1. Playing Both Sides
Marcel ,   Florida   (06.10.09)
The U.S. is the perfect example of a two timing whore. The slut likes many partners. Israel is too faithless and stupid to dump the whore and dirties herself in this sick, perverted relationship wich will only bring great suffering and misery. There is no peace coming out of this sick marriage.
2. what about...
ghostq   (06.10.09)
quat "plan that among other things calls on Palestinians to halt violence" have you seen the palis stop the violence, I say no, now it is more clear that Israel will get close to Russia, at least they can stop the Iran nuke.
3. Israel must topple Abbas
(06.10.09)
If Israel can orchestrate the overthrow of the American puppet Abu Mazen, and bring Hamas into the West Bank, that will effectively kill the "Peace Process", before it destroys Israel.
4. Questions for Mr. Mitchell
Reuven Brauner ,   Raanana, Israel   (06.10.09)
We read about the "legitimate Palestinian aspiration for dignity, opportunity and a state of their own" 1. Who legitimizes this "aspiration"? Does this mean that every group that "aspires" to have a state of its own has a legitimate aspiration, even if that means that this state will cause the break up of the existing, majority-ruled state and threaten its existence? 2. Although dignity can agreed upon, what is the mean of "opportunity"? Opportunity to do what? Is this only opportunity to prosper? What if this opportunity threatens its neighboring countries? 3. Does the US always support "states of their own" everywhere in the world or this rule applied only the Arabs of Israel at the expense of the Jews? That is, is America real honest in its desire that all peoples of the world have their own state as an absolute rule or are there circumstances which may mitigate this aspiration? Why did the US not take kindly to the South when it, too, wanted to have "a state of its own" and cecede from the North? Was that not their legitimate aspiration, as well?
5. scums like #1,2,3 are going to destroy Israel !
(06.10.09)
6. Mr. Mitchell, I turn your offer down
David ,   Shilo Israel   (06.10.09)
Mr. Mitchell, I have the democratic power of a voter. In this regard, I feel that I am part of the majority of voters in Israel that elected a right wing government to ensure that the very opposite of what you propose takes place. That is that the integrity of Israel today, including what you call 'occupied' territory, is maintained under Israeli control. I am in favor of peaceful relations with local Arabs, but under secure conditions. Your 2 state proposal is a recipe for a future horrific war that would probably serve to destroy the very same Arab people you currently seek to elevate. It is also a blatant act of racist crime against our Jewish people that you seek to divest us off our rightful land. Thank you for trying to solve a problem that is only made worse by your biased involvement, but if you really meant that stuff about remaining our friend no matter what, leave Jews alone!
7. Time to kick Mitchell out
Brod ,   USA   (06.10.09)
It is time for Israel to kick Mitchell out from her soil. Israel does not need an idiot to tell her what to do and to inflame the Jihadism of the Islamist-Jihadists.
8. Jews to Europe+Pals to Jordan or Sinai Desert
Sam ,   Canada   (06.10.09)
The 2 state solution is viable only for the Israeli left and the USA and Western countries. That is why they get along so well. The Israeli right and the Palestinians wish to control the West Bank and Israel proper. They are both ambiguous about it in the hope of not alienating the USA and the West.. That's the bottom line.
9. Surrealism replaces Realism.
Terry ,   Eilat, Israel   (06.10.09)
All the empty rhetoric aside, the two-state solution is going nowhere, it cannot be implemented, certainly not with that nonentity Abbas, who famously, has been described as, "not able to deliver a pizza much less peace." Our differences with the Palestinians are irreconcilable. Obama will crash & burn - his economic policy is a disaster, unemployment is rising, the outlook is for tax increases (a VAT, for example), inflation, a collapse of the dollar, & high interest rates. His foreign policy initiatives are going nowhere. Events on the ground will be impossible to cover up forever, even a compliant, fawning media will gradually come to question his policies (and this has already started). Imagine the reaction in America if Iran tests a nuclear weapon (hopefully not on us). Iraq may explode again. Who knows what will happen in Pakistan? Basically, we will outlast Obama - he needs successes fast & we shouldn't help him get any.
10. "viable answer"
(06.10.09)
Mitchell is wrong. As Arafat always said, the two-state solution is not viable. There is not enough territory, water or infrastructure. If the borders define a viable Israel, the Arab state will not be able to support itself. Mitchell is simply articulating his support for the destruction of Israel.
11. yest i need the two state solution
rashid ,   palistinian   (06.10.09)
i hope the eu and usa and cccp will work hard and the un to give us the two states solution and then build it for us and clean it for us and guard it for us and do everything for us because we the palistinian people have worked so hard to build we are the palistinian people more handsome then the italian people why do they have the two state solution believe me and we have nothing where is the bbc where is cnn where is my humus
12. Question
Sarah ,   New York City, USA   (06.10.09)
On the one hand, the current U.S. administration is claiming continuing commitment to Israel. On the other hand, it is pledging undying support for Palestinians. We all know that the current internal political circumstances of Palestinians render them an unrealistic and untrustworthy negotiating partner for Israel. Moreover, Israel will NOT negotiate with any party or organization that refuses to recognize Israel's right to exist -- which is tantamount to wishing to bring about Israel's destruction. So, I guess the question really is which loyalty is stronger? Simply put, is it to a terrorist rabble that rejoiced on September 11th? Or is it to a democratic loyal ally whose Jewish citizens formed lines that wrapped several times around the block to donate blood on September 11th? Scary days, these.
13. My, my
Sarah ,   New York City, USA   (06.10.09)
"America will not turn... (its) back on the legitimate Palestinian aspiration for dignity, opportunity and a state of their own" How noble. Do those sentiments extend to the Kurdish people? How about the Tamil people? Let's not forget the Basque! Mustn't forget to include the Savoyards or the Bretonnais. Heaven forfend we overlook the Polisario! Et cetera, et cetera, et cetera. It would appear that all this special consideration applies only to vicious terrorists who have lost six wars, brought unremitting violence to the world for a very long time (remember those airplane hijackings in the 1970s?) and rejected out-of-hand every offer for a two state solution. If the U.S. wants to give them dignity, opportunity and a state of their own, go right ahead -- JUST NOT AT ISRAEL's EXPENSE. AND NOT ON ISRAELI SOIL (and, yes, I do include the territories which were legitimately and legally acquired by Israel while fighting a defensive war).
14. # 12 > The Caravan Continues
Linda ,   US   (06.10.09)
If Obama yielded on his demand for a settlement freeze, then he would have done no better than all of his predecessors in this regard. Since a settlement freeze has been Americas policy since settlements began, it is sad there has not been a single American president to stand firm behind Americas position. Now it is Israels turn to blink. Don't cry about it.
15. 5#, Too afraid to even put your name down?
Judah ,   Golan Heights,ISRAEL   (06.10.09)
16. To: No. 14
Sarah ,   New York City, USA   (06.10.09)
The settlements are fully legal, the land acquisition fully legal (read the Hague Second and Third Conventions), and Israel is not a vassal of the United States. Israel doesn't push the United States with respect to the land illegally grabbed from Native Americans, or via the so-called "Gadsden Purchase," by which the U.S. took Arizona, New Mexico and Southern California from Mexico. The United States should have a similar respect for Israel's sovereignty.
17. get real and pick your options talkbackers
avramele   (06.10.09)
ok, so which of these options do you truly support --you can't just say no to everything: 1. a 2 state solution with negotiated borders and territorial exchange...a palestinian state and a Jewish democratic state and no or limited (symbolic) right of return for palestinians and a creative solution to the issue of Jerusalem 2. A one state solution under Jewish political dominance with limited political rights for non-Jews 3. A one state solution with equal rights for all in a mult-national democracy 4. Annexation of Judea and Samaria and expulsion of the Arab population
18. SO WHAT PART OF JERUSALEM WILL WE GIVE UP???
stude ham   (06.10.09)
for a two-state solution... mr mitchell ... no ground will be given up for your empty rhetoric. flatulence smells just as bad from whatever source it comes from... including BO's misguided regime.
19. Abbas - who is he?
Jane ,   Czech Republic   (06.10.09)
What "president" is Abbas? His mandate was gone in January 2009. He wasn´t elected, because in "autonomy" weren´t "elections" in 2008 and 2009 year. And, what national or international law knows "autonomy" outside the state? "Palestinian autonomy" is horrible absolute nonsense in every law in every civilized country.
20. cut off aid
edward ,   usa   (06.10.09)
cut off aid, I don't want another dime of my tax dollars going to these vicious, disgusting settlers.
21. It is over folks
Ian   (06.10.09)
I am looking forward to visit Palestine and Israel.
22. #12
Nour ,   Palestine   (06.10.09)
Sarah's usual diatribe I see. Stop rewriting history. People like you shouted "PALESTINIANS!" when the towers went down, on CNN, Fox, Sky, you name it. I remember it very vividly. Among the names thrown around at Murdock Inc. were PFLP, Jihad, PLO, you name it, you tried so hard to smear the good name of the Palestinian cause and people but thank God you failed and failed miserably to tarnish our image, discredit us as a bunch of senseless terrorists well you're WRONG. Sept. 11 had NOTHING to do with Palestinians. You know it, the world knows it, give it a rest. As for the rejoicing, totally understandable from Apache victims and other widows who were brutally occupied by the US' prime "ally" in the region, and given the skewed and unconditional support the US has given to Israel on a silver platter for decades. Stop your royal drama and get with the program: RECOGNIZE PALESTINE'S RIGHT TO EXIST or and demand that your govt. in Tel Aviv GIVE UP the illegal settlements. Otherwise no peace -> One state solution -> Death of the "jewish-only" racist state. Guess who wins. Actually it's a win-win situation for us. Not a bad deal, after surviving 60 years.
23. Ben Gurion's Dream Failed
Nour ,   Palestine   (06.10.09)
BEN GURION: "We must build a strong army to counteract any aggression initiated by the indigineous peoples of the land". Guess what folks, we're still here. No amount of Apaches, phosphor bombs, or snake robots will drive us out of our lands. Give it up. In short, Ben Gurion, Hertzl, and all of your other "Heroes" were habitual liars. Time to revise your history boys and girls. Either you play by ethical standards and abide by international law and past agreements, or you get swallowed by an Arab majority come 2020. Take your pick.
24. Legitimate Aspirations
Daniel Francis ,   Michigan   (06.10.09)
To all those who criticize American support for the "legitimate aspirations of the palestinian people": Have you forgotten that there was a time when there was no Jewish State? Those who condemn american support for the palestinian people with references to the kurds and the Tamils are only making the arguments against the creation of Israel seem more plausible.
25. #14 You shot yourself in the foot
Nour ,   Palestine   (06.10.09)
Thanks for the entertaining analogy (Palestinians/Native Americans). Except there's one detail you didn't mention: Palestinians are NOT Iroquois or Amerindians. Furthermore we live in 2009. As you infereed, we ARE the natives, and you're squatters.
26. #23, yeah we could just make it up like you guys
Danny   (06.10.09)
don't need apaches, just some firecrackers to make your "fighters" run for their women's skirts.
27. Jerusalem
ben mordecai   (06.10.09)
once municipal administration but sovereignity based on population -- what is Jewish is Israel, what is arab is Palestine and what is holy is hashem's (Allah in arabic translation)...Jerusalem the capital of Israel - Al Quds the capital of Palestine
28. MITCHELL is OBAMA stooge AND OBAMA is a vile anti ISRAEL!
GET REAL ,   USA   (06.10.09)
29. edward #20
Brod ,   USA   (06.10.09)
That is the typical crap of Islamist-Jihadist/AntiSemite that you are spewing. What America needs to do is to cut of the $700 petrodollars that the America gives to the Arab Islamist-Jihadist states in the Middle East annually. All they do is use the money to fund Islamist-Jihadist terrorism around the world.
30. #27
Daniel Francis ,   Michigan   (06.10.09)
I don't agree with the country part, but I'm all for the city part. That is the best type of solution for Jerusalem.
