1. Really. Umm. How many Jews does Egypt have? < 100.
Zvi   (07.10.09)
There were 80,000 until they were declared enemies of the state and ETHNICALLY CLEANSED AND EXPELLED (and robbed of all of their assets) in 1956, as penniless refugees. 35,000 fled to Israel, becoming refugees. 15,000 fled to Brazil, 10,000 to France, and so on. Be like Egypt? There would be no Arab Israelis left!
2. Mubarak is a despot, nothing more
Howie ,   Montreal, Canada   (07.10.09)
Egypt is an "open state"? Ya, right. Question: How many Jews live in Egypt out of Egypt's population of over 80 million? Answer: Less than 100 Jews in Egypt. So why is that? Because Egypt is tolerant of minorities and Jews? Not so much. Christian Copts are routinely beaten and murdered in Egypt by good Muslims. Mubarak is an evil man who trying to deceive the world and trying to annihilate the Jews in Israel. With friends like Mubarak, we don't need enemies. A plague on Mubarak. If you think Shalit is alive because Mubarak says so, you are sadly mistaken. When is the last time that Muslim terrorists returned a live Israeli Jew in return for live Arabic Muslim terrorist prisoners? They prefer to torture and kill the Jewish Israeli prisoners and return their dead desecrated bodies. That's the kind of animals we're dealing with. Nothing more than that.
3. The egyptian dictator forgot to add in the
jason white ,   afula,israel   (07.10.09)
end of the article. Most Jews fled for their lives from egypt. The Copts are discriminated against.
4. Free Gilad "at any price"?
Robert Bernier ,   Tel Aviv   (07.10.09)
If we take the facts of the past 24 years into account we can safely say that whoever demands to free Gilad "at any price" is actually sentencing him to death. I hope that I am wrong, but the real meaning of "any price" is that there is no price. The terrorists understand that time is on their side. The more cruel that they are, the more that they conceal information and even if they G-d forbid murder their captive and bargain for his body - the price that they will exact from Israel will only rise. 5. Mubarak
Margot ,   USA   (07.10.09)
You know, I believe that Mubarak has a point. Israel could still be a safe haven for the Jewish people, as well as their diverse population.... there may be truth in what he says. Many of the countries in Europe are openly anti-semitic, pretending concern for the Palestinian people, only because they oppose the Jews. No matter what the Jewish people do, some people will target them. It's scary.
6. No criminal thugs should be freed for Shalit. He should be
Avner   (07.10.09)
released without any preconditions, none what so ever! Gilad as abducted from sovereign Israeli soil while protecting Israeli citizens from the onslaught of the thugs of Hamas and Islamic Jihad. The Red Cross should have demanded to see him, now three years in captivity without having seen a single Red Cross personnel!!! The Arab League should have demanded Hamas to free him if it wishes to be dealt with respectfully by the rest of the international community. The United Nations should have dealt a blow to the PA - into whose territory he was taken - and to Hamas, presently the ruler of this territory, after having supported these people for the past 60 years!!! Enough with the cynicism of the world. Jews, you know, are human beings too and Jews, you know, also have human rights!!! Gilad Shalit is a Jewish man...
7. #6 Red Cross
Lisa   (07.10.09)
the Red Cross HAS DEMANDED to see Gilad many times- Hamas, the Palestinians are REfUSING to even talk to the Red Cross personnel- they don't even know where he is kept. what would you have them do? Drop a bomb? Short of using violence there is NOTHING the Red Cross can do- they could use blackmail of course, stoop to terrorist level and threaten NOT to visit Palestinians until Gilad can have visits- do YOU have a better idea? It is easy for all the keyboard diplomats and warriors to have brilliant ideas- Does Israel have an idea where he is? If it did they could have freed him a long time ago. As for UN and Arab League, yes they could have done something- however- no country in the world, except Israel will go to this length for ONE soldier- never has, never will. Freeing thousands of criminals in the hope to get one soldier back- Most countries have rules- never give in to terrorist demands: No money, no prisoners. I sympathize with the family, and Israeli people, but to blame the Red Cross is in this case not right.
8. #1-3 Arab Jews were seduced or forced by Zionists to leave
observer   (07.10.09)
Arab Jews were seduced or forced by Zionists to leave their homes, while the Palestinians were expelled by the same Zionists. Virtually entire Christian and Muslim population of Jerusalem was forcefully expelled from the Jewish occupation zone in 1948, while the Jews of Iraq, Morocco and Egypt enjoyed peace and prestige. The Jews do not allow any Muslim below age of 45 to pray in the Mosque of al Aqsa, they do not allow Christians of Bethlehem to celebrate Easter in Jerusalem and do not allow Christians of Jerusalem to celebrate Christmas in Bethlehem
9.  Gilad Shalit will return home soon
ale ,   Italia   (07.10.09)
so.... palestinians under torture(ILLEGALLY) in israelis jails will not return home... Gilad Shalit will return home soon... while palestinians are NOW in gaza like in a lager.....because israel make an illegal blocade.... Gilad Shalit will return home soon... while israelis dream is a country 4 jewish....discrimination, racism, and bibi'&liebermann....heroes that have a dream:"nuke on gaza" (illegally of course...but israel is israel....and illegally word isn't for jewish...they can.....)
10. I thought that the Islamic republic of Iran has Jews
Eric ,   Tel Aviv   (07.10.09)
If Iran can be called the Islamic republic of Iran and still have a population of Jews why can't Israel be a Jewish State with a population of Muslims and Christians and Bahai? Here they would be better treated than the Jews in Iran.
11. Gilad Schalit
DT ,   TA Israel   (07.10.09)
There should be a total black out on ALL news re Gilad Schalit. Arabs like to play with the emotions of GS supporters , raise their hopes and then dash them which is the sick mind of Islamic terror. What should you expect from child killers, users of civilians as human shields etc
12. #8 - Get your facts not fiction!
Ram ,   London   (07.10.09)
13. Gilad who?????
Marco ,   Spain   (07.10.09)
Does anyone know the name of one Palestinian hostage being held by Israel?
14. TALK DOESN'T DO IT!!!!
al mann ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (07.10.09)
Talk and talk and talk, and more talk. For everyday Schalit remains captive one terrorist should be lined up and shot. Schalit has been in captivity for over 1,000 days, therefore 1,000 convicted terrorists can be shot and relieve the citizenry of all the taxes it must pay to keep these people(?) alive. There would be no reason to raise taxes on fruits and vegetables and lower the amounts being paid by National insurance. Creativ e idea, no?
15. Arab Republic of Egypt!
Mark   (07.10.09)
That's the official name of Egypt. So what is so wrong with the "Jewish state of Israel"? Mubarak is so hypocritical. He just refuses to accept that Jews have a legitimate right to have a soveriegn state of their own.
16. Marco, #13
Chatich   (07.10.09)
Dear dumbass, Nobody knows the name of a 'palestinian' hostage being held by Israel, because there are no such hostages. Israel is a civilized nation, we do not take anybody hostage - that is what our depraved lunatic neighbors do. The 'palestinians' in our prisons are simply criminals, murderers and terror operatives, held captive for what they have done, not for who they are. Gilad is a hostage of the koranimals for the simple reason he is a Jew. If the hamassholes could kidnap more Jews (God forbid) they would not hesitate, be it a soldier a grandmother or a child. But if it makes you feel better, I'm sure at least one of the jailed 'palestinians' is named mohamed, lol.
17. 'in the mouths of babes..."
tom ,   toronto, canada   (07.10.09)
according to mubarak: "A Jewish state will become the target of all terrorists." why? are "all terrorists" committed to killing jews? what happened to the "struggle against occupation" - was this just a cover for their real purpose? and were the terrorist attacks of the last 60 years, in israel with its mixed population of dozens of different religions, just some kind of weird mistake? the idea that a multi-ethnic country is safe from terrorists doesn't seem to hold much water, either - lebanon has more than its share of terrorist attacks. and the presence of moslems doesn't seem to bother the terrorists. for example they have no problem with blowing up marketplaces and mosques in iraq, with no regard for denomination. it's ironic that mr mubarak should say this, in view of the fact that the egyptian security forces invented the PLO to be an instrument of the war to destroy israel. egypt has certainly come a long way from then, to this new position of concern for israel's safety in the face of arab terrorism, as exemplified by the same PLO. his concern for israel's safety is touching...
18. #15 is Israel going to expel Arab Jews?
observer   (07.10.09)
19. To Marco #13
Fran ,   Spain   (07.10.09)
As #16 said, there is no palestiniean hostage being held by Israel. It is just prisoners that have commited a crime and they are in jail. And as a difference to what Hamas terrorists do to israeli hostages, the people in israeli prisons can study, are fed, have good sanitary conditions and medical attention.
