1. whhhhhhat? that parking lot was
the compromise, it was suppose to be a parking lot in the middle of the orthodox neighbourhood, but the mayor decided to open other parking lot far away from the religious neighbourhood, so nothing can be done thos freeloaders can put a sock in it cause they won't get away with their violence that easily. let's send them to Iran there they can feel at home.

5. English phrasing or simple logic often
confused in this article. Required some editing. Nonetheless, from what I could understand, it's the first time I've read anything where the Charedi were challenged or threatened by secular events and actually made a civil attempt to explain themselves. More of this is needed because, as I've written previously, too often the Charedi remain in their shells in Mea She'arim, refusing to communicate with the less orthodox and, as a result, appear to look down upon other Jews. This should never be the case. In fact, in some instances such as the Lubavitchers, who always extend themselves, and the Bratzlevers, who appeal to the most distraught members of society, this is not the case but they are the exceptions in the Chassidic world. I think the Baal Shem Tov would have disapproved of the seeming arrogance of the other sects, all of whom sprung from his root. At any rate, let's have more communication but with better editing.

6. The principal
We non-Haredi Israelis are simply sick and tired of supporting and militarily defending a group who not only lives off our work but who also tries to tell us how to live our lives. The Haredi cult is the worst thing that has happened to Judaism in many years. My advice is for the Haredim to get real jobs and then they'll be too tired to make trouble.

7. Dudy Zilberslag has such a kind face!
But he's very naive. From the good and the bad, it's human nature to concentrate on the bad. And these people aren't just bad. They are rotten to the very core of their being. I want to add that I respect the haredim who had a calm word to protest their anger, then went quietly and peacefully home.
The car lot isn't near a Haredi neighbourhood. That was showing understanding from the get-go. So what are we to understand from their disgusting and vile behaviour of late? That all parking lots should be closed on Shabbat? Why? What about the people who want to visit Jerusalem on Shabbat? And, I have to add, has every right to do so?
Again, Jerusalem belongs to every Jew who lives in this country, not just to them. It's clearly more precious and respected by seculars - recent haredi behaviour confirms that.

8. the question
the question is
Why are people using the parking lot?
there is no other parking?
they are visiting the city- is that forbidden?
They might visit their old parents- is this wrong?
Are people coming to town to party and make noise?
Concessions, yes- on both sides.
The writer wants Israel- and Jerusalem, to go back to the 'old days'? Nobody can or should have to go back in time.... we are not living in biblical ancient times anymore- with modern amenities comes modern transportation, modern tools etc.....adapting is the way of survival-

9. #6 your words are not fair.
I am non Haredi Jew but I can only tell you all the Haredi I meet are nice and caring individuals. A lot of them do work especially the women. There are plenty of secular Jews that live off the Israeli system. Its important for all Jews to get a long and be kind to one another especially with using their words.

12. What rubbish bring on the civil war
What is all this political correctness. is it worth it to park in Jerusalem on a saturday ? Damm right it is. With these people you give them an inch they take a mile. Why should we make peace with people who hate us, influct their lifestyle on non belivers , judge, slander and incite violence in the name of religion.? Bring on the war between secular and religious i for one cant wait .
Time to send them to Tehran where they can enjoy their life style.

14. Jerusalem for all, not just haredim
Jerusalem must be for all. The writer should be talking to the rioters, not to us. Who are the haredi rioters if not the shock troops that help provide a screen for the less willing to riot? See Orthodox Rabbi Donniel Hartman's "open letter" to the haredim: http://hartman.org.il/Opinion_C_View_Eng.asp?Article_Id=365 also in Hebrew on the main Ynet (they didn't translate it): http://www.ynet.co.il/articles/0,7340,L-3735750,00.html

The day will come when all decent free thinking people will get up and fight for their freedom and democracy, and i for one cant wait untill that day comes. Enough is enough from the fanatical freeloders who bite the hand that feeds them.
Time to crush them once and for all.
They want war and we give them war.

20. To #9
Yes, the women work in order to support the leeches that their husband are. The men don't work, only "study" a useless endeavor and take bituach leumi and welfare from the taxpaying Israelis who work and are not for all purposes gigolos. The women must work and take care of the house while these useless men don't do a thing (I dn't count their mulmulim as anything worthwhile, even in th eyes of God). This is a sick community which has no business trying to impose their medieval ways on others. They also shouldn't get any money from the state until they go to the army and work.

21. To the Turk - let's not
Jerusalem should not be divided. It's the capital of the Jewish People alone but others are welcome to dwell there.

22. Hareidi leadeship needs to condemn violence
The problem here is that the Haredi leadership has not done enough to openly, uniformly and loudly condemn violence. The prayer meet and other non-violent forms of protest are legitamite and are a part of a democratic society (right to assemble plus right to free speech) but violent protest is counter-productive, illegal and illegitimate.
Moreover, if you lash out violently over every stupid thing that comes your way you end up making violence profane. Violence is legitimate in one situation only: self-defense. If you display violence at every thing that bothers you, you end up losing your right to self-defense.

23. Ridiculous
Electric company is open on Shabbat, the Police, Fire, Medical, Hospital, Kiosk, Cafes, Restaurants, Water, Sewage, Gas, Security mmm what else? All of these are sanctioned by the government to be open every day of the week and we do not see protests by the religious community, was it really the conduct of the press release and interviews as this man claims?
This religious man who calls for 'peaceable coexistence' is lives in a fantasy world, we can all see where religious fanaticism leads if left untamed. Piece by piece they will take over until they are the majority and then we will see how 'silent' and 'respectful' they are.

24. #15 and #17
Threaten war all you'd like, you will lose. You have no chance of removing the religious character from Jerusalem. The city's fame and fortune is a result of its religious significance, and by challenging its religious character you are only guaranteeing defeat and shame for yourselves and your families.

25. #24 Netanel - oh i dont think so
The day will come the 'Praise the lord crowd" have gone to far. We will not sit back while they turn Israel in to a jewish version of Iran. They are the true enemy. They have declared war and we will give them war. Jerusalem will become the capital of Palestine and the Charideem will pay the price.

26. Parking Lot 4 Shabbos
We hope that opening up a parking lot for 450 cars will free us and enable 4500 cars to come to the capital on Shabbos. Yes- this was the opening of our freedom from religious tyranny that has suffocated us.

30. #2 Atilla
Your call for the division of the Holy City where the G-d of Avraham, Yetz'hak and Ya'cob has put His Name is nothing less than a declaration of war on El Shaddai. I would not want to be in your shoes.
You better run to your god Ba'al (allah) and hope he has some power to save you. But, on second thought you would be better off to run to a snake. Once again I am mistaken, allah is a snake (nahash) whose head will shortly be bruised.
