1. Looks good.
Roman ,   Lod, Israel   (06.22.09)
Professionally designed, and should be very useful to religious Jewish women.
2. cool

3. Orthodox Jewish women have the lowest rates of cervical
Rivkah   (06.22.09)
cancer for any group of women studied in scientific research. That is due to several factors: (1) the husbands are circumcised, (2) the Orthodox Jews tend to marry once and not divorce so multiple sex partners is rarely an issue, (3) sexual intercourse is forbidden during the menses and the week after the menses which is a protection for the woman from infection, (4) bathing and cleanliness are important, (5) the Orthodox Jewish husbands are more likely to be virgins at the wedding as are the brides so there is less risk of STD transmission. Few cultures are so caring about the reproductive health of the women as the Orthodox Jews are. Other cultures could learn a thing or two from studying their ways. Then they would not need vaccines for cervical cancer that can cause the death of the female who is given the shot to prevent cervical cancer that would not be a risk factor if women were as protected as Orthodox Jewish women are most of the time.
4. mideavil tomfoolery
nadav ,   tel aviv   (06.23.09)
these practices should have ended over a thousand years ago? Instead of wasting his time at MIT calculating how when Orthodox women are "allowed" to sleep next to their husbands, maybe he should have concentrated on new technology that would encourage Hasidic/Haredi Jews to work!
5. #4 First, learn to spell "medieaval".
Roman ,   Lod, Israel   (06.23.09)
6. Nadav #4 zero tollerance
motti ,   Bet Shemesh   (06.23.09)
I would expect that someone as eductaed and sophisitcated as your self would have the understanding that not all Orthodox and haredim don't work. Yes some are parasites. And there are just as many secular and sefardi israelis that also try to beat the system and take advantage of society. Israelis have the worst reputation all over the world of being cheats and untrustworthy. All of the hareidim I know work. why must every article be an opportunity for self hating Jews to come out of the closet and bash orthodox Jews. Grow up already. Hate comes from 1 of 2 things: ignorance or insecurity.
7. #3 - Women who don't sleep with men...
Dorothy Friend ,   Tel Aviv   (06.23.09)
... for any reason also have low rates. It's the men who are carcincogenic -- maybe they should have a label on them as on ciggies! And what so difficult about counting between 5-7 (depending on the stream and community) of Judaism after staining ends? One needs a computer for that?
8. Firstly, Dorothy: Thank you for not doing a TB like Nadav #4
L ,   Elad, Israel   (06.23.09)
Kol HaKavod and genuine thanks. Secondly, you're right: it's not very complicated at all, but there is a little bit more to it than just the "5-7" thing. There are the "Onot" where if you are "regular" like a clock one must abstain on that particular "start day" as well as a precautionary measure and if not "regular" than one must calculate based on the previous Jewish calendar month's start date and chalk-off that day as well. I know of a gynecologist who became religious because, among other things, she was so impressed with the religious clientele who were "so in touch with their bodies" and their health in that regard. Also, In the course of her regular "bedikot" (checking for staining) a friend of mine detected a cyst on her cervix -- her puzzled gynecologist said "most women never notice these cysts until very late; how did you know it was there?" to which my friend explained about the monthly checks. (and "women who don't sleep with men for any reason" have higher rates of cancer in that region, as do women who have never given birth. Women who have not breast-fed their children also have increased rates of breast cancer as well.)
9. Love keeping Taharat Hamishpachah
