1. Her child was a burden
Talula ,   Israel   (07.12.09)
So she drowned him. She should be slammed up and given a hysterectomy and NEVER be allowed to have another child. Personally, I'd get her on the first Aeroflot flight out of here and back to Russia. Feh! Evil Witch.
2. manslaughter?
Lisa   (07.12.09)
this woman needs help desperately- not prison but a mental institution-. A woman who has tried to commit suicide is NOT OK- what kind of a doctor is this?

That's all she ever wanted. To go back home for a long while with her child to her own surroundings and family and to get much needed support and help for her beautiful son. She probably would have coped there. She was dreadfully mismanaged here. All the signs were there and no one cared enough co ordinate any help for her. Each 'misrad' left it to the other one to solve. They were so bl...dy self righteous as they explained it was of course not their fault but 'yenem's' fault. The writing was on the wall but no one cared. She so much wanted to take her child back home. Her husband's family lived on top of her, had nothing in common with her or her european mentalilty. She was completely alone with her beautiful but mentally sick son. She probably wished to drown together with him. Her life is over as far as she's concerned I'm sure, and she probably wishes it was.

Talula, how terrible- the woman tried to commit suicide before, she wanted to drown herself AND her child. She is SICK- prison is NOT the place for her- she needs help. Somebody, her doctor, should have seen this- he is a quack- . It does not say anywhere that the court had her evaluated by a psychiatrist- why not? Something is very wrong here.
6. #1 Talula, You are very insensitive

May you never know mental illness

DO me a favour!! She was miserable??? That’s the excuse for holding her child's head underwater until he drowned? And you are saying it's OK? You are finding reasons to justify her murdering her child? Being depressed and 'miserable', in my world, doesn't even come close as an excuse to killing your own child – there is NEVER EVER a reason, motive or grounds for such a sickening and vile act. You can't cope? take the child to someone, ANYONE and walk away. Don't kill it! I don't care how unhappy, alone or miserable she was. She is a weak feeble and pathetic excuse for a mother. Her own husband said he and his family were supporting her. Couldn't have been that bad. I hope she sees her little boy’s face haunting her every single day for the rest of her useless, pointless life – just to make it even more miserable than it allegedly is today.
8. why did nobody diagnose post natal
vashDi ,   israel, holon   (07.12.09)
depression? it should not have got to the point of a dead child.
9. ok, this sounds like Anton Cekhov SLEEPY story.

10. They (the family) were NOT supporting her and yes
refuse to judge   (07.12.09)
they had no idea it was that bad. The mentality gap was just too great, and the language gap too. They all admitted this openly. I'm not excusing, and I'm not judging. She does and will see this beautiful face in front of her for the rest of her life,as she held his head under the water.... to end his suffering. They were one of the most beautiful 'mother and child' series of pictures, at home, at the beach, in the park I've ever seen, and they're haunting ME, so don't worry she's being haunted too till the end of her 'useless pointless life'. We here in our country botched it up and we were not there for her. She did plead for help. We said 'sorry madam, not me, try somewhere else.'...Not the first time, and probably... Too familiar, time and time again.I feel sorry for her that she didn't succeed in going with him. I bet she does too.
11. @10 kind person
Lisa   (07.12.09)
you are a kind person- I wish you had known this woman- you would have helped her. I read all the previous articles-and I am shocked that she is sentenced for manslaughter. This woman was abandoned by her family (who is now sorry- too late), the health system who was insufficient, and imcompetent- and the legal system who sees her as a murderer, instead of a mentally ill person- . This was a tragic chain of events- everything went wrong for this woman. I hope people will learn from this tragedy- .
12. One last point
could'vebeen avoided   (07.12.09)
This lovely child had the mental problems, and the authorities knew, and he was turned away from various kindergartens. Her husband's family had no idea as they had no means of communicating, and she kept it all inside her, without sharing her terrible situation. But the authorities did know.
13. #11 It was fortunate that I saw
@ lesson learnt   (07.12.09)
a tv documentary devoted to once so beautiful Olga and her equally beautiful little Alon. We must never ever assume that what we read in a few shortened, translated (and sadly, often biased) lines in these columns, is the whole and only truth. And on top of that , then proceed to pass judgement.
14. #12 authorities
Lisa   (07.12.09)
so you are saying the authorities wer aware of the problem, they did NOTHING: Now the court is sending the woman to jail- instead of helping her- one authority is a bad as the other!
15. #14 Hmmm, sounds much like the U.S. yes?Do you protest over
there as well?Or is ,   it only against Jews   (07.13.09)

Marilyn ,   USA   (07.13.09)
It's like there are some people not equiped to be parents and it's like I'm seeing it more and more often. There should be more counseling in the thinking about children stage. Only the people who really, really want to have children, that have had training enough on how to care for them, that have enough financially and that have a good support system in place should have children .It should not be a case in which everyone else doing so, or someone told me I should.
17. #15 why?
Lisa   (07.13.09)
why the States? yes it happens there too- to a lesser degree in Canada, hardly ever in Switzerland, more in Spain- if it is as scandalous as this case- yes I would write too- so would hundreds of other kind people. This should not have happened in a family and religion oriented country, anywhere- we are talking about a sick woman who was looking for help and did not get it- immigrant women often have problems because of the isolation and language barrier- . I suspect if this woman had not been a recent immigrant, this would not have happened- local people and authorities probably take more time and care with long time residents. I have worked with new immigrants- so I know.
18. #15 suspicion?
Lisa   (07.13.09)
I get the feeling you are hinting at anti-semitic feelings here- far from it- this is not against any race, color, religion whatsoever- believe me. Do you think I would feel less sorry if the woman was black or an Inuit, or Arab? I feel very sorry for the woman who was let down by her family- got no support from the health authorities and now, to make it even worse, is convicted as a murderer instead of getting counseling- she will get worse in jail- one of the three surely should have seen what was happening to her? Nobody cared? it is a tragic chain of events- yes it could have happened somewhere else too - I would have felt sorry. I responded to the person on this TB who condemned the woman outright- which was a cruel and stupid response.
