1. bar ilan -academia
professor naveh is 100 % rught . we should have nothing to be afraid of . but when a certain segment is taught in only black and white -ie.absolutes. and no grey areas for thinking independantly this is the unfortunate sequences.70 faces of torah went by the wayside. and the fundamentalists areso unsure of their opinion they call all else apikorus.

3. Independent thought
is exactly what the religious fear. In their POV, one must accept whatever their particular rabbi says as if his words were written in the Luach. This is why there are more sects than stars in the sky. Each with a different rabbi, each with a specific approach, none with Torah Judaism; rather all with a form of rebbinic Judaism and a hatred of all who refuse to accept whatever it is they call Orthodoxy. Educated Jews frighten those rabbis. They recognize just what those rabbis are trying to accomplish and it isn't true Judaism.

7. bar ilan university
even according kaveh's views, bar ilan is not a relgious university. it is a jewish heritage university. it teaches this to all students and respects the holidays, fast days, etc. but how can it be religious - because of the students? most are not? the academic staff? i wonder if here also most are not? so what makes it religious. furthemore, orthodox young men and women to study for academic degrees, just not at bar ilan. next door in kiryat ono is a college geared to ultra orthodox men and women. now this may be called a religious college, for the men and women study on separate days, thus having separate classes. such students flock to this type of institution. i should add that also religious zionists who have graduated the hesder program go to such colleges for they are more conducive to a religious atmosphere than bar ilan, that has no separate classes, no dress code for women, no mehadrin resteraunts on campus. so where should a hesder or chareidi go - to those places who cater to his need. and they get their law degrees and become accountants. shabbat shalomo
