3. WHAT IS THIS ???.
ORAO STRANKA. ,   TSARIGRAD U SRBIA.   (07.06.09)
IF IRAN SEES THE WAR COMING, THIS HAS NO IMPORTENCE- Moreover, according to foreign media reports, our submarines are capable of firing strategic cruise missiles at targets found roughly 1,500 kilometers away (about 950 miles.) According to these reports, these missiles can be armed with nuclear warheads. These submarines are classified as conventional, as they are powered by diesel fuel, yet if the foreign reports are accurate they possess operational capabilities only available to nuclear submarines deployed by global powers such as the US, Russia, Britain, and France. The Iranians are aware of these reports, and they may conclude that Israel is capable of hitting their cities and their nuclear program with a preventative strike or a “second strike” in a surprising manner and from unexpected directions. A “second strike” would be a destructive reprisal that Israel may direct at Iran, should Tehran strike first. IRAN HAS EVEN COUNTED WITH US COOPERATING WITH ISRAEL IN THE MILITARY STRIKE AGAINS IRAN, THEY ARE NOT AFRAID OF THIS. Orao.
4. Egypt needs Israel
Mike Morris ,   LA, USA   (07.06.09)
The Obama adminstration cannot and should not claim credit, as Mr Ben Yishai suggests. It is Egypt's understanding of the clear and present Iranian danger to its own regime, that has precipitated this cooperative development. And it will prosper.
5. Iran Not Afraid?
Robert ,   New Jersey, USA   (07.06.09)
You bet your boots Iran is afraid. Monkey President has been quite quiet the past few says, not boasting about his anti-submarine capability, North Korean ballistic missiles and Russian Iskander anti-aircraft missiles. Iran is cornered with few options and ferer allies. The chessboard - especially since the bogus re-election of the baboon - is very unfavorable for the masters of chess. They have lost nearly all their men and their remaining men are checkmated. They see the handwriting on the wall: no Arab country will come to their aid, opening up a second front. Nasrallah huddles in his bunker, silent. Syria has disappeared. IIf Israel attacks their nuke sites, Iran would not dare attack US interests, lest they draw the US into the fight. Iran is a poor match for Israel alone. Against the US, it is over before it begins. Their vaunted Revolutionary Guards will fold like a house of cards...just as Saddam's similarly vaunted personal army of the same name did in 2003, begging to surrender before oncoming US troops. Iran is out of options. It's patron North Korea doesn't dare send armaments for fear of interdiction, and Russia is checkmated because it knows it can't pay the political price of selling Iran arms while asking the US to stop deployment of missile defense in the EU. Attila, why Israel doesn't talk to a monkey? Israel doesn't talk to a despot who calls it a "Zionist Entity," then threatens it with annihilation. Orao, read the tea leaves. Your murderous regime IS quaking mightily. It's days are numbered.
6. of course the americans are happy
gh   (07.06.09)
they get to see the dollars they hand over by the billion every year hard at work sailing through the seas of the middle east.it is nice when you give free handouts every year with nothing in return and then get a glimpse of what the money is being used for.bravo "israel".bravo.
7. Obama's efforts had nothing to do with this
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, USA   (07.06.09)
This is hardly "proof" that US efforts at regional cooperation against Iran are "starting to bear fruit". But count on The One to claim credit.
8. gh Ignorance
James ,   Herzeliya   (07.06.09)
Those subs are a gift from Germany...
9. TALKBACK NUMBER 5.
ORAO STRANKA. ,   TSARIGRAD U SRBIA.   (07.06.09)
THERE IS A SAYING - "WAIT ANS SEE, SAID THE ENGLISHMAN, WAIT AND SEE" !!!. YOUR SPIRIT OF ACCUSATION WILL NOT WIN - Your murderous regime SEEMS TO ME YOU ARE IN A TERRIBLE ERROR, BUT I DO NOT LOVE TOU ENUFF TO TAKE YOU OUT OF IT. BY JERK. Orao.

12. Israel Needs To Be Building A Sub Base In Eilat
David H ,   Marietta USA   (07.06.09)
Officially, Egypt must allow all ships of all nations through the Suez Canal. Reality can be different, and so some of those subs need to be permanently based for early access into the Indian Ocean. Israel doesn't face too many naval enemies on the Mediterranean coast. I see no need for attacking Turkey, Greece or Italy. Tunisia, Libya, Morocco are also non threats. Somehow, I suspect the Israeli chief of naval operations understands the situation a bit better than I do, and will do what is needed. The idiot in the White House can take all the credit he wants. As long as the Iranians (and the Arabs) understand the reality of the situation.
13. oh bull....
eliezer ,   jerusalem   (07.06.09)
come on, 'sending a message' - really have you ever seen an arab tremble when Israel sent a message??? No one sent a message to Damascus...they did something...that was a message. What the Israelis are doing is stupid. It hasn't ever worked, it doesn't work and it won't work. But one thing for certain, the Israelis can fool themselves, but they can't fool anyone else..
14. #8 - a gift?
gh   (07.06.09)
israel bought the subs from germany in 2006 (germany did foot a third of the bill, so i guess theres another country keeping the cash pumping in who will be glad to see a return.amazing what guilt can do). and the US steps in with another huge portion of your overall budget for the military especially, so thats why it is always funny to read about "israel" footing any bill.
15. Roni!, her's 2 day old update
observer   (07.06.09)
On 07.04.9, A senior Egyptian security official on Saturday denied reports that an Israeli submarine had sailed the Suez Canal last month as part of a naval drill. "Egypt does not allow Israeli warships to enter our territory," Army Radio quoted the official as saying.
16. as usual from mr. Ron Ben-Yishai
Jalal ,   Gaza   (07.07.09)
any governmental move is historical any governmental resolution is genius r u work for them ??
17. #5 Thanks for the facts
John ,   Boise, Idaho, USA   (07.07.09)
It's about time someone came up with a little concrete understanding of the situation. Thank you #5. Iran, as has indicated here, has dug themselves into a hole and no one wants to pull them out. Even their own hardliners know this. As for #3 and #9, remember, it doesn't matter the least bit whether Iran is afraid or not afraid as they're infrastructure can easily be wiped out within 24hrs and would take them several years to rebuild. The targets are mapped out. This would reduce them to a third world status overnight. Have a nice day.
18. Wow!
Ariel Ben Yochanan ,   Kfar Tapuah, Efraim,   (07.08.09)
B"H - Ron Ben Yishai, Ynet's expert opinionist: "Israel’s three submarines were built for the Navy.. and were designed especially so that they can carry out various missions. The main mission is the detection and monitoring of vessels, as well as the ability to sink them if necessary." - ABY: Wow! I didn't know submarines do that. It's good to have an experts like Ben Yishai to open one's eyes on intricate military matters.
