Haredim to police: Nazis, burn in hell    Ronen Medzini
1. according to this logic
the haredi protestors are also violating the shabbat, so this means they will die too? interesting.

2. EVERYBODY WILL DIE ONE DAY
Lawrence ,   lala land   (07.04.09)
3. dispersing violent demonstrators
Use a water canon, it has the added benefit of cooling them down and they get a free shower :-).
peter ,   amsterdam NL   (07.04.09)
4. excuse me?
"the 'Shabbat desecrators' will die...." and who is protesting and rioting on Shabbat?- And the rabbis are marching along? Hope the police is taking lots of photos- to identify the "desecrators" - and bring them to justice.

5. thieves!, basically, Jesusalem IS strange land, NOT homeland
More than 2,000 years ago, long before the fall of the second temple in Jerusalem in AD 70, the Jewish philosopher Philo of Alexandria addressed this very question. "Homeland", patris, was one's place of birth and education. There was Jewish pilgrimage to the temple at Jerusalem, but this meant reluctantly abandoning patris to visit what Philo called not "homeland", but a "strange land". Texts which speak of reverence for the patris make no mention of the Return as a goal. Jewish settlements abroad were often characterized as apoikiai (colonies), usually offshoots from the metropolis. Jerusalem remained the mother city, but Colony had a ring of pride and accomplishments, signaling the spread of faith and its adherents. They considered the holy city as their metropolis, but states in which they were born and raised and which they acquired from their fathers, grandfathers and distant forefathers they adjudged their patrides. That fervent expression eradicates any doctrine of Return. Diaspora Jews, in Philo's formulation, held a fierce attachment to the adopted land of their ancestors.

6. I am so ashamed
to live in a country where events like this take place, where folks like this live. I feel that Zionism and the efforts of our Founding Fathers, and the efforts of those who plowed the fields of this land, who built the roads and formed The IDF, are being hijacked. I equate this to treason. I am so, so sad.
Sagi ,   Israel   (07.04.09)
7. Haridim have no respect for the commandments.
Keeping the Sabbath is not TRYING to kill by throwing stones. Or do they ignore Respect their neighbour, or You shall not kill? Stones Kill. King David prooved that. They also do not respect Israel. I can never understand why they live here if we are not supposed to be here? Such a mixed up bunch of zealots.
Vicky ,   Ashkelon Israel   (07.04.09)
8. Strange
I'm no scholar of Judaism, but... Getting all hot and bothered on Shabbat really makes these Haredim gentlemen violators of the Sabbath as well, no?
Muslim ,   Britain   (07.04.09)
9. Aren't the Haredi cult the shabbat desecrators?
Only the so-called religious would say some thing like: 'Shabbat desecrators will die'
LarryT ,   K. Sava   (07.04.09)
10. Arrest the ring leaders - the community Rabbis
As the Rabbis have put their names on this incitement there should be no problem with an indictment. Let them spend Shabbat in jail. There is no legitimate reason for these riots, they must follow the rules of law just like everyone. A And they need to work with their representatives on the city council who approved this deal for them in the first place.
Eric ,   Tel Aviv   (07.04.09)
11. #6 Why open a parking lot on shabbatt?
I am not religious, but i can see that his is clear provocation! Sagi, your hatred of the religious is sickening! In fact its sad and pathetic! There is always 2 sides to the story, but you will attack the Haradim at any given chance. Why do they open a parking lot on Shabbat in a religious area? Just to provoke the Haradim? Is a stupid parking lot that important?
freejay333 ,   ISrael   (07.04.09)

Were you ashamed when the bullodzer drove Jews out of their land and homes for moslem rockets and terrorist infested Hamastan in return ? When the crook pollitician Olmert smashed heads in Amona to please his god, the burnt Bush in Washington ? What about their treason and the fact that there is no accountability with this treacherous government ?
Marcel ,   Florida   (07.04.09)

16. The Islamic haredim
While Allah's laments on his scourge,i.e. Ahmadinejad, the Ayatollahs, the Mullahs, and more, Our scourge is right here, in the street of Jerusalem, fighting the police ( on the Sabbath, what the hell ) with rocks, sticks, burning garbage (textbook specialty), in order to impose their will. -- As parasite par excellence, THEY just received a few more Millions from our not so glorious Govt., so they can continue their STUDIES ??

17. SEPERATION OF STATE AND RELIGION !
Seperation of State and Religion and a Constitution is the only solution to enemies of democracy !!! This is terror within the state and those people have to be punished by law for their terroristic behaviour! A state who verbids buses on shabat, civil marriage etc recieves its bill....

22. #11 freejay its called freedom and democracy
Why open a parking lot in Jerusalem on saturday? well first Jerusalem is the capital of Israel and that includes all Israelis. Secondly the parking lot in question is not in an ultra orthadox area. if the city council give in once again whats next? will they be throwing bricks through windows of resturants? will they be bringing ther violent campaign to Tel aviv. Sorry my friend but the decent law obiding citizens of this country have had enough of being dictated to by the angry mob, the very same people that bite the hand that feeds them , who dont work, dont pay taxes and dont serve in the army and then deny others their personal freedom and democracy.
Avi ,   Rannana   (07.04.09)
23. provocation my behind!
I am a Yerushalmi! I was born in Jerusalem! I currently reside in London but Jerusalem was my birthplace and home, and I believe in a couple of years it will be again. I see no justification for these actions. This is a continuation of the provocations by the ultra-religious. First they closed off the roads on Shabbat, then they (overgeneralizing of course) created thug squads to beat women on buses in mea she'arim for sitting in the front. This is all part of the same problem.. that they think they own Jerusalem and have an automatic right to morality in it. This is false, it is a lie. Jerusalem is not theirs to be provoked within, it is for all Jerusalemites. Here in London there are LOTS of ultra orthodox. They don't go ape every time a car is driven on Shabbat. They are much more respectful and therefore they are more moral and sympathetic to others than the ones in mea sher'arim who have spent their lives disconnecting from the rest of humanity. Don't let them fool you about provocation this and shabbat that, this is about power and control. What Jerusalem has become is increasingly militant, not increasingly religious. Make sure you spot the difference when you read the news.

26. Hell!, the Orthodox has religion other than Judaism,
because there is NO hell in Judaism.

27. Please don't call them "ultra-orthodox" -- it's an insult!
Real observant Jews observe all the laws, they simply work for a living and don't insult other Jews. Don't dignify these Heredi cultists as "ultra-orthodox." They are just uniformed parasites.
Scott ,   USA   (07.04.09)
28. Jews dont even keep the ten commandments!?!
I think its the Israelis who should be ashamed! As a christian I am shocked that the Jewish state should be publicly desecrating the ten commandments!! Shame on Israel. kudos to the ppl who will stand up for the ten commandments.
victor ,   newyork usa   (07.04.09)
29. Well, I was born here, so this is my motherland
The motherland of a Palestinian who was born in, let's say, Lebanon is Lebanon. All according to your logic.
