1. No Danny. Obama is wrong.
Yehuda ,   Hoilit. Israel   (06.02.09)
And in a profound way so are you.
2. Rothschild's NETACS clients aren't his interest?
Ilan ,   Ariel   (06.02.09)
Rothschild wears two black hats: one is that he is an adviser to the far left Israel Policy Forum and secondly his firm NETACS provides VIP services and security consulting to 'moderate' Arab and PA clients. So his enthusiasm for Obama's statements only coincidentally goes with his business dealtings?
3. Danny, please stop B.Essing!!!
Abe   (06.02.09)
The settlers are the vanguard of Jewish greatness. One day there will be over 100,000 settlers from Golan to Hebron and again in Gaza. Mark my words.
4. axiomatic?
Shimon ,   Cincinnati, USA   (06.02.09)
What's axiomatic is that we negotiated with those who agreed to negotiate with us. Don't try to rewrite history. Next: Only a comprehensive solution will work negotiating with everyone at the same time. I don't think so. There are too many of them, they hold too much wealth, and the west is degenerate: It will do anything to keep the oil flowing. We could count less. Now the USA is singing Kumbaya, and "We have so much in common". Bullshit. The only thing I have in common with them is that I need O2, food and water. Obama et al forget that the Arabs reject our right to exist as a country. He also forgets that no matter what speech he gives, hot air rises and dissipates. Words aren't going to change the mentality inculcated during more than a century.
5. in the name of 'peace and security?!!
MC ,   UK   (06.02.09)
Another delluded individual! and he's for 'peace and security' Why do Isaelis need to turn everything against themselves? Siding with the enemy is an illness. Allowing Obama to dictate policy to Israel and believing we can really make peace with those who openly want to destroy us is dellisional. We've had 60 years to see that. If Israel is a real democracy and wants to hold on to it's sovereignty it must stop this mad blindness and really take care of the nation's 'peace and security. That should be the priority!
6. This is a great analysis. . .
Chanya ,   Israel   (06.02.09)
This is a great analysis, except for one small detail. The analysis applies very well to a fantasy world where the history of the past 60 years and beyond is very different from what actually happened and where Palestinians and the larger Arab world are very different from what they actually are. As convenient and comforting as this fantasy world is, sadly, it is not the reality on the ground. And sadly, embracing this kind of fantasy world will only hurt Israel since the cruel reality will unfortunatley not yield simply because some Israelis want to hold onto their fantasies.
7. Rotschild right about one thing
Israel Israeli ,   Tel Aviv   (06.02.09)
Rotschild is 100% correct that it was a mistake for Israel to deal with the various Arab groups separately. Israel signed many agreements: Camp David with Egypt, retreat from Lebanon, Jordanian "peace treaty", "Oslo I", "Oslo II" and many others, all which included Israeli concessions for nothing in return. Israel is now weaker than ever, the US has decided to abandon Israel for the Saudi apartheid regime and it is acceptable to discuss whether the moral solution is to exterminate the Jews to establish a new Arab state. Basically, Rotschild admits that the people called "extreme Right" have been correct the whole time: Israel should have made no concessions without a comprehensive agreement. Now, Israel should correct this mistake and stop all negotiations.
8. No, Obama is left
Israeli ,   Israel   (06.02.09)
.. and as it happens to left is living in dreamland. It is surprising, Mr. Rothschild how do you manage to write so long text without having even single statement correct: “Base for stability” in region is regional peace. OK. Peace is stability – correct; stability is necessary peace – not correct; at least not necessary peace agreement. Israel has peace and stability with Syria without peace agreement. Cold war stability was based more on balance of fear than on formal agreements. “Israel was wrong when it attempted to reach a solution via separate negotiations with the Palestinians, the Syrians, and the Lebanese”…. As if regional peace is just Israel versus Arab countries in the region. What about other regional conflicts? How the way Israel is working on peace agreements with Arab neighbors helps to achieve peace between Iran and Arab world? Should we wait until all regional problems are solved (probably forever) before having our "local" peace and stability? Etc., etc. Paying price of inaction. This is the best of all. Till now we have paid price for action: Oslo that brought corrupted PLO regime on Palestinians and terror to Israelis. Disengagement that brought Hamas to Gaza and rockets to south Israel. Etc., etc. Arab League initiative for peace with Israel … it was done based on an understanding that for the first time they have more to gain than to lose from a deal with us … But is there any good for Israel. It simply means: we will live in peace with you when you are dead (it is common understanding that the right of return declared in initiative is the end for the state of Israel, but to make destruction easier we should also return to 67 borders …). The latest attempt to make it a bit more acceptable for Israel failed. What now? …etc., etc.
9. danny is right
moshe   (06.02.09)
Sorry that others disagree, but many of us also agree with Obama.
10. General Rothschild statement
Chance ,   Liverpool, NY, USA   (06.02.09)
Well said. People like you should represent Israel to solve the Middle East problems.
11. Obama only 1/2 right
JPS ,   Efrat   (06.02.09)
Missing from Obama's rhetoric is any mention of the Palestinian mess. Fatah has a shaky rule in the west bank, and Hamas has a solid rule in Gaza. Hamas says publicly that they want to overthrow Fatah in the west bank. Hamas also says, repeatedly and clearly, that they do not want peace with Israel, and that they reject the entire notion of peace talks. Obama, unfortunately, has been totally silent on these show-stoppers. For those not familiar with the term, "show-stopper" in the high tech world means a bug or problem that renders the product unfit for delivery to the customer. Unless we hear some clear direction from Obama on the Palestinian problems, the Americans will be revealed as having fallen victim to the propaganda campaign in which the "settlements" are the one and only problem. The middle east, of course, is much more complex than that and we await the details of Obama's policies towards the Pals. They better be forthcoming pretty quick if the Americans are going to be respected as honest brokers.
12. Danny , The i-d-i-o-t
isaac ,   brazil   (06.02.09)
The so- called saudi peace plan was meant to destroy Israel without a fight with milions of supposed palestinians's refugees full of hate coming to stab us during daylight.
13. Obama Is NOT Right
NYC Girl   (06.02.09)
I say this not only as a resident of the American city al Qaeda would most like to wipe off the map, but also as a diehard secularist with virtually nothing in common with the settler movement. However, solving the Israeli/Palestinian conflict by putting the screws to Israel will do nothing to satisfy the anti-western bloodlust of the jihadists. In fact, we already have a model for a democratically-elected Palestinian state when Israel turned Gaza over to the Arabs virtually lock, stock and barrel and the irredentist thugs of Hamas immediately turned the territory into a launching pad to attack Israeli civilians. And if Obama is either too stupid (or too venal) to recognize it, perhaps he should go back to his job as a community organizer in the most politically corrupt city in the United States and to the church where he was a congregant for twenty years but claimed he never heard any of the racist vitriol of his friend and mentor Jeremiah Wright.
14. Axioms
Israscot ,   Israel   (06.02.09)
People whose political views are not to be argued with. Those who disagree are either fools or rogues. Thats why the good general's views are called axioms. And an axiom is . . . a principle that is accepted as true without proof.
15. More Leftist crap
Frank ,   Canada   (06.02.09)
Arabs don't want peace with Israel, they have drafted this fake peace plan because they don't want to be portrayed as what they really are: the cause of this war. Moreover, even if they wanted it, Arabs are not able to deliver the goods. Claiming that diplomatic inaction is the cause of the war is also a lie because there is no diplomatic solution to this war for the time being. It has been proved by Oslo, Annapolis and all other "peace" bullshit.
16. are you for real?
sheeri ,   new york USA   (06.02.09)
The pan- arab decision is: no israel. if we had our enemies decide our fate we would have been eliminated a long time ago!!!
17. Fine then stop "natural growth" of non-Jewish population
John S ,   Houston USA   (06.02.09)
If Herr Obama is going to say that there can be no more expansion of the Jewish population outside of Israel, then a legitimate request would be that there be no more "natural growth" of non-Jewish populations INSIDE of Israel. . . .maybe he will realize what a ridiculous request he is making. I think something all of you Jews need to realize is that when the world asks an arm and a leg from you in return for someone liking you more, that is a ridiculous request regardless of any previous standing relationship. I'm sorry that Bush isn't around to stand by you guys any more and that we have an apologist like Obama who is tryng to get the whole world to love the US.
18. Well said
Giora Me'ir ,   USA   (06.02.09)
19. stubborn
gdg ,   israel   (06.02.09)
tell the gush katif folks who were painfully extricated from their homes and then saw worse violence since then that we are the stubborn ones
20. Why waste ink $ paper to print this YENET
Ely Greenhut ,   Tzfat Israel   (06.02.09)
21. Just another load of hot air...this approach doesnt work.
Scott ,   Australia   (06.02.09)
...either. Yes, there's a few who obviously agree with this article, but seriously, you could give everything to the Pals and it just wouldn't be enough. As others have quite rightly pointed out - the arabs dont even accept Israel's right to exist. They are sworn to its destruction. So, who is there really to 'deal' with - that's right - no one. Obama's approach is not going to yield anything but more trouble. Israel cant make concessions and not get anything in return as has been the case in the past. The deal with Egypt has been an exception - but there's an isolated example of commonsense.
22. Amen
Palestinian ,   jerusalem/Palestine   (06.02.09)
i think that is the ONLY way out .. i mean the only .. with no east jerusalem and all the land taken in 1967 and comprehensive solution for the 1948 palestinians ,there will be no solution . take down the wall please ..for shame . provide the palestinians inside with war shelters ..for shame ..
23. Old useless men and their fantasies
Steven ,   San Francisco   (06.02.09)
Why they are not on the shuffleboard court and instead are writing nonsense such as this article I have no idea. If such foolish drivel were followed it would enable anti-Semites to destroy Israel.
24. an axiom for danny to understand?
ben Ish   (06.02.09)
Here ya go: It's hard to understand a thing, when your paycheck depends on you *not* understanding it. i.e., why are trying to present yourself as pro-Israel, when you are far left, with a business catering to Arabs?javascript:%20save()
25. Prophet?
Jake   (06.02.09)
Abe, what do you base that predition on? The settlers are just a source of emberassment for jews everwhere.
26. Danny is 100% correct
Jake   (06.02.09)
Anyone with half a brain will agree that it's impossible for the situation to continue as is. You can't have 70,000 settlers living in beautiful houses and move freely in the West Bank while millions of Palestinians are trapped behind checkpoints. It's immoral, unethical, and unsustainable. Just a few points to add: - The biggest mistake was pushing Abbas for elections in '05. Arabs need dictators. Period. It's something about Arab cultures that doesn't work well with democracy. - The next biggest mistake was not engaging in talks with Hammas after they won the elections. It would have caused a great rift in their party, as many of them would be repelled by the idea of discussions with Israel, and that would have weakened them considerably. - The next big mistake is not recognizing that every minor settlement expansion throws a monkey wrench into the Arab perception that there is a possibility for peace. Growth of settlements for any reason – natural or shmatural – sends the message that these towns are here to stay and that Palestinians will forever be subjected to the harsh conditions of checkpoints, curfews, property destruction, etc.
27. obumma is the first arab president of the US and wants to
Bunnie Meyer ,   Los Angeles, CA USA   (06.02.09)
see Israel weakened and forced to give up land given to it by G-D and reclaimed by the blood of IDF.
28. Obama is Wrong
TM ,   Santa Rosa Ca   (06.02.09)
This article is way off ..to the left. Why should we believe Obama has Israel's best interest at heart when he has bowed to Saudi's king already once...no no no...why allow our left jews to set Israel up for ruin again? If this pan-arab view took care of the Pals in the past maybe there would have been a slight bit of a leg to stand on in this view, however they have not..in fact quite the oposite has happened where they have total disreguard for their brothers other than violence ...either sending them fighters or not funding/accepting them into their countries. I do hope Bibi stands strong and muzzles Barak for this is our greatest hope for a future Israel...read the pal charter ...they don't want peace or two countires side by side..they want us gone...anywhich way they can achieve this goal is good in their eyes. Have all of our jewish ideals and soldiers, who have fallen, died in vain?
29. What we have here.
David ,   USA, exile   (06.02.09)
What we have here people is a "covenant with death," Everyone should take a hard look at what is taking place in the world. Prophecy is being fulfilled even as we speak.
30. Wrong again.
Brad ,   USA   (06.02.09)
And, the author of this article is a prime mover in Israel's problems. Compromise, land for "peace", and endless talk, have resulted in nothing but rocket attacks, mortar attacks, suicide bombers, and more world condemnation for Israel, for not doing enough. Israel would do well to receive their true King (Jesus of Nazareth), and take the land God gave them, from the river of Egypt to the Euphrates. As for Obama, he couldn't find his rear end with a funnel.
