UTJ faction head wishes Ahmadinejad luck     Amnon Meranda
1. Precisely
Mousafi is seen as a "reformer" in the West. Ahmadinejad is seen as a radical hard-liner. The Ahmadinejad victory ensures that tough sanctions remain in place against a hard-line bellicose Iranian regime. As well they should.

3. Precisely Useless
Sarah, the sanctions against Iran are like water off a duck's back. North Korea laughs at you too!

4. #3 Which is why Iran's economy is falling apart, right?
And in Iran, unlike in North Korea, the people actually matter. The Islamic Republic relies on a semblance of democratic elections to placate the populace - when that starts to crumble, people get angry. In North Korea, Kim just has people shot when they don't please him. Or gassed. Or any other horror that comes to mind. So yeah, he and his cronies don't care much about the way the country suffers - time to mark it as a dangerous rogue state,as it should be.

5. Sarah I beg to differ with you ........... or not
Mousavi is an extremist albeit with a more pleasant looking and smiling face. On the other hand the ones who voted for him are 90% + begging for for real reform. They voted for Mousavi because he was the least bad of the bunch allowed to be candidates. They could harass and harangue Mousavi if he doesn't institute real reforms and reverse the course of Iran from the path of nuclear destruction. It is not like in 1997 with Khatami, today these voters sense that the regime is weaker and that they can demand a lot. This is my hope and although it is a risk for Israel, there is still a chance that things will turn around in Iran. If we see a ray of light like this one we should take it to avoid a colossal confrontation with the Persians that will undermine the traditional friendship with them for the last 2500 years. With AhMonkey in power I have no such problem, I can give up on the friendship to save Israel, but now it could be different. Recall that when Gorbachev became Secretary General we all dismissed him as just a somewhat kinder face to oppressive Communism, and indeed he had no plans of dismantling the system as a whole. He was not doing much better than before but the people got encouraged, and feeling the weakness of the regime pressured him into making more and more concessions until the entire mighty Soviet Union fell apart 6 years later and today we are all better off for it.
