To be frank, I find most of these people rather strange. Their belief that judaism is passed by "blood", and the fact that they feel or know that they have jewish ancessors several generations ago makes them feel jewish. They ain't jewish. Judaism is much more than blood relation, it is philosophy, lifestye and most important jewish education. The blood relation doesn't pay much of a role. A Jew's descent is from the mother and if the bloodline can be proved then the person is a Jew. Conversions are not germane under Jewish law. If you convert you are still a Jew.
