1. You folks should listen to what Gretchen Peters has to say
Ypip ,   Canada   (05.24.09)
over the situation with these guys, its quite revealing.
2. obviously
Ilana   (05.24.09)
and just as obvious is the claim about "innocent civilians" Arabs tend to exaggerate to get public opinion to be in their favour. Honesty is always the best poicy-at least for the moral.
3. Sounds good to me
Frankie Abulafia ,   Jerusalem   (05.24.09)
Even though anything touched by Olmert stinks of corruption, I'll accept those claims. They basically mirror my own independent study that was done just after the war, which found that I don't really care about the difference between Hamas military personnel and their police officers. They can all rot in jehinum for all I'm concerned.
4. photo: is that the trade mark, Israel got from the US?
observer   (05.24.09)
but, I thought you said the terrorists were fighting in civilian clothes.
5. the real issue
Fair   (05.24.09)
The issue is not really about the young men killed in the bombings of Gaza police stations, because at the international level Hamas is considered a terrorist group and its police/security forces are at best viewed with suspicion. The real issue is the killing of 300 children, more than 120 women and many others who were undoubtedly civilians.
6. #4-Your posts are less entertaining than your 'name'.
Ypip ,   Canada   (05.24.09)
7. Number 4 -Just a thought.
Elihu ,   Efrat   (05.24.09)
The photo appears to be from the "police" . graduation. There, uniforms were worn. However, during the fighting in Gaza, many Hamas fighters attacked, while wearing civilian clothes..
8. The real issue is that you called yourself 'Fair'
Ypip ,   Canada   (05.24.09)
While attempting to dodge the main issue of how organizations like the hamas operate. Your an idiot.
9. #5 Not fair
PW ,   Virginia USA   (05.24.09)
Sorry for your disproportionate use of facts...When a military force places itself among civilians that force is responsible for any deaths or injuries that happen so i suggest that you direct your ire at Hamas for the civilian dead... Also many under 18 year olds fought and supported Hamas operation during the battle in gaza...so that number is inflated also...typical of your mind set you never ask the question why?
10. sensitive issue for the Israelis
observer   (05.24.09)
Israel is very careful and sensitive when it comes to documenting and reporting its soldiers killed or missing in action. When Eilat warship sank, they didn't exposed their casualty which mounted to 60+ although they had just won the 6 days war. Guess how many Israel lost in Gaza?
11. casualty-sensitive Israelis & Mass Casualty 73
observer   (05.24.09)
Alarming rumors of heavy Israeli casualties were circulating in Israel, which the Israeli government did nothing to allay until the fourteenth. Then it issued its first casualty figure, admitting to 656 dead so far, which hardly stemmed the mounting anxiety within the country, especially as no figures of wounded were given. This figure obviously did not include thecasualties of the battles of the fourteenth. Israel suffered three times as many casualties in 3 weeks of fighting as the United States did during almost a decade of fighting in Vietnam. The 1973 war produced unprecedented numbers of soldiers suffering from combat shock and other psychiatric problems. The ratio of psychiatric cases was as high as 23.1 percent of all non fatal cases.
12. THIS IS REALLY SILLY PROPAGANDA
Aaron Miller ,   Chicago USE   (05.24.09)
It's no surprise that most of the police were members of Hamas. You designate Hamas a "terrorist" organization and of course you then call all members "terrorists." This is so childish.
13. #12 - "Silly propaganda"
Arie ,   BaGolan   (05.25.09)
But having the US declare the taliban and al qaeda terrorists, then bombing their 'safe-houses' which are invariably secured by women and children as human shields is a different matter since it is ok for the US military to defend its people and mission, but not the Israelis. As your commander, Gen Petreus stated, he "REFUSES" to have the US military fight "with one hand tied behind its back because of the actions of terrorists using women and children as human shields!" Typical American LEFTIST double standard http://www.reuters.com/article/alQaeda/idUSTRE5491F920090510
14. of course they were terrorists
tom ,   toronto, canada   (05.25.09)
but in the propaganda war to delegitimize israel, the damage has already been done. the exaggerated arab claims have been page one news, whereas the careful israeli investigation and documented rebuttal, coming four moths later, will make page 30, if that. israel must learn how to play the media game better, and much harder.
15. #5 - Yes, that is a very real issue
William ,   Israel   (05.25.09)
And as soon as the UN and other Intl bodies begin the war crimes investigation and tribunal of Hamas and their use of civilian homes, mosques, and schools to cover tunnels and weapons caches, the sooner we'll get an answer to that very question of yours. Videos and testimony abound regarding Hamas' action during the war, including locking one family inside their home and booby trapping it for IDF soldiers, using school kids as human shields as they ran through the streets, and using the basement of a hospital as their command center - a grave violation of all intl laws and is a WAR CRIME! On the issue of the numbers - 300 children and 120 women, these numbers are still not confirmed independently and rose as high as 790 total under Hamas reports. RAI (Italian newspaper) hotly disputes the numbers you claim, making them lower - together with men civilians total <30% of casualties.
16. #11 - What's your point?
William ,   Israel   (05.25.09)
Are you trying to use a past precedent of over 35 years ago to prove a point today? Seems a bit of a stretch...even for you. So I assume your claim is there are so many more IDF casualties from Gaza than known. Well this does reflect the Hamas comments that they lost hardly any men while they claimed Israel lost hundreds. But don't go saying that around Israel, apparently the entire govt, medical establishment and even individual families are pretty committed to the "lie"
17. "obvious" vs. carefully researched
Zvi   (05.25.09)
This report was a good idea. It's not enough for the truth to be "obvious" when there are a bunch of terrorist sympathizers creating reports to the contrary based on bogus data. Having a report like this is important as a part of the historical record.
18. That's my boy Ari
Jeffrey ,   Boston   (05.25.09)
The real American tragedy is the 80% approval rating for Obama among American Jews. I used to think Jews stood up for one another until I observed the sentiments of leftist American Jews.
19. #12.."Aaron Miller" ??... A.KA.. REALLY SILLY ABDUL !
ABRAHAM ben JACOB ,   CANADA   (05.25.09)
#12 .. ABDUL MILLER.... YOU CAN HAVE YOUR OPINION. BUT LET OTHERS MAKE UP THEIR OWN MINDS. YNET POSTS ARE MOSTLY WELL WRITTEN AND THOUGHT OUT COMMENTS. YOUR YNET POST IS THE CHILDISH ONE ABDUL MILLER, AS IT ONLY "ACCUSES" OTHERS OF BEING WRONG........ ABDUL MILLER ACCUSES OTHERS OF BEING WRONG SIMPLY BEACUSE THEY DON'T AGREE WITH HIS SLANTED VIEWS. NOW, THAT'S SILLY AND CHILDISH !!
20. observer=propaganda for those terrorist still alive
(05.25.09)
21. to #4 they were in civilian clothes
ghostq   (05.25.09)
the pics actually taken from palestinian propeganda site. you do the math. if you know how to.
22. Another Report, too late
Mike ,   Rehovot,Israel   (05.25.09)
The defense establishment obviously had the intel to know when and where this "graduation" ceremony was being held. That it was struck, explains they knew its importance. Why did Olmert need to hire Magnum, P.I. to find this out?! He was Prime Minister!
23. 16,do u mean footage of rockets from school was also ancient
observer   (05.25.09)
24. #6,7,20,21 irrelevant photo
observer   (05.25.09)
on the poster in Arabic: qassam field leader , artillery unit, Hasan Mohammad Harb, martyred while launching grad rockets. Now, the report would be: erratum: innocent victim = terror victim, after Ministry of Truth instruction. Really the photo is relevant to how the media shapes your opinion.
25. observer
BarB   (05.26.09)
It is best you observe and not react. We NEVER quite understand any point you ever make. I can not figure out what you mean-ever-just a bunch of high falluting empty words. You are incomrehensible and lose any message you try to convey. I don't even know whose side you are on!!lol.
