That he defied Israel's best friend over the settlement freeze is appalling and it won't go away because of a Bnai Brit appeal to the old neo-con Zionists of the Galut. In this new world, for this new generation of Jews who voted Obama, there is no more patience for delay and denial. What we want is the end to the Israel-Palestine conflict, genuine and real final status talks, not some Golda inspired rhetoric. Yes the other side is divided but who contributed to that? Its time for Israel to make real moves. Until it does, stop this 'appeal above the heads of the Administration' tactic. This is no longer the old Israel-Diaspora era when Israel tugged at the heart-strings and the money chute in the Diaspora started spouting currency and support. Too many young Jews do not see Israel as the priority it once was and you can't blame all the usual suspects for that. The problem, however, is that for too many US Jews, especially the younger cohort, their "religion" is liberalism. They're completely in the tank for Obama. I know; my own brother is one of them (and like many, he's never even visited Israel). Even the leadership is moving leftward. The new heads of both AIPAC and the Conference of Presidents of Major Jewish Organizations are active supporters of Obama. AIPAC activists even sent out their members to promote a "two state" policy only vaguely more responsible than that of J Street. Bibi's approach *should* be supported as it's more reasoned and more realistic than the slanted approach Obama has been pushing. But clearly Bibi and his people have a lot of work to do.

if israelis honestly believe that most american jews care a hoot about israel, they are sorely mistaken. most american jews are jews by name only: they have no significant jewish identity and are not religious. The only jews who care at all about israel are the orthodox ("modern" as well as haredi). a few conservatives and reform might profess their jewish identity, but when they have to choose between being an obama zombie and supporting the jews in israel, they don't have to think too long.

I happen to have a friend who is very senior in the Israeli military. He instructs americans, germans, french, indians and of course israelis at an elite level in counter terrorism. The reason why the other countries come to learn in Israel is for one reason. The Israelis "LIVE" the reality of real threats and don't just have to "train" for it... they have to know how to really deal with, perfectly... every time. That's the difference between the Jews of the diaspora, and those Jews who live in Israel. Living in Israel is about being and protecting the Land of Israel and therefore allowing the Jews of the diaspora the freedom to live comfortably in other lands. It's damn hard work. Without Israel, no one else could live the cushy life they do elsewhere. We all OWE... YES THATS RIGHT,,, I SAID WE "OWE" the citizens of Israel, the soldiers who defend it and the courageous individuals that sacrifice their very lives there. So yes... I say yes... if they think we should provide them more support... then damit, it's the least we can do. And don't tell me that "we send them all the money"... let me tell you, how much bloody easier it is to send money... not that it's not veryyyyyy much appreciated.. but try living there, serving in the IDF, surviving injuries, the trauma of suicide bombings and the burying of not just our own... but our own children. Your comments are very interesting. Israel has done more for peace over the last 15 years then anyone could have ever expected. BTW, the American Jews who voted for Obama are Israel's worst enemies. The apathy and indifference of American Jewry to Israel is a disturbing trend but not something that Israel is guilty of. American Jews are narccisistic at best and too self-indulged at worst to care. What concessions would Israel have to make to have 100% peaceful Palistinian state? If what was offered by UN in 1948 was unacceptable to Arabs then......why would a situation that provides significantly less......be a relable basis for peace now? Is there ever going to emerge Palestinian leadership that speaks for all Palestinians? What Bibi offered is unrealistic. What self-respecting nation would accept such limits ("unarmed.".."not in control of own airspace"). Instead, base peace on a bilateral/mutual non-aggression WARRANTY. If either state initiates aggression.....agreement warrants that aggressor's loss of land in subsequent war will be permanent.....and such land will be vacated by defeated. If aggressor wins, nations that are guarantors of the pact (US, Russia, Germany, etc) pledge to immediately mobilize and reestablish the prewar situation.
