1. What Did You Expect?
Reuven Brauner ,   Raanana, Israel   (05.20.09)
The Israeli High Court is just plain anti-Orthodox. The Orthodox can never get a fair trial therein. The Israeli High Court inevitably rules against the Orthodox. That is a given.
2. So is it OK to convert people who eat cheeseburgers, don't
Bunnie Meyer ,   Los Angeles, CA USA   (05.20.09)
keep Shabbos? It would seem reasonable that a base of halacha is established. No one will be perfect, certainly not even frum born Jews, but without a standard what makes you Jewish, just a dunk in the pool?
3. Let who ever wants join the club
Gali ,   Tel Aviv   (05.20.09)
I know some converts via this religious movement and they are more sincere jews than me or my family who love cheese burgers and bacon on Friday night.. and I am no less a Jew than an Ortho.. We complain when people say bad things, we complain when people dont like us and we complain when people want to join us, grow up!
4. Not EVEN the dunk, Bunnie. They say"if you want to, you are"
L ,   Israel   (05.20.09)
Just wish it or get the warm and fuzzies over bagels or matza ball soup and *poof* you're Jewish. (scary, huh?)
5. So y'mean those Messianic "Jews"(Xtians in disguise)can also
(05.20.09)
count on funding for their "conversion" schools to teach Jews to embrace Jesus but still under the supposed banner of Judaism? Jews for Jesus (they CALL themselves Jews even if the fundamental belief is the antithesis)? How far does inclusion go?
6. Since the State doesn't "have to support conversion schools"
(05.20.09)
I hope it discontinues supporting ANY rather than including these BS versions of "Judaism" that will have all of Israel slowly intermarrying their way to oblivion (ch'v'sh).
7. Funding for Non-Orthodox Conversions
Bruria ,   Haifa   (05.20.09)
Maybe you should have a look at at some of the xtian sites--they are jumping for joy because now they have an "in". In their minds they can convert and still bow to yashka. If our government doesn't give our country to the PA the xtians will soon have control--either way, Jews are in a lot of trouble once again...
8. to #1 y should orthodox have monopoly
ghostq   (05.20.09)
on jewish religion in Israel, again lack of tolerance is amazing, the conditions for Reform conversion should be legislated as well.
9. Response to #5
Aharon   (05.20.09)
Might I suggest you bother to educate yourself about Judaism. "Messianic Jews" are Christians. Reform Jews are JEWS. Orthodoxy is ONE stream within the Jewish people which is diverse and consists of MILLIONS of JEWS who do not subscribe to the Orthodox world view. Good call Israel!
10. Blindness!persistent blindness!
Keren ,   Israel-SP   (05.20.09)
Before the second Temple was destroyed and the great Diaspora of Jews started,"the supreme court"of those times applied the same policy:convert everybody. The result we know already. The Supreme Court of Israel is at the service of Blindness and Insanity, and if people do not wake up quickly, one does not need to be a genius to foresee the near future of Israel and of Jews.
11. Aharon #9 You "might" suggest it.
(05.20.09)
You "might" also not be so snooty and presumptuous. I'm very well versed in Judaism. I'm also well versed in world religions. I know that apparently people who would call themselves Jewish, who even ARE Jewish are practicing things not remotely resembling the basic tenets of Judaism, that are even in opposition to the definitions of Judaism and calling it a "branch" of Judaism. There are not only Xtian missionaries, but also ACTUAL JEWS among messianic "Jews" (that is their goal: to "convert" real Jews to their "brand" (which, of course, we all know is not really Judaism at all. It is merely Xtianity with some placating tokens of warm fuzzy Jewish symbolism. Much like a Reform function's bagel with shrimp-pate). Now tell me: is there a vast difference between two Jews, one who eats pork and shrimp at a "temple" function and one who declares that Jesus is the impending messiah (2nd time's a charm!)? ...or are they both fundamentally changing the basic understandings of the definition of Judaism to suit themselves. ...and whining about "inclusion" under the banner of classic Judaism. How "progressive" are you?
12. reform "judaism" is NOT Judaism
Orthodox   (05.20.09)
Messianic Jews are NOT Jews. And guess what?? Reform Jews are NOT Jews either. They are Jews by blood, but they have abandoned JUDAISM. Reform "judaism" is no more Jewish than Messianic "judaism". You might think we include you, but we don't . You need to repent your sins, and come back to the only authentic Judaism there ever was: Judaism ("orthodox"). And by the way, your "converts" are all goyim.

mike ,   israel (formerly usa   (05.20.09)
i'd like to look at one of those supposed sites you are talking about to see what you are talking about. show links, if you can.
15. #12 "orthodox"
Sefardi ,   Canada   (05.20.09)
1/ Halakha says a Jew stays a Jew FOREVER... whatever his beliefs and practice can be. 2/ Halakha says lashon is a very grave sin Please don't ashame religious Jews by calling yourself "orthodox".
16. reform conversion is not a form of conversion
yoni   (05.21.09)
There is no conversion process in reform judaism. It is not a process of conversion whatever it is. If I decide that to convert to Judaism you have to stand on your head for six hours every wednesday does the state have to fund me as well???
17. Bad solution to orthodox's problem
Josh ,   San Jose, USA   (05.21.09)
I may not be orthodox but I was more than happy to let their rabbis set the conversion standards. Taking away their monopoly on the process opens up a whole can of worms (messianic "Jews", fraudulent conversions, etc). Unfortunately, the constant political bickering among the various orthodox and Heradi sects was threatening Israel's existence as a Jewish state. Converts were put through a Kafkaesque process. Many have had their conversions annulled 10-20 years after the fact. Thousands of good Israeli citizens are being prevented from becoming Jews. Unless the orthodox religious establishment can clean up its act, this imperfect solution is going to have to do. Maybe this will inspire them to quit bickering and do what's right for the Jewish people.
18. The high court judges are out of their minds???
Elianna ,   Jerusalem   (05.21.09)
the courts will not be happy until they completely split the Jewish people apart. I would like to see any secular court in Rome try to determine who can make conversions to Catholic faith. and give legitimacy to those who do not even obey the laws of the Catholic religion. and demand that they are funded.
19. #1 Reuven obviously hasnt heard of freedom of choice
Avi ,   Rannana   (05.21.09)
You see the thing is, we are living in a democratic country. Israel is a democratic state that recognises all jews from all countries of origin and all levels of religious observnce on not. It not up to a fanatical minority to dictate the the rest of us how to run our lives. So therefore if money is to be awarded to one sector of religion it should be equally awarded to all sectors. Once again the ultra orthadox adopt the arrogant position "i am hollier than thou" Thanks Reuben but we still have a choice .
20. Standard: Logical Halakhah Essential, Khareidi Calamity
Paqid Yirmeyahu ,   Ra'anana, Israel   (05.21.09)
21. Employee # 20 is calamity # 1
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (05.21.09)
A goy who talks about halachah , that's what you are .
22. Elianna , what are you comparing ?
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (05.21.09)
In Rome a conversion has'nt such an influence on someone's life as it has here .
23. 21 ha
mike ,   israel (formerly usa   (05.21.09)
that was actually pretty funny.
24. 20 more like calamity for atheists, Christians & homos!
(05.21.09)
25. #3 Gali
David ,   USA, exile   (05.24.09)
Torah says nothing about eating cheeseburgers. It says "don't boil a kid in its mothers milk." It does say however, that swine is an abomination. You see Gali, G-d makes the rules, not the rabbis. They don't like cheeseburgers, then fine, don't eat them, but don't add to or take away from Words of Torah. They are right about not eating pork, they are wrong about not eating cheeseburgers.
26. #9 Aharon
David ,   USA, exile   (05.24.09)
Maybe you should educate yourself. Messianic Jews are Jews who know who their Moshiach is, Messianic goy are Torah observant goy who know who their Moshiach is. All are grafted into the Olive Tree of Yisrael. You can believe the truth or believe the rabbis. Your choice but don't label everyone by your bigoted definitions.
27. #11
David ,   USA, exile   (05.24.09)
I happen to be Messianic and what you and the rabbis call classic Judaism is following rules made up by men who call themselves rabbi. That form I nor any other Messianic wants any part of. We are not begging to be part of your misguided form of Judaism. We only wish to keep Torah and serve our Moshiach. If that gives you heartburn, so be it. We long for the day when all people will know the truth.
28. David , NOT in exile 25
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (05.26.09)
Only a TRUE Jew living in your country can be in exile . A TRUE Jew does NOT believe in your jesus as a messias , only christians do it . A TRUE Jew is still awaiting the Meschiach . The Torah says : don't boil a kid ....." By continuing your "logic" if a farmer has two cows , one giving him a calf , the other milk , he may boil this calf in the milk from the second cow , she WAS NOT his mother . That's why our great sages and Rabbanim added their comments and rules .
29. Reform and Conservatives are the real answer!!!!!
