1. Who was the target of PM's speech
Baruch ,   Wellington NZ   (06.15.09)
Just a brief decoding: Mr Nissan calls the audience Bibi addressed 'the right and centre', and that is right. But I'd also call them people of reason, as opposed to the Left who want a Palestinian state even if it's established not along, but instead the Jewish one. Actually, the latter is the only Arab concept we've heard till now. Let's see what wil be their respond to Netanyahu's speech. Somehow, I don't hold by breath.
2. This is not a shopping list Dror!
Jewish Refugee   (06.15.09)
I am sorry but your post does not make any sense other than you don't like Netanyahu! You cannot jump from one point to another without establishing bridges (facts).
3. After Oslo, Netanyahu didn't concede anything
Ilan ,   Ariel   (06.15.09)
In his first term he accepted the principle that the Oslo agreement was not reversible. This speech concedes nothing more than what Israel has already formally agreed in the international arena. On the other hand the Palestinians will find it very hard to accept the two conditions that Israel has set out (and did so under Rabin, Barak and Netanyahu in the past) namely that the PA state not be a miliary trojoan horse for foreign forces and that it is in stead of the right of return.
4. And Hamas is the light ?
Paul ,   US   (06.15.09)
Israel will remain a sovereign independent nation long after Obama. Bibi is helping to see to that and telling the Arabs [and Obama ] Israel is not folding . Bibi threw the ball back to the Arabs. It is for the Arabs who started the wars of destruction to move to peace which Israel wants and offers. Dror you are the one out of step with the majority of Israel I suspect.
5. No to settlement freeze
Justine Effort ,   Paris France   (06.15.09)
Not o a shared Jerusalem No to an Independent Palestinian state No to the right of return No to the dismantling the settlements
6. "Obama will not make a difference" in the ME
Steve   (06.15.09)
The bottom line in this opinion piece is the following very sad state of affairs: Mr. Nissan wrote: "(E)ven though Netanyahu is not quite Columbus, he is deeply familiar with America and its system of government, rules of play, power, and OUR DEPENDENCE ON IT (emphasis mine). And: "However, it will take time. Netanyahu’s speech shows us that he still recognizes America’s centrality and realizes that something happened there." And there you have it. Israel is hopelessly dependent on a country that seeks her destruction. America is more of an existential threat to Israel than Iran at the moment. Israel cannot extricate herself from this deadly embrace. While I do not agree with every point in the following piece, it is worth reading and considering: http://www.israpundit.com/2008/?p=13958
7. Bibi stuck it to Obama.

DACON9   (06.15.09)

HOW ABOUT ALL THE GREAT WONDORUS ACHIEVMENTS ISRAEL GAVE TO THE WORLD OF MEICINE AND TECHNOLOGY HOW ABOUT THE PURE CLEAN FACT THAT OUR FOREFATHERS WALKED LIVED AND RAISED FAMILIES ON JUDEA AND SAMEREA.
