1. MASHAAL POTATOES...
stude ham   (07.31.09)
if this guy has anything of substance to state why do it in the wall street journal. oh yah... the guy needs money and the jews control the banks and so on and so forth. rotten potatoes.
2. Why don't all Jews just die now?
Howard ,   Montreal, Canada   (07.31.09)
That is what Hamas, Hizbollah, Fatah, Al Aqsa Brigades and Al Quaida want---the destruction of Israel and the death of all Jews yesterday if possible. Why are Jews being so difficult and uncooperative about leaving the land and the Earth and just dying already? Because we Jews are right, we are just, and we are correct. This is the land of our ancestors, our history, our people, our culture and our heritage according to The Bible. We are G-d's Chosen People, chosen because we love, obey and follow G-d and His Rules and Jew-haters have no right to our lives and our land. We will overcome all Jew haters some day. Love of the Almighty G-d is stronger and more pure and powerful than the hatred of Jews by those Muslims and Christians who are ignorant of G-d's word. The Muslims and Christians who understand G-d's will are allies of Israel and friends of the Jewish people. Those who bless Israel will be blessed. Those who curse Israel will be cursed. Fear not for we are with the Omniscient, the Omnipresent, the all-encompassing, the all-knowing and the all-powerful G-d of all.
3. Israel should respond:
David ,   Rhode Island   (07.31.09)
Israel is prepared to cooperate with any US initiative promoting peaceful resolution to Israeli-Arab conflict, if White House can secure the removal of all reference to the destruction of Israel in the Hamas Covenant, the cessation of hostilities against the State of Israel, the end of incitement in the schools and media, and guarantee freedom of religion and freedom of expression in Gaza.
4. When I was a kid
David ,   USA   (07.31.09)
If you were in a fight with another kid, and you were winning the fight, the other kid would try to get you to stop fighting by getting you to start talking.
5. What's the point of a ceasefire?
(07.31.09)
Hamas has not attacked Israel since they got their butts kicked badly in Operation Cast Lead.
6. This is what Hamas says, the question is what will Hamas do?
Darren ,   Oakland, CA   (07.31.09)
Both Hamas and Fatah have already failed to live up to US demands that they amend their charters that both call for the destruction of the State of Israel. Both Hamas and Fatah have already failed to live up to US demands that they cease using violence as a means of acheiving political liberty. I can go on and on here, but the real question is whether Hamas and Fatah have ever lived up to any demands made by any US administration? I challenge anybody reading this talkback to provide at least one instance where the PA, Hamas or Fatah have lived up to a demand made of them the US- just one instance. This will prove whether Mashaal is speaking from his you-know-what again or not.
7. Lying as a Way of Life
Izzie irgun ,   zion   (07.31.09)
Let me get this straight, hamas is for a peaceful resolution of the Israeli conflict.... hahahahahaha lets be real, hamas is a lying, murdering terrorist organization that just started another war by firing rockets into Israel. After they were almost wiped out, and too bad Olmet stopped, they now say they support peace. This is all a bunch of lies to sucker Obama into more engagement. if they want peace let them start by recongizing israel's right to exist. But they won't because everything they do is a ploy to position themselves for the next shootout. Lets pray the fools advising obama don't fall for this.
8. Call it for what it is....
Psalms 83 ,   Selah   (07.31.09)
Hamas definition of ceasefire = HUDNA = To be continued once Hamas i is strong enough to effect israels removal... Hamas has stated it will never take the goal of the removal of Israel out of thier charter... and like osteraches with thier head in the sand those who push a 2 state solution ignore that plank of the hamas charter.... they insist on thier FOOLS ERRAND of a 2 state solution which guarentees future conflict and potentiel demise of the israeli state....
9. Mashaal...
Malone ,   Hfx   (07.31.09)
Ceasefire...Hamas is now under a self imposed ceasefire anyway, simply because they got their butts handed to them in Cast Lead, and don't want a repeat. Now they're looking for concessions for somethingthey're already doing anyway. Gotta give 'em E for effort anyway.
10. Yeah, right
Sarah B ,   New York City, USA   (07.31.09)
I COULD believe you, except I am lacking some evidence of your ability to engage to fair dealing. WAIT!!! I KNOW!!! Release Gilad Shalit -- or his remains -- IMMEDIATELY, and we'll take it from there. WOW!! Sounds like a plan .... to keep you from total and utter destruction .....
11. rename " 2 state solution "
Psalm83 ,   Selah   (07.31.09)
everyone call it "a FOOLS ERRAND"
12. Re#3
Psalms 83 ,   Selah   (07.31.09)
Quote "if White House can secure the removal of all reference to the destruction of Israel in the Hamas Covenant, the cessation of hostilities against the State of Israel" =========== Any one in Hamas that agrees with that puts thier life on the line ... to them it is a blood covenant.
13. bridge for sale
SWL ,   USA   (07.31.09)
hey MASHAAL - we have a bridge in Brooklyn for sale.
14. Mark Regev's statement re: Hamas "unhelpful"
Steve   (07.31.09)
Regev said: "Anyone who has been following (politburo cheif) Khaled Mashaal's comments over the last few months sees clearly that despite some attempts to play with language in a cosmetic way to give the impression of possible policy moderation, he remains rooted in an extremist theology which fundamentally opposes peace and reconciliation." Why would any civilized nation, much less Israel, care about peace and reconciliation with mass-murderers? Can you imagine a Jewish spokesman making this sort of comment during the days of the Third Reich? "Anyone who has been following (Chancellor) Adolf Hitler's comments over the last few months sees clearly that despite some attempts to play with language in a cosmetic way to give the impression of possible policy moderation, he remains rooted in an extremist ideology which fundamentally opposes peace and reconciliation..." Am I the only one who is shocked by this statement?
15. To: No. 3
Sarah B ,   New York City, USA   (07.31.09)
"Israel is prepared to cooperate with any US initiative promoting peaceful resolution to Israeli-Arab conflct." Yeah. Mind defining that for me, No. 3? Together with citations that might make me actually BELIEVE the Arabs? Yeah. That's what I thought.
16. Mashaal
Bachrach Andres ,   kfarsaba il   (07.31.09)
First of all mr.-Shalit!! or,.E L S E !! Are you afraid to uncover the truth?that you wrere lying all the time to us and to the whole world?
17. What happened during the previous ceasefire?
(08.01.09)
The last time that Israel and Hamas had a 'ceasefire', the IDF refrained from conducting operations in Gaza, while Hamas fired missiles into Israel every day. Mashaal's idea of a 'ceasefire' is an arrangement in which Hamas can carry out terror attacks, while at the same time, demand that Israel not respond. Thats not a ceasefire, its an absolute joke. Hamas will never renounce violence and recognize Israel's right to exist. The Hamas charter clearly states that "Israel will exist and will continue to exist until Islam will obliterate it, just as it obliterated others before it." The Hamas charter makes their view quite clear: "There is no solution for the Palestinian question except through Jihad. Initiatives, proposals and international conferences are all a waste of time and vain endeavors." Furthermore, Hamas' activities are financed by Iran. Hamas' weapons are paid for and in many cases supplied by Iran. The Iranians control the money and the weapons, which gives them control over the Hamas leadership. Mashaal knows that without Iranian support, Hamas is gone, and has no choice but to keep the Mullahs happy. Anyone who truly believes that Hamas will suddenly become peaceful is a fool.
18. Who Cares What He Will Accept?
Bill Foonman ,   Jacksonville, USA   (08.01.09)
Which part of "terrorist group" does Mashaal fail to grasp? What he will accept or not is irrelevant - as is Hamas.
19. Khalid a.k.a Borris Karloff !!!!!
The Ref ,   New Jersey   (08.01.09)
Does any one remember Abbott and Costello meet the Wolfman? More than a remarkable resemblance here. Perhaps Mr. Maashal was bitten by an Israeli Warewolf? It would explain everything!
20. Sarah - that's easy
David ,   Rhode Island   (08.01.09)
Just read the rest of it. Although after I read your post at 10, I realized I should have included also the release of Gilad Shalit. :)
21. 15, Sarah, that's easy
David ,   Rhode Island   (08.01.09)
Read the rest of what I said. Although if I could amend it, I would include the release of Gilad Shalit.
22. Obama cannot guarantee Israel from your side Mashaal!
Daniel ,   Israel   (08.01.09)
You were never an obedient child! Were you?
23. to 2
Gregg ,   Haifa, IL   (08.01.09)
What a bunch of crap !!! We Jews , Jews, Jews, Jews.... We are God's Chosen People, chosen because we love, obey and follow God and His Rules and Jew-haters have no right to our lives and our land... This is so BS !! You are not even able to love anybody else who's not like you ! What are you talking about?? Come over here ! You live in dellusions ! We are not better or worse than anyone else on this planet. We just have an oversized ego and that's it. We always feel persecuted and play victims' card for any reasons. Nobody has given us this land but the UN. The rest is just Historical facts that happened ages ago. We don't owe nothing in this Life.
24. YEAH!We'll commit to kicking your butt unless you surrender!
The Doc ,   Haifa, Israel   (08.01.09)
25. THE DYSLEXIC LEFT – SUCKED IN AGAIN
steve ,   tel aviv   (08.01.09)
a) What the Obama admin fails to grasp is the fact that, even when Arabs lose a war, they win. Just showing up to do battle with Jews or Christians or their own Muslim brothers, regardless of their losses, is viewed as a victory. (see Hezbollah, Hamas etc.) And the more death and destruction their people suffer, the better. Martyrs never lose. b) Talk is weakness. In Arab and Iranian eyes, just asking them to engage in dialog gives them the upper hand. Like a junkyard dog, they have a keen ability to sense fear in all those who wish to get together and talk. The Arabs and Iranians have a tradition of welcoming dialog proposals, only to reject them in order to attain more leverage. What American and European leftists don’t get, though the Arabs and Jews have said it a million times, the only (political) thing the Arabs understand is power, be it within their own borders or beyond. The sooner the International community clues in, the better it will be for the hundreds of millions of innocent Arabs and Iranians living (if you can call it that) in this upside down region.
26. Are there settlements to freeze in Gaza Strip?Im not sure!
Alan ,   SA   (08.01.09)
27. Wow, I'd accept a cease-fire for everything, too.
William ,   Israel   (08.01.09)
What a great deal (in the minds of Arabs) - they get everything they always wanted and in return agree to stop killing civilians for a short period of time. Hey, maybe Israel needs to negotiate on their terms.... Keep targeting Hamas, squeeze the Gazans....pee on mosques...build in E. Jerusalem and settlements.... then say "we'll agree to a limited cease-fire now....for an official drop of Right of Return, Hamas and PA must give up all weapons, the Hamas and PLO charters must be changed, and Israel is to be accepted as a Jewish State" "If Pals don't accept right away - then we know who hates peace". Stop step-by-step pussy-footing with these yo-yos.
