1. this sounds like...a
personal prejudice gossip piece of some high school kid trying to convince his classmates not to vote for whoever. It will be up to Shas to decide if and when to take this man back, in the meantime it sounds from this that the journalistic powers that be in this country are starting to pick up their sabers to begin the battle that had a temporary respite over the last 7 years. You and Deri make me ill!

3. life-time ban is appropriate
With 7 million people in Israel do we have to take our politicians from the same small infected pool?
I do not think that it harms democracy in any way to permanently remove those shown to be immoral and who disregard the responsibility given to them.
Maybe he's changed, maybe not, but there are enough people out there with the same ideology who would not corrupt the office.

7. Only in Israel do you need to ban corrupt pols...
...because only in Israel would such a person have a snowball's chance in hell of getting elected.
In most US states, a convicted politician could run for office even from within jail but wouldn't be able to vote for himself because felons are usually disenfranchised.
Israelis need to take a long hard look at their electoral system and ask themselves why someone like Deri could get elected in the first place. If we had Israel's system in the US, Nixon would have had enough blind loyalists to get a seat in congress after Watergate.
