(06.10.09)
When American Jews vote for Hussein Obama.
2. they do not like to come to Israel ?
(06.10.09)
3. are you suprised?
chaim schonbrun ,   brooklyn ny   (06.10.09)
after all 70% of u.s jews voted for the jew hating western civilization hating bolshevik loving hussein obama, who is a much bigger danger to israel than all the terrorist organizations combined, and jews in israel are not much better, almost 50% of voters voted for the criminaly insane traitorous self hating leftist cowards of kadima and labor, unfortunately when it comes to self preservation, jews are clueless and actually it borders on suicidal
4. #2 We belong in the lands our families helped build
Historical Observer ,   NY   (06.10.09)
Just because we are Jewish it doesn't mean we have to come to Israel. Most of the Iraqi Jews were forced to leave Baghdad because of hate and violence, there was no choice. Iran allows their small Jewish community to exist, but they are treated as dhimmis. Persian Jews survive in Iran, Syrian Jews are living there too.
5. Iranian Jews are scared or have been brainwashed
Talula ,   Israel   (06.10.09)
No Jew would vote for that mental case - I suspect bullying!
6. casting your vote- signing your death ceriificate
Markus   (06.10.09)
This is really depressing news. They are voting the same way many Jews voted before WWII-when voted for Hitler and his party- little did they know. 'They have no problem supporting whoever is elected'? What exactly does this mean? Mousavi is 'unpredictable' and Ahmad is ?
7. #2
Shira   (06.10.09)
#2, what planet are you from? Surely you know that the Jews of Iran can't come here freely. As for the article, I am reminded of an old bit of Jewish exile-wisdom that my rabbi taught me long ago: Never pray for a new king.
8. Haters out in full force
Giora Me'ir ,   USA   (06.10.09)
I see the Obama haters are out in full force on here. I shouldn't restrict their hate to Obama, since they seem to hate everyone, including many of their fellow Jews.
9. There are not 25,000 Jews in Iran today
Jake   (06.10.09)
This is a media-inflated figure to make Iran look tolerant. The real figure is about half that.
10. #4 This is a joke, right?
Jake   (06.10.09)
There are under 50 Jews still in Syria. The last spiritual leader of the Jews in Syria, Rabbi Abraham Hamra left in 1994. I remember reading an interview of Hamra in a National Geographic article on Syria (before that date) in which Hamra denounced Israel and praised Assad and the Palestinian cause, all while a Syrian government "chaperon" was lurking in the background. Hamra left as part of a Jewish exodus permitted by the Syrian government on condition that they would not go to Israel. Hamra left for New York and finally settled in Israel. Needless to say, the Rabbi's take on Jewish life in Syria is a little different than what he had said in the National Geographic article.
11. No doubt, Jimmy Carter will serve as election observer
Jake   (06.10.09)
To prove to the whole world that Iran's elections are free and fair.
12. Jewish Vote in Iran
NYC Girl   (06.10.09)
This is the quintessential case of "the devil you know is better than the devil you don't." But it's a shame the Jews (and all the people of Iran for that matter) aren't given better alternatives.
13. #5 brainwashed Jews
Cynic #2   (06.10.09)
The only brain washed Jews I see around are Israeli Jews. that's why they behave like way they do.
14. to Chaim and Talula
Gregg ,   Haifa, IL   (06.10.09)
Chaim you're sick !!!! It's because of people like you that Israel is going to commit suicide ! And Talula, what about Jews of Israel??? Don't you think most of them have been brain washed already????
15. Why The Shock?
Neil ,   Maale Adumim, Israel   (06.10.09)
Over 90% of American Jews voted for Obama. Very few of them, it woud seem, regret it. Even today.
16. THIS ELECTION IS AS DEMOCRATIC AS THE SOVIET COMMUNIST ONES
stude ham   (06.10.09)
the ballots are marked and the voters hunted down.
17. "Wipe off map" was never said.
Peter Morris ,   New zealand   (06.10.09)
One of the greatest hoaxes over recent years is unrelenting repetition by Israeli and Western media of a the so called "wipe Israel of the map" remark. A simple Google research will establish the real remark and it's circumstances. Anyway an English translation is reqired in the first place.
18. Barak for Oslo, Livni for Hamas' Gaza,
Ron ,   Tel Aviv   (06.10.09)
Bibi did not learn very much, US jews for Imam Hussein. What do want of stupid people?
19. That's Funny.
Heather Czerniak ,   Milwaukee, USA   (06.10.09)
My husband and I are Jewish and we voted Libertarian last November. We did it to protest the two-party monopoly held by Democrats and Republicans for 155 years. Why Jews in Iran would vote for Ahmadinejad is beyond me. I'd like to think that Iranian Jews are too scared to vote for anyone else, which is understandable.
20. Peter #17
Ari   (06.10.09)
Yes, I looked at the translation and in fact Ahmadinajad said that he wanted to 'wipe Israeli children's bottoms' and 'give Israelis milk and cookies'. He also said that he wanted to 'provide Israel with free nuclear power for 100 years' and that as a result 'Israel would be well lit day and night with a comforting green glow'. What a nice man he is! Oh actually I guess the most generous translation is "vanish from the pages of time". Hmm, yes, that is *definitely* a very different statement, especially when you're building nukes...Just like when some other people said that they wanted to move the Jews to the "East".
21. no 17 - "Wipe off map" was never said.
sean ,   Occupied Britain   (06.10.09)
Hi Peter, thanks for sharing your in-depth knowledge of Farsi with us (I assume you're fluent...) Can you tell me why the Iranian Government's English propaganda arms (IRNA/Press TV) render the phrase as "wipe off the map..." in English. Perhaps you can share your professorial knowledge of Persian linguistics with those guys instead of trolling your enemies...
22. Not So Menashri! Save the Jewish Dignity
Saint Michael Travel ,   San Diego, USA   (06.10.09)
You just kicked Iranian Jews in the place where it hurts the most, their dignity. In contrast to your comment, Iranian Jews are Iranian and wish the best for their country. Your statement "So the Jews plan to ensure they are on the winning side" is just kind of anti-Jewish. Think about it, you are wrong.
23. Iranian Jews are Iranians, get a grip!!!
Javad ,   Tehran, Iran   (06.10.09)
How about this? The jews of Iran just like other Iranians will vote for whoever that benefits them. Ahmadinejad has poured million of dollars on Jewish projects particularly the jewish medical charity for the poor etc and by in large has been even more supportive of the jewish community than previous government, and on a personal level is a likeable guy when he visits the jewish community, unlike the image you have created for him!
24. Iranian Jews vote under Duress
Yakov   (06.10.09)
It's not really fair to say that they freely choose to vote for Ahmedi. The elections are not free, and whatever candidates that have a serious chance are either for the status quo or an even stricter state of affairs in Iran. That's not choice. That's coercion.
25. National Socialist Party
Saul C ,   Plantation, FL   (06.10.09)
So let me understand this: Had the Jews voted for the National Socialist's platform in the early 20th Century, history would have been different?
26. Jews Voted For Obama,Why Not Ahmad
Lawrence ,   Safed Israel   (06.10.09)
Jinedad.?Jews voted for Hitler and many tyrants, why not for the President of Iran who,in reality,is just a Pussycat.Miow Miow.
27. To Javad from Tehran
Anna ,   Be'er Sheva, Israel   (06.10.09)
I want to believe you, but the truth is, it's hard to support the views of a man who denies the holocaust. I'm not even talking about all he says about Israel, the issue is too complicated, and anyway Iranian Jews have the right to say "i don't care about it"...
28. #17 That was the translation of the Iraninan government news
Jake   (06.10.09)
agency that was officially broadcast to the world, so I suppose we should take them at their word. That was also the translation of the official website of the Iranian President. However, if we really want to split hairs over what was said in the original Persian, then the debate is between "Israel should be wiped off the map" or "Israel will vanish from the pages of time". No doubt if some nuke-pursuing Jihadist head of state announced "New Zealand will vanish from the pages of time", you wouldn't feel the least bit uneasy. Or are you just trying to distract from issues a little closer home that you are hoping to sweep under the carpet?
29. Unwashed Taxi Driver
Irritant ,   USA   (06.10.09)
The iranian president: an unwashed taxi driver.
