2. Haredi Bus
OK--now I am confused. I see the Super-bus every day and it is not Egged! I was told that it is a separate line sponsored by Haredi donors. Yes, Egged stopped running some of those routes but if nobody is on their bus, that is just good business. Can somebody please clarify this?
Also, I know many, many Haredi people, and ms. Dorner should know that the overwhelming majority of them want segregation. So, if they provide their own bus, why not.? Get a life Ms. Dorner and leave off trying to butt into lives you know nothing about.

3. Welcome to haredi-stan
Why not lets go the whole way, how about seperate planes?
Will they now try to create seperate buses in Tel Aviv as well?
If these "men "cant sit on a bus next to a woman without having "evil sexual thoughts" i would suggest they get phsicatric help.

4. Many international cities have women only busses and subways
In Japan, Mexico and Brazil it is becoming more common to separate men and women on busses and subways. Separation of the sexes may not be for eveyone but it does not offend freedom or secular democracy.

6. 3 Avi, it's about temptation.
It's about not being tempted, avoiding temptation. How difficult is that to understand.
And you should stop thinking that excessive freedom and disregard and respect for religious traditions is something good. It isn't.
Haradi Stan, whats that about ? You could well argue that what we have is actually Secular Stan with the Chief Justice the equivilant of a secular Gadol and held in low esteem my many.

7. Besalel , again distorting
In Mexice city , three times Israel's population , busses are overcrowded , and men are "attacking" women by touching them where they can . Not the case here . The others you cite , if it's true , have surely the same problems .

8. Ms Dorner's initiative smacks of antisemitism
That's none of her business to interfere in such matters. A certain group of people wants to ride on buses with sex separation. As far as I know, all such bus lines are duplicated by regular (circular) lines. Stop attacking the religious Jews!

Get a grip man. It's a long line from sitting next to someone on a bus to the type of debauchery that goes on in Vegas. I ride a crowded NYC subway every day to work, and despite being packed in like sardines, I have managed to keep it to myself the entire time. It's not normal to have all this separation The joke we make here is, having men and women in the same place could lead to mixed dancing. Yeesh!.

12. No real choice
Segregated bus routes to the best of my knowledge are NOT required by the "majority" of the religiously observant public. This segregation is partly a political demonstration of ultra-orthodox power - and while we are about it, why cant the women sit in the front not the back? Shlepping down to the back loaded with small children, parcels etc. and often with a pregnant tum is not kind or fair to women. If some of the Haredified routes had an alternative normal bus service at least there would be a choice, and no public anger because a sector of the public is forcing its habits on another sector.

13. does she ride the busses at all?
what's it to ya? She misses the whole point. It doesn't have to do with wh is better than the other, like the blacks and the whites. It has to do with modesty and her behavior falls far short of the Jewish view.

15. #12 That's Horrible
Making women, who as you say, have children, shopping bags, and who are pregnant sit in the back of the bus, shows total disrespect of women by Haredi men.
This claim of modesty is also nonsense. If Haredi men can't behave themselves, they can walk. e

21. Nos. 12 and 14
Because, when the chareidim that wanted separate seating tried to purchase their own buses and run their own line tried it(even with free buses) they ran into problems from the government and Egged over violations of Egged'\s monopoly. The only way to obtain the type of services they want is to persuade Egged to accomodate them. So that is what they are doing. They are trying to take care of their needs, not take anything away from you.

23. this is not Judaism, it is not being religious
it is completely sick. these people that want segregated busses are evil and sick in the head. and believe me, i know. i am religious and i live in Jerusalem. these people are violent, and even though halacha says you are not allowed to touch a woman, they have no problem slapping one if they don't get their way. these extremists need to be taken down.

25. this is not segragation but seperation!!!
Comparing the willful segregation of charedim riding the bus to the imposed segregation of the black riding the bus in America is a false one.
Its quite instructive to see a secular judge influenced so strongly by this.
Instead of being neutral and impartial she has gone over the edge.
Anyone who is bothered by segregation on the charedi bus line has viable alternatives.
It is small minded to claim that charedim should not be able to ride according to their customs because it invokes memories of the racial segregation that took place in America.
The shallowness of this argument is quite overwhelming especially from a former judge.
Handicapped individuals have their own bathrooms, parking spots and water fountains. Oh my this reminds me of segregation in the 1950’s in the US. i demand an end to this insulting practice and hope to see many non-handicapped people fight back by using these set-aside toilets, parking spots and water fountains.

Where in the USA have found segregated bus lines based on gender?
Yes, the blacks in America suffered that humiliation for many years in the south. That is now history!!!
As a former resident of NYC, I know that you living in Kew Gardens have never faced that situation.

shame on them for being so blinded by hatred
shame on us for giving such people a venue

The haredim have sufficient political clout in Israel today, just as others have succeeded in doing, to break Egged's monopoly. Every sherut minibus uses Egged bus stops to pick up passengers. It is not the same Egged of Mapai days.
