Ministers: Netanyahu, Obama have their wires crossed     Roni Sofer

32. America was once our ally
Up until now, America was a close ally of Israel. That all changed on January 20th, 2009. On that terrible day, a President who is pro-terrorist, anti-Semitic and quite possibly a Muslim assumed office. As demonstrated by Obama's policies, he is no friend of Israel. He wants Israel to withdraw from Jewish land in Judea and Samaria and hand it over to the Fatah terrorist organization. He wants to stand by while the religious fanatics who control Iran develop a nuclear bomb. He wants us to stop defending ourselves against terrorists. I never thought I'd be saying this, but Israel should be trying to develop close alliances with Russia and China, since the American Government clearly couldn't care less if we are wiped out or not. Just like during the Holocaust, America is willing to allow the Jewish people to be annihilated. May the Israeli-American alliance (May 4th, 1948 - January 20th, 2009) rest in peace.

35. Obama, get off Israel's back before it is too late...!!!
You have gone too far for even me, a Liberal Jew, to support your attitude toward Israel!
David ,   Bethesda, MD U.S.A.   (07.20.09)
36. Obama leave us alone
The last time I counted how many stars were on the American flag it was 50 and not 51. When Israel is the 51st then Obama can tell us what to do. In the mean time let him deal with same sex marriages and abortions.

37. Bravado of the Talkbackers
It is interesting to speculate where all you big-mouth heros will be when the world starts activating its trade sanctions and embargos against a recalcitrant Israel.

40. but can Palestinians buy their entry permit
Netanyahu said: "Israeli Arabs are not forbidden from buying houses in west Jerusalem and Jews must be granted the same right in the eastern part of the city". Israeli Arabs are not Palestinians by Israel's definition. PA Arabs can not buy entry permits to west Jerusalem!.

41. What would Labor do? Roll over and say "yes sir".
The vast majority of Israel's are right behind Bibi on this whole settlement and building issue, and Labor is losing more potential voters. Israel is a sovereign state and is not dependent on the US. http://tinyurl.com/usaidtoisrael Naturally Israel would prefer to be on good terms with the US but not at the expense of its independence. Additionally, Obama received a letter from 73 Senators a few weeks ago, telling him to back off, and he's already having major problems with his foolishly priced health plan and is skydiving in the polls. Welcome to the real world Obama. Jane
Jane ,   London, UK   (07.20.09)
42. No, No, it is the United States seeking confrontation with
Israel's government, something that will harm both, but mostly the prospect for peace in our region. The US should focus on the essence of the Arab Israeli dispute and not on the symptoms of it. The essence is the Arabs' refusal to recognize Israel's right to be, to exist as the nation-state of the Jewish people. They have attempted endlessly to put an end to the existence of the UN member state, one that came about based on UN decisions. They will do so again in the future unless they accept, internalize and demonstrate that Israel indeed is here by right and it is, based on its citizens' choice, the nation-state of the Jewish people. Time for Americans to learn this as well it appears.

44. Smooth out on the emotionalism, #32
Keep your wits about you, don't slip into the "Jewish victim" wail, and remember that Obama & gang are just a moment in time till 2012. Remember, this progressive, knucklehead administration shall pass. The alliance is anything but dead, and despite the Obama vision & intent, his administration will only accomplish it's ends dependent upon what the Israelis actually decide to accept, and give on. Though the road may get sour as Hell at times, stay smooth, and simply refuse to budge on those matters Israel deems truly vital. What you do NOT want to do is start fantasizing, and thrashing about , trying to "replace" the US. That is truly a futile "fools errand". You honestly think you'd find better, or more serious friends, sniffing around the Chinese or Russians? No, keep your own counsel, dig your heels in when necessary, and wait till we finally bring the curtain down on this progressive mess in 2012.

47. Wrong: Obama is making dangerous request for Jews and Israel
We don't need his permission on how to run our country. About time he started reading that Bible he says he believes in.

48. Hang tough, Bibi....
This Obamanation is leading the US in a basket to hell. He is turning the US into a Fascist nation quicker than you can blink. Separate yourself from him. The judgement of God is upon the US and we are to have no part with them.
Chaim ,   Arad   (07.20.09)
49. comment, and #37
Who cares what Labor thinks? It is a failed party that for some unknown reason was allowed into the coaltion. #37: yes bravado. Czechoslovakia could have fought off the Germans, but allowed themselves to be sold out by the West for fake peace. Israel should learn from their experience. Obama has accepted the plan of racist apartheid Saudi Arabia to exterminate the Jews. The Jews should not willingly board Obama's train, even of the whole world helps him. In any case, unlike what #44 implies, the Chinese, Indians, Russians and Iranians would be happy to support Israel against Wahabi Jihad in exchange for technology.

51. Obama has bigger problems, yet he focuses on Israel
My personal opinion is that Barack Hussein Obama is an anti-Semite, and the reason I believe this is because he is constantly demanding things and criticizing Israel at a time when there are many other more important issues going on. Why doesn't he concentrate on America's collapsing economy? Or America's terrible healthcare system? How about investing some of his energy into helping the many, many homeless people on the streets of Los Angeles and many other cities in the US? Why, when he has all this to worry about, does Obama focus solely on Jews building houses? If Obama wants to fix an international problem, how about dealing with the Somali pirates? Or the GENOCIDE in Darfur? Or combating the rise in power of Islamic fundamentalist terror groups in Afghanistan and Pakistan? How about stopping Iran's nuclear program? All these issues are far more important than Jews building houses, and yet Obama focuses so much energy on this little issue. The only reason I can think of for this is that he is either a) mentally insane or b) he hates Jews.

52. Jordanian & Egyptian Option the way out
Based on UNSC Resolution 242, as is, Israel should withdraw its troops from some, not all, territory captured in the Six-Day War. Jordan then should assume control over such areas in the West Bank and Egypt in the Gaza Strip. No talk in 242 about "refugees", nor is there talk there about setting up yet an additional state between the River and the Sea. Be realistic, if indeed you wish to bring about an accommodation of peaceful coexistence between Arab and Jew, between Israel and and Muslim-Arab neighbors.

right on- just tell'em.. first you throw a fit because Switzerland met with your enemie, before it was the EU..- at this rate you are going to run out of friends pretty quick. Good thing TBs have nothing to say in international politics and diplomacy- armchair diplomats don't count for much!

54. Obama is right
As an orthodox Jew and as a Zionist, I'm happy to see that a US president is taking a tougher stand against the right side of Israeli society. Israel needs, and cannot live, without the affection of the United States, but this cannot be unconditional affection: the US, as Aaron David Millar has said so eloquently, needs to give Israel though love. Although I do indeed believe, as one person said earlier, that opposing settlement activity is fighting symptoms and not the root cause, objecting to the building activity in the disputed areas is a sane course of action. Israel will not get an inch safer if it continues to build in that part of the Middle East. Although Jerusalem is obviously a status apart, Bibi should have waited and invested more in a personal relationship with president Obama. This action of his administration will not serve Israel. Lets hope and pray in this period of mourning between 17 Tammuz and 9 Av, that the leaders of our Jewish State will be more intelligent going forward, and not cause the Jewish people more hardship. David. P.s. to my opinion the root cause of the conflict in the Middle East is the fact that the Islamic culture has not gone through a process of reformation or enlighment. Specifically in the Middle East, Islamic culture is still in a state of being highly ideological and dogmatic. George W. Bush tried to pull Islam out of the Middle-Ages by using the domino theory, hoping that a liberated Iraq would cause a major paradigm shift in the countries and societies in the Middle East and in its predominant culture (Islam). Although this has not happened yet, I do think that he was right in his assessment. Hopefully, this American administration will not undo all this progress, but build on it. True peace, tranquility and progress in the Middle East can only be reached when Islamic culture as it exists today, changes to a more modern version of it. And although many have told me and the likes of me, that Islamic culture will and can never change, I too much believe in the basic element that every human being has instilled inside him/herself and that is the yearning to be free, and live life as one wants to. Changing Islamic culture will be the challenge of a generation, but it is a challenge we need to face, if only for the face of our Jewish homeland.

It is not new to us that we have no friends. DId you really think we did? We don't. Friends wouldn't let 6 million die. Friends would not believe the gossip of the foe. Friends would not rejoice at our difficulties. Friends would not meet with our enemies.

56. to #53 lol Israel was in much worse
situation in the past, it's not dependent country, but self-sufficient country what history taught Israel that in the time of need noone will help her, noone, so this isn't so different.

58. Obama and J Street collaborate
Beware of J Street as it collaborates with Obama to undermine Israel's security. J Street is operating in complete cooperation with Obama to compel Israel to relinquish all claims to Jerusalem and the ancient Temple. Any Jew who cares about praying at the wall should be horrified by this development.

59. re
you should really really watch what you are saying...you and almost everyone else who defend Israel DONT KNOW ANYTHING about what happens here...and dont even have a clue of what Israel does to everyone especially Palestinians, I dont care what happens, but what I care about is people like you how dont know anything at all and just speak out of ignorance...PLEASE i'm begging you to check your facts you don't know that 1500 children were killed in Gaza last year... you don't know that Israeli Jewish Soldiers confessed a few days ago that their commanders told them to shoot everyone in sight...(No matter a child, man or woman) you dont know these things and you shouldn't fight for something that you DON'T KNOW anything about...
