Haredim to police: Nazis, burn in hell    Ronen Medzini

in Yiddish they "wish" : Di zolst brennen in gehenem [ be burnt in hell ] go to watch your puppets , that's for your level .

32. Misleading Headline... Typical leftist double-standards
...YNet, please stop demonising an entire population sector. For a start, the "Eida Chareidit" - a FRINGE group - is behind these protests, not "all Chareidim." Secondly, the language in the title itself is quite clearly meant to incite people using the kind of cheap sensationalism so typical of the Israeli left-wing media. Why didn't you publish a headline during the Acco riots saying: "Arabs: "Death to the Jews!" since that was what the Arab rioters were quite clearly shouting...? I smell leftist double-standards...

35. Thousands or hundred?
"Thousands of ultra-Orthodox rioters hurl stones at security forces...." The Jerusalem Post reported "hundreds". Either way is bad enough but let's have a little responsible reporting, or is that too much to ask of YNet?

41. #6--Sagi
I, too, feel a sense of shame (but as a Jew who made Aliyah). You put it eloquently. Several Talkbackers have berated you without taking the time to understand your comments. You are not against Charedim and certainly did not express any mindset against them but you sadly indicated how shameful their behaviour has been and what a disgrace this is when considering the struggles and philosophies of our founding fathers. Thank goodness the Charedim are starting to join the IDF or otherwise doing national service. In a way, it's a Mitzvah that Madoff & Company have made it impossible to depend on charity from abroad. Now many Charedim have to work and, in order to do that, must have a certain level of a modern education. Perhaps all these dynamics will put them more in touch with life outside Mea She'arim. In the European shtetls of yesteryear, the ordinary village rabbi would work at a regular job and lead his people. By working, he came to an understanding of the problems of the people he worked on behalf of. Today, many (not all) rabbis are well paid and their duties are rabbinical in nature only. They do not have to work outside their religious confines and, as a result, are out of touch with the rest of us. In general, the Charedim tend to isolate themselves and, as a result, do not comprehend why people dismiss or otherwise dislike them. They appear to be pompous and self-righteous. Their protests and the nature of their protests on Shabbat re parking for automobiles comes across badly to the rest of us when what is needed is a show of solidarity with the rest of the Jewish population of Israel, especially during these perilous times. It appears that they have shut themselves off from the huge threats from without not to mention the continuous threats from within. They have created a fantasyland called "Mea She'arim" in which they go about isolated from the rest of our nation instead of performing good works for Israel (the Lubavitchers and Bratzlevers excepted). Calling our police forces (the very same people who provide security and protect them) "Nazis" and "antisemites" is egregious. Althogh I try to understand them and have always been treated well, or at least as a non-problem, when visiting in Mea She'arim, I admit to losing my patience even while recognizing the crises and changes taking place within their subculture. And lastly, I thank you, Sagi, once again for your concise and telling commentary.

42. it is hight time to act
Here we are again, the Rabbis need to be taken to task just hose them with water and if the protest is illegal lock them up. Bottom line Israel is a democracy and in a democracy if you want to drive you should be able to drive, the problem politics they percentage of religious and there parties control certain segments of the government, as long they have a hand in governing they will try to enforce their views like the far right in the states with abortion and gay rights. It is a leach who would live on your blood.

44. Lock them up
Why this rabbi (in the photo) with a white beard clinching his fist at the police office? Is he threatening the police officer? If yes he should be locked up.

45. Obama is right and the left..read why..
The left wingers are right according to their ideology that you may desecrate shabbos they might be right that The Jews have no claim to Israel the country has no right to exist if we violate the Torah because it is only the Torah that gives us any claim to this holy land.
Steve ,   Jerusalem   (07.04.09)
46. trouble
Why make trouble at a time like this. Leave jerusalem to the ultraorthodox to live in peace .They are fighting vigorously to maintain the ancient ways and the adulteres and shabbas breakers are ruining the great reminders of our tough but righteous faith. Jeusalem for the religious tel-aviv and haifa for the secular .
Yitzchak   (07.05.09)
47. You are so ashamed?
You are ashamed? I am ashamed of your comments! Torah observance ensures the survival of the Jewish people. If you feel the actions of those who are trying to protect our values are shameful, then I am afraid that you are the one who is practicing treason. As far as I am concerned, our founding fathers are Avrohom Yitzchak and Yaakov - certainly not Herzl, Ben Gurion, or Weitzman. Let us unite together to vehemently protest against the desecration of Shabbos - let us work together lehagdil Torah ulehadirah. This is the only formula that will ensure our survival in Eretz Yisrael
YMK ,   Jerusalem   (07.05.09)
48. Expulsion
Rather than keep expelling the Jews who are in Judah and Sameria who are peaceful and doing something useful for the State of Israel and the Jewish people expel these low lifes who contribute nothing and want everything

49. Our version of the Taliban
These Haredi rioters are the Jewish version of the Taliban and the Iranian mullahs. They riot because they want to force their extreme views on others. These religious fanatics are trying to turn Israel into a theocracy, and they have no respect for anyone else. If they had any decency, they would try and deal with these issues in a civilized, non-violent manner. Throwing stones at people does not help their cause, it only lowers them to the level of the Palestinians. These people are an embarrassment to Judaism. Its about time that the Israeli Government did something about it. For starters, how about forcing Haredim to join the army at age 18? Everyone else has to do it. Why shouldn't they? The IDF has special programs for religious Jews (e.g. Netzah Yehuda) so that they can serve in a manner that does not conflict with their lifestyle, so they really have no good excuse for not serving. Maybe if they serve their country, they will learn some respect. Its about time that the state told these people that from now on, they will not receive welfare if they choose not to get a job. It is unfair that they can do 'religious study' all day, without working, and the taxpayers have to subsidize it. If they don't want to get a job, then the taxpayer should not have to fund their lives. Now, with regard to the riots, the government should crack down. The leaders of the Haredim should be given one chance to stop the riots. If the riots are not stopped, the PM should impose a martial law in the area, and have the army bring an end to the riots. The rest of the population has put up with this crap from Ultra-Orthodox extremists for long enough. It is time to put a stop to this rubbish.

50. I note with interest that the photograph
of the demonstration shown above the written article not only has a person with a clenched, menacing fist but nearly all the people in line and in back of them appear to be wearing the distinctive fur hats which are similar to those worn by the Satmarers and, in general, the Edah Haredit. These are the same people who refuse to recognize the state of Israel and certainly refuse to join the IDF. There is something disturbing about them protesting against an official order of government (local) when they refuse to accept that selfsame authority. It appears to me that Israel has allowed them too much freedom to do as they wish without imposing the basic responsibilities of citizenship. We have also allowed this with the Palestinian Arab population. Avigdor Lieberman ran (partially) on the principle of "no national insurance without national service". This indicated that all citizens would be required to return support to the state just as they (the citizens) are supported. The Edah Haredit are not only malingerers in that regard but the photos indicate that they want power but without any responsibility. We expect this with children and, to some extent, with adolescents, but why do we treat the Edah Haredit as children or adolescents? This is not good for the nation as a whole.

51. #14 Talk about shame? You hypocrit! When Obama got elected
were you not ashamed being a so called Christian? Did you rally for the conservative movement during the elections? Did you go to the churches in your area and talk to them like you do to us about the evils of electing someone who wants to give the Pals our Hoy City of Yerushiliam as their capital? Did you write any newspaper articles,go on local radio stations, pass out flyers, write letters to your senators or congressmen expressing your deep felt concerns??? What was that?? No you say? Oh I see, you just thought it would be better to spew out your verbal diarhea to US on a daily basis. Talk about crooked politicians! What about your Barney Franks & Chris Dodd who just bulldozed your whole damn economic system right into the sewer? Were you sounding off the alarms to help others in your country against them? What? No you say?? Your dollar is worth next to nothing now and our monetary system is growing strong thank you very much. You see, you "say" this is what you have been called to do? And yet there is no love, hope, or even a hint of a plan on the daily qassams that you lob over to us. Because all your words are clothed and covered in hate. We are the chosen people by Hashem. We are the land that HE(not you) will take care of. And you, well you should pray that he, and we forgive you for your hatred and disgust of us.

53. They are more than right....
I am a very secular jew, in Tel Aviv. While the haredim were observing shabbat, I was cooking and running to a grocery store open on shabbat to put together a family dinner for the fourth. At the same time, I didnt go take a drive through Bnei Brak, because I respect the choices that people make about how they wish to observe. If a house of prostitution opened in my neighborhood, I would respond with much more than rocks. Doing business on shabbat is really no different to the ovservant. I side with those whose neiborhood was violated. Perhaps you would like crack sold in yours?

54. they were here first
For every one who says that the Haradis should leave if they don't like the state and its bible trampling agenda; remember some of your history. The Haradis were here long before the Zionists came or Zionism was even thought of. So who should leave if they don't like whats going on? its the irreligious anti tora/bible ppl who should go. For all the liberalism you claim to have its scary to read all the post of liberal minded Israelis calling for the deporting or killing of Haradis and calling Haradis parasites. Who is the real extremist?? who is the open minded one?? not the secular- they cant stand ppl who disagree with them. and they can preach about the Haridis being close minded and backwords?!? Take a look in the mirror. You want to remove someone from their country b/c you don't agree with them!??? As for the person who says there is no hell in Judaism- totally not true. All classic Judaism believes in hell. If you want to create your own religion that has no hell take a new name for it. Judaism has meant the same thing for over three thousand years so you are the one looking to change it and to force it down ppls throats. Maybe the fact that you think there is no hell is why you are not keeping the sabbath. Youre mistaken all authentic Judaism believes in hell. Not in the same way Christians do- we don't believe its everlasting but there is hell. look it up in Hebrew its called among other names gehinom As for the Haradis saying the desecrates of sabbath will die- they are quoting the verse Exodus 31:14 that states those who desecrate it [sabbath] will surely die. An interesting note: all the clames about the Haradis- they are parisites, non welcome in the society etc. they are all exact parallels to the claims made by non Jews about Jews as a whole through out history. so its not such a stretch to call such ppl nazis One last thing. #6 you clearly are not a scholar b/c you are wrong. It is very clear what is considered a desecration of sabbath and getting "hot and bothered" is not one of them like #28 said how can it be that Jews wont even keep the ten commandments.

57. TO YNET
you have really done yourselves proud this time "Haredim to police: Nazis, burn in hell" out of the supposedly 4000 charedim that were there do u think that they all chanted nazis....... maybe 50 people does that cast judgment on all 4000?? Also compared to last weeks demonstartion it was much more peacful (properly because the police we well ready) however because again under 50 people threw rocks does that condemn all the people living in meah sheraim? This site has alot of anti semitsm not just against charedim but against judaism! (most of you are against you own religion but it really pains me to say this but i guess you are just jewish by default) Whats the difference between yourselves and a gentile??? Being Jewish does not mean you have to make aliyah or support a country? If a country has no respect for its own religion then 'hamidinat yisrael' is simply NOT a jewish state BUT its an Israeli state!

58. DISHonest Reporting??????
Headline - Thousands throw stones???? Later it says only a few threw stones, but thousands came to demonstrate - COME ON - what is this about????? Hareidi Bashing all over again! Get your words right! In China K 'ung— fu—Tzu a.k.a. Confucius put it in his Analects XIII.3 as follows — ...if names are not correct, language will not be in accordance with the truth of things and with time this will lead to the end of Justice, to anarchy and to war

59. #31 Jews who accept Jesus are going to hell,
Orthodox Jew said: We do not believe in eternal Hell, nor do we believe in Hell as a sure thing. Rather, a person is born intrinsically good, and therefore a baby that dies goes straight to Heaven. If a person sins, he goes to Hell for his punishment, after which he goes to Heaven (hopefully after not too long...) There were a few people who were so awful, that they were denied Heaven, but that is an extremely rare thing to happen. >>Their Rabbis will make sure that they have the shortest stay, except for one person called Charles from Petach Tikva

60. This is a ridiculous manipulation...
Mr. Barkat the mayor of Jerusalem is a registered Likudnik, he is using everyone to his advantage by promoting hatred amongst religious and secular Jewish residents of Jerusalem instead of working on resolving the city's problems he is focused on fomenting more and more hatred, (this is how he won the election remember?) ...and we the Jewish residents of Jerusalem are falling for his ploy. How is it that the religious residents are out there throwing stones instead of observing the Holy Shabbat? How is it that the secular residents are busy insulting the religious residents of the city because they can't easily drive and park near the old city so that they (the secular residents) can go be tolerant...shop and eat in the Old City at stores run by the Arab residents of the city? (By the way the very Arab residents that Mr. Barkat seeks to permentantly disenfranchise!) The point that we are all missing is that Mr. Barkat is using all of us in order to achieve his own cynical political purposes! And we all of us residents of Jerusalem are falling into the palm of his greasy hand! Enough! Let religious brother rise up and embrace secular brother! Let secular brother rise up and embrace religious brother! Let's get together and teach Mr. Barkat what real religious tolerance and understanding is all about!
