ghostq   (06.22.09)

5. have they invited the world to the show of brotherhood
observer   (06.22.09)
So, the entire Christian and Muslim population of Jerusalem who was forcefully expelled from the Jewish occupation zone in 1948 needs military crossing permits in order to pay short visit to their mother home. Yes!, a show of your true colors; Mafia was also Family.
6. #5 Actually, only the entire Jewish population was expelled
Roman ,   Lod, Israel   (06.22.09)
And from the Jordanian occupational zone. Every single Jew who once lived in the Old City of Jerusalem left it under the watching eyes of Jordanian Legionnaires. Every single synagogue and yeshiva, centuries old, was destroyed. Tombstones from Jewish graveyards were used for construction works. And the area directly next to the Western Wall became a trash heap. And that was the Great Expulsion and desecration of Jerusalem in 1948. When we came back in 1967 we *didn't* gather people under gunpoint and pointed them away from us, we *didn't* destroy mosques or churches, and we most certainly didn't treat the sites in Jerusalem important to Islam and Christianity as irrelevant or as something that needed to disappear. Under Muslim control, the very trace of Jewish presence in the city was being eradicated. Not a very friendly approach, eh? Certainly not one aimed toward coexistence.
7. #5, expelled?
Netanel ,   FL, USA   (06.22.09)
Wrong. It was the Jews who were expelled. All that area that is now called the Muslim Quarter in Jerusalem was in fact the JEWISH QUARTER prior to 1948, when the Arabs and Muslims killed and expelled the Jews. Nobody ever talks about a "land for peace" that involved removing the illegal Muslim and Arab occupation of the Jewish Quarter in the Old City. You and the rest who pedal these lies are nothing but anti-Jews.
8. why does article make it sound like
jerusalem   (06.22.09)

10. #6,7 are you Zionist? then, take the test
observer   (06.22.09)
April 2: Haganah captures Palestinian village of Castel, west of Jerusalem, expelling its inhabitants. April 5: Palestinian and Zionist leaders object to US proposals presented to Security Council for temporary trusteeship agreement. April 9: Irgun and Stern Gang massacre some 120 inhabitants in village of Deir Yassin, western suburb of Jerusalem and three miles from Castel. April 30: All Palestinian quarters in West Jerusalem occupied by Haganah and residents driven out. Arab depopulation occurred most in villages close to Jewish settlements and in vulnerable neighborhoods in Haifa, Jaffa and West-Jerusalem. The poor inhabitants of these neighborhoods generally fled to other parts of the city. 500 Palestinian villages are depopulated and destroyed. The Israelis attack parts of the territory allocated to Palestine and clear West Jerusalem of its Arab residents. According to a book by Dr. Meron Benvenisti, of the 160 mosques in the Palestinian villages incorporated into Israel under the armistice agreements, fewer than 40 are still standing. What is unusual about the case of Mash'had Nabi Hussein is that the demolition is documented, and direct responsibility was taken by none other than the GOC Southern Command at the time, an officer named Moshe Dayan. The documentation shows that the holy site was blown up deliberately, as part of a broader operation that included at least two additional mosques, one in Yavneh and the other in Ashdod. In October 1950, the ancient mosque at Yavneh, a 1,000-year-old structure whose minaret is still standing on a hill south of Yavneh, close to the train station was blown up. You have to acknowledge mistakes of the past. That puts the outrage often expressed over Jordanian destruction of Jewish religious sites in the West Bank in a different context. The Jordanian destructions used as justification for Israeli control of the West Bank. People of Israel have to recognize that the Arabs have that same attachment to theirs, and destroying them was a crime. It is about time the people of Israel start to see some of the wrongful actions taken in the past. Only then you would know that wrongs have to be corrected and actions have to be taken to have a better co-existence with the Arab neighbors.
11. Lies
Netanel ,   US   (06.22.09)
You are just copy and pasting lies from a nakba site. Get real. Many of those have been proven beyond a doubt to be lies, especially Deir Yassin, which was a BATTLE between Jewish forces, and Arab forces who were using the cover of the village to strike Jews. You are an anonymous coward.
12. #11 a little bet challenge in your history books
observer   (06.22.09)
regarding offer by the Gestapo to deport Jews to Spain; IS IT TRUE that the answer of the Zionist leaders was negative, with the following comments: a) ONLY Palestine would be considered as a destination for the deportees. b) The European Jews must accede to suffering and death greater in measure than the other nations, in order that the victorious allies agree to a "Jewish State" at the end of the war. c) No ransom will be paid
13. people from different backgrounds and religion beliefs
observer   (06.22.09)
The reason why Palestinian Christians opt to go abroad is because of the suffocating restrictions the Israeli occupation is imposing on them, not because they are being persecuted by Muslims. Those Palestinian Arabs of christian origin who live abroad cherish their Palestinian identity, which they share with their Muslim counterparts.
14. to #13 you wrong, that's what happen
ghostq   (06.23.09)
when you read a history books that the palis rewrite. jeruslaem was under siege there was no connection between the jews in the old city of Jerusalem and the jewish people in the other areas, the jews were starving in the old city didn't have nothing to eat and on top the jordenian killed them, the Deir Yassin was a battle field once againe in urban area, the arabs were shooting there like crazy the Hagana retaliated, as for Jaffa once again you faild the History facts, that wasn't the jews who made the muslem run away, but the British, the brits don't like to advertise Anchor mission but they basicaly slauwterd 2/3 of the arab population in the city, the Hiffa jewish comunity exist realy long time (check the large bedouin nomadic population- they didn't own any land and on top the carmel mountain was bald from residences) http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-3538788,00.html so get you facts straight, cause you r not so sharp as an observer.
15. #9, it may be "obvious" to you
jerusalem   (06.23.09)
but some readers didnt know that a big...rather huge factor in which palis "dont dome" is due to the IL govt's not letting them through. now it only "sounds" like the palis themselves dont want to come, when even you yourself have just admitted otherwise.
16. to #15 please count the tractor stamped
ghostq   (06.23.09)

17. Not right, left, or center. Try to understand
adam eliyahu ,   Bat Ayin   (06.23.09)
I was very fortunate to get to know Eliyahu Maclean in a forum in which I was held up, rightfully or not, as a "hardcore right wing fanatic". Peoploe watched fearfully as Eliyahu and I got to know each other. I can't speak for all of the participants however Eliyahu is entirely apolitical, outside and untouched by "processes". I am rigth wind, though I beieve that is vastly misunderstood. I am vehemently anti-left. I am, unfortunately, overworked and underpaid. If I had the time, I would proudly stand with Eliyahu and his friends (Jewish, Christian, and Moslem) to pray for ana ge of redemption.
18. to 317 you right you r completely misunderstood.
ghostq   (06.23.09)
19. to Observer and ghostq
Wildmandxb ,   M.E.   (06.24.09)
Observer, well said and described pal, you are a perfect representation of someone who can properly list facts of history. On the other hand, look at you, ghostq, look at the way you try to debate a delicate issue as this one, you have no facts to refer to, all what you mentioned is a pure collection of fictitious zionist theories, fabricated by your terrorist zionist leaders (the haganah were named terrorists by the british if you didn't know by the way) just to cover for the atrocities they have commited against the helpless palestinians in 1948.
20. Crikey!!!! isn't that Jesus in the second picture down?

22. Some of this comments...
Anna ,   Be'er Sheva, Israel   (06.24.09)
Whenever I see a comment by this "observer" dude (dudette?) I know I'm going to read something retarded. I don't even understand why people are answering to this. This is the type of person that strives on conflict. On another note: why wasn't the event advertised? I'm not from Jerusalem, but I would have come :)
23. #10
israeli ,   israel   (06.28.09)
All of those happened because the Arab refusal to accept the partition plan offered by the UN and declared war on the nascent State of Israel. All of those were done in defense. Everything that was done in 1948 was acceptable and common practice in the entire world at the time. So what's your point? That Israel acted legally in its defense? And by the way, why no word on what the Arabs (the only Palestinians at the time were the Jewish inhabitants of Palestine, the Arabs were just Arabs) did to the Jews prior to April 2nd? And since you mention Deir Yassin, I would like to remind you that Iraqi soldiers dressed up as women and hid among women and children (brave heroes as always Arab warriors are) and opened fire on the Irgun members after the main force had surrendered. The Irgun returned fire. Can't blame them, can you. A team of researchers from the Bir-Zeit University determined that there was no massacre at Deir Yassin.
24. #23 Einstein said: not acceptable, not common practice
observer   (06.29.09)
Much of the financial support for these Jewish terrorists came from the United States. The Stern Gang received money collected under the more perfidious name, American Friends of the Fighters for the Freedom of Israel. Mr. Shepard Rifkin was the executive director after the UN Partition of Palestine and prior to the creation of Israel in May 1948. Against his better judgment Rifkin solicited Albert Einstein to help the Stern Gang raise American money for arms to drive out the Arabs and help create a Jewish state. On April 10th, the day after the infamous massacre of Arabs at Deir Yassin, Einstein replied calling the Stern Gang terrorists and misled criminals. In his letter to the New York Times on December 4,1948, Einstein wrote: A shocking example was their behavior in the Arab village of Deir Yassin. This village, off the main roads and surrounded by Jewish lands, had taken no part in the war, and had even fought off Arab bands who wanted to use the village as their base. On April 9 (THE NEW YORK TIMES), terrorist bands attacked this peaceful village, which was not a military objective in the fighting, killed most of its inhabitants; 240 men, women, and children; and kept a few of them alive to parade as captives through the streets of Jerusalem. Most of the Jewish community was horrified at the deed, and the Jewish Agency sent a telegram of apology to King Abdullah of Trans-Jordan. But the terrorists, far from being ashamed of their act, were proud of this massacre, publicized it widely, and invited all the foreign correspondents present in the country to view the heaped corpses and the general havoc at Deir Yassin.
