Amar launches battle against reform conversions     Kobi Nahshoni
1. MK Uri Orbach Stated It Well
I agree: "It's no secret that the religious-Orthodox world is divided on conversions – what is the Halacha and how should non-Jews be treated. It's complicated, but there's no argument that what the Reform Movement is doing is not Halacha." Paqid Yirmeyahu The Netzarim, Ra'anana, Israel Israeli Torah Jew (Teimani Baladi Dardai) Advocate for Logic as Halakhic Authority Welcoming Jews & non-Jews www.netzarim.co.il

2. Reforms seek to split Am Israel in two

3. rabbi defends halachic conversions
get the supreme court out of it [and out of national defense too]! the problem will be solved eventually because religious have more children..the courts should stick to questions of property and crime and limiting big government abuses
moron ,   galut   (05.25.09)
4. Reform vs. Destroy-form
Where is the reform movement leading the Jews to? They are accumulating trash people from all over the world, approving their conversions, & making "Rabbits", excuse me I meant "Rabbis" out of them. Those Kushim, those Shvartzim, HaShiksot, will be the religious leaders of our grandchildren! Now a Reform Center made Alysa Stanton a Rabbi. Tomorrow, Alysa Stanton herself will make Hugo Chafez a rabbi. In turn, Rabbi Chavez will make Nijad a Rabbi. You, the Reformists..Stop destroying the Jews! I think sometimes about the Neturei Karta & how they are harrassed...How better are they when compared to the Reform activists.
Madai ,   MI / USA   (05.25.09)
5. get over yourselves self rightous orthodox
the Reform should have the full right to convert people to judaism (y would anyone will want to do that, god knows)your lack of tolerance is amazing, further than that you still live in the biblical terms, mmm I guess electricity is something that wasn't part of the bible. you might end using Flintstones vehicles.
ghostq   (05.25.09)
6. "Rabbi" Kariv or the Religious Action Center of Reform
is no Rabbi at all. This is not about religion, it's about being a litigious nudnik. This is the same nudnik who brought Rabbi Kanievsky to court for advising his congregants to be wary of hiring Arab workers (this around the time of the bulldozer attacks and the Arab air conditioning repairman who stabbed many passersby on their way to shul in Kiryat Sefer). This "Rabbi" Kariv accused Rabbi Kanievsky of "incitement" against Arabs. He's an idiot and an instigator.

7. The High Court ruled that the State has to fund Reform
Conversion institutions IF (IF!) they are funding ANY conversion institutions. They do not have to fund ANY conversion institutions at all (it's all or none, according to this law). If this move to put conversions in the Chief Rabbinate's court fails, I would suggest they move to desist from all funding for ANY whatsoever.
(05.25.09)
8. 1 paqid - you should be very worried about this
your conversion would very well come into question, seeing how your teachings are considered deviant in the eyes of rabbis. prove me wrong by listing current prominent rabbis who endorse your teachings. still waiting...
mike ,   israel (formerly usa   (05.25.09)
9. 8 Will U Xns EVER stop arrogant intrusions n Jewish affairs?
(05.25.09)
10. ooops there goes his income
Sure he is opposed as this will cut his ability to blackmail everyone and also is income !
Avi ,   Israel   (05.25.09)
11. who needs hezbo, hamas, we have the rabbis
The Govt. causing a national rift?.What a joke. YOU have created the 2 people separated from one another.----- with your separate laws, separate behavior, separate sexes, separate buses, separate shopping, separate synagogues, separate beaches, separate sidewalk, and more. And now you want FULL control of funding conversions, so YOU can control the masses. We might as well eliminate the Govt.
Arthur   (05.25.09)
12. are sephardi rabbis Jewish?
In May 2005 Amar publicly accepted the claims of the Indian Bnei Menashe as one of the Lost Tribes of Israel. He sent a Bet Din to India in September to begin the conversion process; he already had a big deal of thousands converts. former Sephardi Chief Rabbi Ovadia Yosef was born Abdullah (slave of Allah). I love those rabbis; immersion for women, symbolic circumcision for men; enjoy it.

13. On Paqid's comment and On the Article
The meeting was to address the reform issue. It had nothing to do with "messianic" movement. Try again. As for the Reform, why not? If in America the community is able to coexist peacably and even work together, why shouldn't it happen in Israel as well. The Rabinnate should be working to unite the community-not to further divide it.

14. Cowardly # 9
This Mike , even if he is'nt Jewish , can tell another non Jew , this paqid , a self proclaimed convert , that he has to worry . Mike at least is HONEST , contrary to this paqid , by letting know that he is'nt Jewish .
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (05.25.09)
15. 9 - how is talking about paqid intruding in jewish affairs?
and it's not arrogant because i humbly request paqid to put his money where his mouth is by proving to the world he is legit.
mike ,   israel (formerly usa   (05.25.09)

17. #12 Definitely more Jewish than...
Ashkenazi Rabbis who dress like 16th Century Poles and adopted Eastern European pronunciation for their "Hebrew"...
(05.26.09)
18. 15 That's business of Orthodox rabbis not u or atheist
(05.26.09)
19. A two people state - ha ha
As if there is not already a rift between the orthdox and ever other branch and group of Jewish people and converts. Converts are treated as second class and third class. Battered berated separated and alone. "For you were Gerim in Mtzriam" "You shall love the convert" is a law and mitzah. When you read from the book of Ruth, maybe you should listen to the easy with which she is allowed to follow Torah and G-d. It is not like converstion ceremonies teach either. Give up the magic and paganism? Trust a carved plaque for protection against curses or G-d? Shmah! Google Images search Jainism and see the origins and percieve Baalam's joy.
Josh   (05.26.09)
20. #14 When will you admit it?
Anon   (05.26.09)
21. I have a better conversion - do they fund me?
I think all who would like to become Jewish should watch fiddler on the roof and eat gefilte fish. This is the best way and easiest to make lots of Jews! Does the supreme courts ruling mean the government funds my new project???
yoni ,   jerusalem   (05.26.09)
22. 18 - paqid don't hide
we know this is you. and you should stop avoiding the question about your legitimacy. logically speaking, you avoid it because you CAN'T answer. hence, you are a fraud.
mike ,   israel (formerly usa   (05.26.09)
23. Yoni , 21 .
That's OK to become an Ashkenaze Jew , but if someone prefers the north African Jewish beauties ?
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (05.26.09)
24. 22 typical Christian
(05.26.09)
25. 20 , also this FAKE Jew called employee
AKA paqid . This self proclaimed convert without any Jewish connrexion . This Van ....should return to the church where he belongs and not pollute the Jewish people .
(05.26.09)
26. Maybe this Anon is this church goer josh ?
But he and paqid are the same : 100 % non Jews and 100 % FAKE Jews . One more hatefull as the second . One more deceiving as the other one . I forgot my name in another TB , if published .
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (05.26.09)
27. 24 - is bigotry really necessary?
mike ,   israel (formerly usa   (05.26.09)
28. Rabbi Amar's rejection for Reform
Don't shut the door to reform Jews, especially since 90% of Israelis happen to be Reform Jews. In all due respect to Rabbi Amar, he forgot the history of the Sefardim and how blended the communities were in their origin. After all the Golden Age of Spain, had the most elaborate literature and poetry that reflected a people. It seems to me, that his hard stand negates the culture he comes from. In all due respect to him, and his followers, they are practicing and imposing laws, that do not reflect the Sefardic spirit or true heritage. Why do so many Israelis remain non religious or observant and flee to Europe for marriages, divorces, etc. Is that not reflective of a problem at home? A home that doesn't listen to their needs or makes adjustments to a modern world. Orthodoxy does not in anyway have to end, but reformation must also enter and have a voice. This voice represents a majority, which is a very high group. If Israelis follow US in so many ways, right or wrong, then the change that has been made in the last few months, in the US with the election of the new government, certainly must spill abroad. Liberal views do have their strong followers, and their voices must be heard and accounted. Israel wants to remain a Jewish nation for all, liberals, reforms, atheists, orthodox, Sephardic, Ashkenazi, and has to remain united in this aspect rather than divided. The Torah is part of everyone's culture, whether interpreted religiously or literally.
Sarah Rousso Lascar ,   Houston, TX   (05.26.09)
29. Sarah Rousso . 90 % ?
Of Israelis reform ? Later on you write : why do so many Israelis remain non religious or observant .... You are completely wrong , there are much more seculars than reform Israelis .
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (05.26.09)
30. Religious control of conversions
It's all about money! Whom-so-ever contols the pipeline has control of money and power. Religion has little to do with this issue in Israel today.
