I'm not sure if I believe this, but for the sake of argument: Iran has a long and proud history going back to Biblical times. For many centuries before and after Mohammad, Persia ruled the Middle East, including the Jews AND the Arabs. Ancient dreams die hard in the Middle East. Could Israel be a pawn in the dream of restored Persian dominance over the Arab lands, as much as it would be a desired colony itself? The Revolutionary Guard now seem in charge, and those are the guys who fought and lost a war in Iraq to export the Khomeini Revolution to Arab soil. Perhaps they want a second chance? A threat to destroy Israel is effectively a threat against Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Syria, etc. Again, this sounds too fantastic to believe. But ditto for Pearl Harbor on Dec. 6, Nine-Eleven on Sept. 10, etc. It's probably not the case -- but again, Biblical-era dreams and Mohammad-era dreams die hard amidst the Persians, as well as with the Arabs AND the Jews. If you're going to rattle your cage in front of your computer, at least make an effort to learn the historical facts. Israel has been involved in several wars, all started by Arab aggression, including the War in Gaza (9000 kassams and bombs preceded Israel's response). The Yom Kippur, not Kupper war was another example as was the War of Independence in '48 when seven Arab countries and militias attacked Israel. The Iranian Regime feeds the same propaganda and cliches to the Iranian people so the Regime can continue their Jihad against the west. Israel has become an example of success in the mideast. Their land is coveted. Iran desires the success Israel has achieved but is unable to obtain it in the present form of government. So they therefore choose to hate what they cant have.

It seems if the Muslims wish for everyone to embrace Islam, they would be better neighbors to the world. It would seem that help in the way of economics would be a better choice over the hate messages that Iran chooses to send to the West. Don't they get tired of war and killing under the name of God?

I dunno, it seems a little to convenient to argue "Iranian leadership doesn't like new stuff, and the west represents new stuff. So it is going to war with the west". Firstly Iran repeatedly has shown a desire to compete in the domains of sci/tech, secondly Iran has offered to HELP the US at the onset of the Iraq war. I've always wondered what exactly Iran has against Israel, as the 2 have never had any armed conflicts, as far as I know. In my humble opinion perhaps the reason is Iran not only not being Arab nor a Sunni nation like the majority of the middle east Arab states, wants to be the dominant country in the mid east, and they believe being the most anti-Israel country in the region will help them attain that end. Even though Saddam Hussein was a tyrant he kept Iran in check, now that he's gone Iran's influence and boldness has increased.
