1. in the next winter there pray it won't rain.
ghostq   (04.30.09)
all this show nobody really cares about gaza, gaza is just being used for political agenda by the arab stats. they don't have any intention to help that dead end place, they know they will get nothing in return.
2. Good for him.
JO   (04.30.09)
I have seen the homeless and refugees of poor countries use such methods, albeit cheaper, one costs 150$ a time. $3000 would be beyond all means. Helping oneself is very commendable. They are not alone in the world, there are many people in this world, many who have no water, electricity, live on one rice bowl a day (and clean water a mile a way), not to mention no good medical no tvs or internet, and they never get the help the Palestinians do. Gaza is in a far better place economically than most. So good for him. Inventions and hard work are always better than handouts, and give greater honour too.
3. Free Gilad Shalit, recognize Israel's right to exist, adhere
Nahum ,   Haifa   (04.30.09)
to all signed agreements with Israel and cease all acts of terror and violence against Israel and Israelis and the preparations for such acts and normal life will return to Gaza. Insist on wiping the Jewish national home off the face of earth will cause you to continue to pay, and dearly.
4. Great idea
Einstein ,   Israel   (04.30.09)
Why don't you use all the efforts and monies you are expending in smuggling in missiles to kill Israeli civilians, and use them for providing for your people.
5. starting clay fortification against Israeli missiles
observer   (04.30.09)
6. Wonderful news
Allon ,   London   (04.30.09)
It seems through their supposed hardship, they are realising life can carry on without the need for concrete steel and, oh firing rockets into another country.
7. the problem is when they use pipes to make rockets
(04.30.09)
8. Hamas pushing Gazans into the Middle Ages and beyond!
The Doc ,   Haifa, Israel   (04.30.09)
I hope that Gazans and for that matter, the entire Arab world, sees how their leaders push them back on the civilization scale. Nobody good comes out of extremist Islam. While the "leaders" live in opulence with drug and terror money, the masses live in clay houses and, if the current situation continues, they will soon discover caves and "holes in the ground". I wonder when will the Arab masses that discover that their leaders have been lying to them all this time and that the reason for their pathetic poverty is NOT Israel, the Jews or the "Crusaders", but their own blood-sucking, terrorist leaders whose only interest is live a comfortable lives, with millions and billions in private Swiss accounts. I wonder WHEN the Arab masses discover that true peace with Israel is the ONLY solution to their problems. Wars and terror only worsened their situation and it will continue to be so until they also say "enough is enough"! Say "NO" to religious, political and racist Islamic extremism - tore down your bloodthirsty leaders and start building a future WITH Israel. You have NO future without a solid and true peace with Israel!
9. Crossings to Israel closed?
Yoni R. ,   Modiin, Israel   (04.30.09)
Irrespective of what one thinks about Israel closing the crossings, it's not the real problem. Remember that there is a crossing with Egypt that Israel has no control over. The fact that no supplies have come through there debunks the lie that Israel is holding up reconstruction.
10. Very ingenious!
Pal Pal ,   The M E   (04.30.09)
Let's hope that the Israelis don't declare it illegal and bulldoze it into the ground!
11. to #10 pleas land to earth
ghostq   (04.30.09)
Israel don't buldozer in gaza, Israel is not even in gaza.
12. It's about time that Arbs start doing something productive
Genuine Tosefta ,   Tveria   (04.30.09)
instead of irrational hatred and senseless violence. Gaza and the entire Arb Middle East are the world's first entirely parasitic culture because they imitate poorly, consume voraciously, spit hatred, export death, and create nothing. The painful truth is that the acts of violence and barbarism occurring at present in the Arb world are nothing but the natural consequence of generations of Arbs having been misled and force-fed speeches filled with hostility and hatred for others over the course of decades, which deepened the backwardness and the ignorance in the Arb world.
13. #8 Doc...Not true...
Edithann ,   USA   (04.30.09)
It's a holding pattern..Palestinians are showing the Jews they wont be beaten into legitimizing Israel on their lands ... You can say anything you want..but it doesn't make it true.. Why should Palestinians give up their homes and lands to Jews?
14. Shhh keep this secret from the senior members of the PA
zionist forever   (04.30.09)
Abbass sons and many other senior members of the PA have in the past sold concrete to Israel to use in the construction of the security barrier or the construction of settlements. These Fatah crooks wouldn't be to happy to know that people were rebuilding and they were not making any money off it. Its easy to see why Hamas were elected considering the corruption that goes on at the highest levels in Fatah.
15. #13 are you wearing a burqa yet?
rachel ,   usa   (04.30.09)
16. Good for him!
Golan ,   SL   (04.30.09)
See what happens when the Arabs stop receiving ill gotten aid money and are forced to use their imagination? As for the rain jokes, Gaza is not Houston Texas. And 'mud' bricks were used by the Egyptians for thousands of years. Its sound technology. You just have to mix it with straw.
17. #13 - Edithann, Because they are illegal occupiers...
Joe ,   Ramat Gan   (04.30.09)
... carrying on a brutal, inhumane occupation that has lasted for over 2000 years. You question why Arabs should give up their homes for Jews, but you never bother to question why the indigenous Jews should be forced to give up their homes to colonialist, expansionist Arabs to recreate a country which never existed. Why is this, Edithann???
18. Expansionist Arabs??#17
Pal Pal ,   The M E   (04.30.09)
Jo, where are Arabs expanding? No-one in Gaza is allowed near the fence, so they can't go anywhere, and in the West Bank, only jews are expanding, deeming non-jewish homes and land illegal, losing title deeds, refusing new permits except when it is for jewish expansion!
19. Trade Shallit for concrete.
Bunnie Meyer ,   Los Angeles, CA USA   (04.30.09)
20. A billion dollars buys an awful lot of clay
Adam Eliyahu Berkowi   (04.30.09)
I am a settler and I feel awful for the Gazans. It isn't the settlers' fault. Basically, the Israeli left wing "peace' camp and the PA head honchos are pocketing a big chunk of money and letting the civilians rot. It was blatantly clear after the war that all this money was going to be 99% misappropriated. Arafat died with 2 billion unnacounted for. No surpirses here, I am sorry to say. It's like all the money set aside to help the people from Gush Katif. It evaporated. And all the money to help sderot. Gone. If I sit in peace with the Gazans, we will talk about who got rich at whose expense.
21. #20 Adam
Pal Pal ,   The M E   (04.30.09)
Adam, you sound like a decent man-somone who is balanced, intelligent, and no BS.
22. Palestinian "leadership" NOT Israel denying their own people
(04.30.09)
23. They're starting to learn!
Aaron ,   SF, USA   (04.30.09)
Yasher coach to these Palestinians. Took them three months to realize they can use their own resources to build statehood and homes instead of mooching off everybody else.
24. #11 there is one Jew in Gaza.
Aaron ,   SF, USA   (04.30.09)
His name is Gilad.
25. #13 Because we are indigineous and we whooped their ass?
Aaron ,   SF, USA   (04.30.09)
A) There is a vast amount of historical/archaeological evidence that the Jews are indigenous to the land of Judea/Palestine/Israel. If the Native Americans took back the U.S.A. by force, could you blame them? B) We accepted every compromise. They chose to go to war. We won, they lost. Arab Palestinians = sore losers of the world.
26. claybricks
Lisa   (04.30.09)
good for him- people have been using clay breaks for thousands of years- this man is using his brains instead of waiting for hand outs- you have to give him credit. If the Palestinians had some initiative and gumption they would be much farther ahead without expecting help from thugs like Hamas who are cheating them out of aid, money and - lives.
27. #3
Wanda ,   Montreal   (04.30.09)
If Israel were to adhere to the same terms, I'm sure agreements of peace would make traction. Right now, hypocrisy abound.
28. #13 - Edithann - Hamas has already admitted to such
William ,   Israel   (05.01.09)
What makes you believe that Pals owned the land in today's Israel? What facts have you been shown that aren't tied to some propaganda ploy to create this fake population who claim a 3000 year legacy? Jews came for decades before 1948 and purchased land - for which we still have deeds in the Israel Museum in Jerusalem. Land censuses show during late 1910s that only 5% of land was privately owned, while the rest was owned by Turk Sultans. British records show a massive influx of Arabs through illegal immigrations in the 1930s which they felt powerless to stop. After 2005 withdraw from Gaza, Haniyeh went on record laughing at Israel stating that Hamas got Jews to leave the Jewish land at Gush Katif. With all these facts - how can you claim anything except that Arabs are the original colonialists?
29. #27 - Wanda - Do you even read the peace accords?
William ,   Israel   (05.01.09)
Israel acknowledged the Pals as a people, Pals have not reciprocated. They still deny Jews as a nation. Israel signed the Oslo Accords for peace. Arafat claimed he did the same only to be caught admitting it was to gain a foothold to destroy Israel. Which Israel leader made the same claim against Pals? None. Pals deny the right of Israel to exist as a Jewish State, yet they declared their future State will be Jew-Free (a very racist, Apartheid act). Almost ALL movements inside Israel and the PA territories were conceived and run by Jews, fighting for rights of Pals. No such group exists among the Pals calling for the rights of Jews to be respected. The situation is so clear - Arab hubris and ego have created the quagmire for which they continue to blame the Jews....it's just convenient.
30. 13
zionist forever   (05.01.09)
This isn't some sort of noble act of deffiance against the evil zionist enemy. The simple and less romantic fact is their homes were destroyed because of a situation their terrorist leaders forced Israel into The concrete isn't getting through to rebuild so its either live in a tempory shelter or build a new home using clay. Nobody is taking their homes and lands, you notice Israel is staying well away from that hell hole Gaza its not taking their land and giving it to jews. No romantic acts of fighting to the bitter end here.
