were here much before them, yet the contemporary narrative insists on equality of historical rights between us. “ Those two clauses show how much the demagogy becomes an Alzheimer for most Israeli.
71. State-less cultures
Jay ,   Canada   (04.28.09)
All the other state-less cultures you mentioned are citizens of the nations in which they reside, and are able to vote and have political sway that effects the entire nation. Something tells me you don't like the idea of Palestinians voting, working, praying and raising their kids in Israel, in the house next door to where you live. There is no state-less culture on earth that has the political situation of the Palestinians, with just enough autonomy to have no effect on the country in which you feel they reside (yours), and not enough autonomy to be considered a state. And as for your perceived "qualifications" for statehood, most countries on earth were arbitrarily carved out on maps by colonial powers with no regard for who lived there first and what the borders of their culture entail. Saying the Palestinians aren't even "a people" is ignoring the fact that they still lived on that land for centuries, and have nowhere else to go. Let me guess, you think they should go live with "the other arabs." Sure, kick the Italians out of Italy and they can all go live with the Germans. Or kick out the Namibians and they can all go live with the Sudanese.
72. Call it what you may
i ,   jerusalem   (04.28.09)
population transfer, refugee resettlement, ethnic cleansing, Kahanism, racism, or bla bla bla , it is what is just, what is compassionate, what is viable and effective. Israel needs to be de- Arabized just as Jordan,. Syria, and the Haj is Judenrein. That the average local resident Arab alien knows that his bread is buttered better here is just too plain crying bad. Squatters are squatters even after three generations and if they cant get on the civic program then they can find someother free lunch to suck.
73. 11 David G.: Criminals are locked up in jails, but Palestini
Rivkah   (04.29.09)
an criminals want a separate State to stage attacks on Israel from. The solution is to put the Palestinians on reservations without armaments with walls around them and guards to keep them in like American Indians experienced long ago when they were ungovernable.
74. 26,29 What fun your posts are, Irmo. I love you. R.

75. Jews came to Palestine/Canaan from Iraq (remember Abraham)
proud palestinian ,   washington dc   (04.29.09)
Anyone who says that jews lived in Palestine "before the Palestinians" has absolutely no idea what they are talking about. Abraham, the so-called father of the jews came from southern Iraq to Palestine as an immigrant. These are the facts.
76. They Have A Country
A.C.Guard ,   USA   (04.30.09)
The Palestinians already have a country, it is called Jordan. It is not Israel's fault that these people are so quarrelsome that Jordan threw them out.
77. #75 when the first jew became jewish he went to cnaan
(05.02.09)
palestinian, how can you be proud to bear a name some roman gave the land, because he forgot what the extinct race (that was extinct for a millenium by then) was called? it's laughable at best, onimous at worst. and suits you like a glove
