Jewish Americans could have been helpful to my family and others that were destroyed in the Holocaust by putting pressure on their Democratic congressman. They didn't. I voted for Pres. Obama because I think he is a brilliant, fair-minded reflective person who is uniquely qualified to lead our country BUT... If Pres. Obama and Sec. Clinton want the US to be taken seriously as an IMPARTIAL interlocuter for the Israeli-Palestinian Mid-East process, they cannot be perceived by EITHER SIDE as being biased or as creating demands that pressure either party. Their job is to MEDIATE the negotiations between the parties and try to get them to agree to a fair compromise to their conflict. They will get NOWHERE with the Israeli gov't or the Israeli public if the perception becomes that they are trying to apply "pressure" (i.e. extortion!) by threatening to withdraw support. Likewise, they can almost certainly expect a backlash from BOTH Israelis AND Palestinians if they think their job is dictating the terms in order force a settlement to the dispute. They cannot on the one hand meddle in the affairs of another country or would-be country and on the other act like they are being fair and impartial. IT JUST WON'T WORK.
