Lieberman: Abbas not really legitimate     Ynet
1. No Peace Possible With The Arabs
"Freeze your settlements", "Return the refugees", "Give us all the territories", etc., etc. Demand, demand, demand. Forget it. There is no chance that there will ever be "peace" with these guys. We have to come to the realization that nothing we do will bring us to peace with them. Might as well just develop the Shomron and Judah and fill it with millions of Jews.
Reuven Brauner ,   Raanana, Israel   (07.13.09)
2. What's wrong?
Lieberman is only stating what the whole world already knows.
Carl   (07.13.09)
3. Abbas is very "illegtimate" and a"nothing"
Lieberman tells it as it is and would not fudge the issues. Great pity he is not PM.
DT ,   TA Israel   (07.13.09)
4. Stall Tactics
Always an excuses and stall tactics! If Lieberman wants to argue semantics, I'd like to point out that Hamas won the last Palestinian election and are therefore the legitimate voice of the Palestinian people. (Israel forced that election as a precondition to starting the last round of peace talks but when they didn't like the outcome, they forced a joint Fatah/Hamas gov't.) How short our collective memories are; meanwhile, we are all being taken for a ride, again.
J ,   Tel Aviv   (07.13.09)
5. Lieberman
Every single day I say to myself that however I don't agree with Lieberman in many things, our government would be MUCH, MUCH better with more people like him in decision places. We must for once stand in our feet and just say no to all the people who want to impose their rule in our country.
Ricardo Macher ,   KarneiShomron-Israel   (07.13.09)
6. my friend liberman
all hail to mr liberman i respect you very much and wish you all the best i wish i can contact you and speak to you you represent the new face of israel and ask you not to meet with abbas at all he does not deserve your han shake you are the best all haill to you
jameel ,   gaza   (07.13.09)
7. Lieberman is jealous of Abbas
Abbas has been meeting Arab, European, and American leaders regularly. He was voted into office by democratic means. Lieberman is using Hamas' coup as an excuse and a means to smear Abbas and discredit him by any means. Lieberman, it's only your racist and thuggish comments that made you illegitimate, even in the eyes of your own Prime Minister who now prefers to send Ehud Barak to important international meetings. Who - then, is illegitimate? Surely it's the Moldovan Bouncer.
Nour ,   Palestine   (07.13.09)
8. Raw truth from Lieberman
... I just love it. Please keep it up, this model of diplomacy.
Juan ,   Spain   (07.13.09)
9. Thanks Avigdor for going straaight to the point
we support you and whole Israel !
Trumpeldor ,   eurabyiah   (07.13.09)
10. Note, nearly 62 years ago the UN voted to establish a Jewish
State. To this day Abbas and his colleagues refuse to recognize this decision. They refuse to recognize Israel's right to be, to exist as the nation-state of the Jewish people, based on both UN resolutions as well as on the basis of the universally accepted right of all peoples to national self-determination and independence. Since this is the case, on what basis can Israel come to terms, to an accommodation of peaceful coexistence with its Muslim-Arab neighbors who reject peaceful coexistence?
Amihai ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (07.13.09)
11. who is a diplomat?
Mr. Liebermann should ask that question. he might be telling it how it is- what everybody already KNOWS- but it is not diplomacy. A diplomat has to be able to tell the truth with hitting people over the head or insulting them....back to school?
Miri   (07.13.09)
12. @7
The only thing Liebermann could be jealous about Abbas, is Abbas personal account filled up with our EU Money in a Suisse bank.
Shaul ,   Berlin, Germany   (07.13.09)
13. #7 Just a personal attack on your part
Lieberman is on target. Nothing he said was racist or thuggish. Abbas has already stated he will not serve another term. So any agreement with him is a waste of time.
Cynthia ,   USA   (07.13.09)
14. #13 Old News...
Right, so Abbas is "irrelevent". Ring Ring! Sounds familiar. Arafat was irrelevent so a prime minister who was more "dovish" was necessary" Acra cadabra Abbas the yes-man pops into the picture and here we are again, Abbas is "powerless", irrelevant", illegitimate. Bloody hell man. If you can't actually see that it's Lieberman who is illegitimate and rightly considered so by every other leader in the world you must be deranged. Israel's solution is declare "no partner" (Aha..yeah - right) while it steals more land and violate EVERY SINGLE clause of Road Map it duly signed. We've heard it all before. This time it won't work, you will have to negotiate in good faith with Abbas otherwise the world will impose a solution and the grapevine says the UN might declare a Palestinian State on all areas occupied in '67. Take your pic, but be careful you're already cornered and no country in the damn world is sympathetic to your version of history.
Nour ,   Palestine   (07.13.09)
15. Lieberman!, speaking of legitimacy
People who go through US naturalization are required to state under oath that they are renouncing their old citizenship. Then, why do the American-Israeli keep secret that reciprocal renouncing when they acquire the Israeli citizenship? of course there are Israeli-Americans who served in the US army or CIA. The US State Department generally no longer minds that a citizen uses his old country's passport when traveling there to visit. But, does the US State Department does not mind if that person is recruited in that country's army? Current US law says that foreign military service will result in loss of US citizenship if the person served as an officer (commissioned or non-commissioned) or the foreign military force is engaged in hostilities against the US; the service was voluntary; and (most importantly) the person intended to give up his US citizenship. Unless a dual citizen is serving in a "policy level position" in a foreign government, commits treason against the US (e.g., by fighting the US voluntarily during wartime), or acts in a manner considered totally inconsistent with any possible intent to keep US citizenship. If you ask them if you ought to become a dual citizen, they will recommend against doing it; but if you tell them you are a dual citizen, they'll almost always say it's OK. While the Iraq War was waged on lies about Weapons of Mass Destruction and revenge for 911, the real reason has emerged as a well designed global plan to improve the power and leverage of Israel. Israel's lobby has exerted, forming a series of international policies which can be viewed as in direct opposition to the interests and security of the American people. US government appointees who hold powerful positions and who are dual American-Israeli citizens are the one who played a role more than carrying out those policies. America spends $3bn a year in largely military assistance - one-sixth of its direct aid budget - to help a prosperous, nuclear-armed country, and strongly backs Israel in negotiations on Middle East peace. the US gets remarkably little in return. Israel is vibrant democracy, they say, but also a regional giant ready to use its considerable firepower against civilians. do both the Israeli flag and American flag stand for democracy, freedom and human rights?

16. Its funny that Lieberman....
Should question the legitimacy of Abbas when he himself is not. Lieberman, why dont you pack your bags and get back to where the hell you came from. While at it, you can take back all the Ethiopians, Russians and other foreign Jews with you.
Marco ,   Spain   (07.13.09)
17. Look who is talking
He is maybe right about Abbas but how many Israelis does he represent? Is Israel´s occupation legitimate? This man will be bring the downfall of the present government sooner than anyone can imagine.
Haider ,   Gothenburg, Sweden   (07.13.09)
18. to #16 you r racist, got something against
africans? well the israely arabs don't like africans, the Ethiopians got the full right to live in Israel their home country, they run from muslems in Ethiopia who made their lives a living hell there. learn more facts, that will do you good. mmm reality speaks for itself.
ghostq   (07.13.09)
19. Although Lieberman
is disgusting neonazi and antisemite, he is, unfortunately, completely right in this case. Abbas´s mandate was gone in January 2009 and new elections were not in Palestine. So, there is, excepted Hamas, nobody with legitimacy for seroiusly legal negotiations.
Jane ,   Czech Republic   (07.13.09)
20. #18 ghostq
Do you know how stupid you sound ghostq? Just by refering to them as Ethiopians, you know that they dont belong in Palestine. In case you are too dum to realise it but unlike fake Israel, there is a Great nation with a proud past called Ethiopia, and those misguided people that you are exploiting for cheap labor in the false promise of a better life really belong in their true homeland. You only imported them for cheap labor, period. And the Russians were imported for prostitution.
Marco ,   Spain   (07.13.09)
21. Talk to Khalid Mashaal...he is 100% legitimate...
Don't waste your time with Fatah. Hamas is the true representative of the Palestinian people.
Eric ,   JHB SA   (07.13.09)
22. Abbass' official term has expired January 9th, 2009
and since there was no re-election in the Palestinian Authority he has not been re-elected to any office, therefore he at best represents himself, not even a half of so-called "Palestinian people". Those are cold facts, ladies and gentelmen...
mordechai ,   yerushalaim   (07.13.09)
23. At last an Israeli politician with B***S!!
Ram ,   London   (07.13.09)
24. #20 - Marco from Spain
Good day Marco. Often I see you post on this Zionist website and no one will fail to notice the zealousness in your postings. Like many of your compatriots and opposers of the Israeli/Jewish regime, you don't mince your words in expressing your negative sentiments towards this entity. We are all entitled to our feelings whatever they are. You Marco have a slight problem in this case. Your lack of subtlety has stigmatised you to the point where just by seeing your name one can predict what the content will be. This can prove to be quite a disadvantage as people will just brand you as an "anti-semite" and another "jew-hating arab" perhaps. To give your tuppence worth to this website why don't you try and engage in an open minded discussion with other posters here so you can use your proficient mode of communication towards achieving something positive at least. Israel is there to stay no matter what those who oppose its existense wish for. Over the years Israel has not only strengthened itself but at the same time managed to advance itself to world class status. It will not go away and certainly not by any threat from arabs or others. I am afraid Israel distruction will mean at least half the planets distruction. It is known as the Samson Plan. Change you tactic or open your mind to facts and reason maybe? Regards
Ram ,   London   (07.13.09)

Hi Nour, I see that you are at it again. Have you ever looked at Palestinian history? You will see that it is full of falsehoods and mis-truths. There is nothing wrong with you wanting a homeland, every ethnic group wants one. But don't come down on Israel so much, you should rather come down on your own Arabs who in reality do nothing to help the Palestinian cause. Jordan: some years back brutaly put down a Palestinian uprising. Saudi Arabia: no way unless the palestinians are laborers Egypt: will not let Palestinians in from Gaza (why is that?) even for humanitarian purposes. Israel the country which you so hate so much allows humanitarian aid, medical treatment in its hospitals for seariously ill Palestinians. Abbas is like Arafat except that he is able to travel a little bit.
Avraham ,   Israel   (07.13.09)
26. to #20 but the muslem population haunted them
there, and they r jews, the great muslem nation terrorised them. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aliyah_from_Ethiopia get your facts straight and yourself. as for russian prostitution I reckon you know about the subject more than I do, cause you use these typ of services quit often.
ghostq   (07.13.09)
27. Once Abbas's term is up, we will hear on the news how hamass
had him assassinated ,   for revenge killing.   (07.13.09)
28. Sounds like Kamis had beau coup experience. Yet mis-informed
Lisa slammed him and ,   Lieberman both!!!   (07.13.09)
29. Abbas wants only to deal with Livni because she & Olmert had
privately agreed to ,   a paly state.Chiam.   (07.13.09)
30. Avigdor is right. It would be like dealing with Obama after
21/2 years. He won't ,   be re-elected either   (07.13.09)
