sohaib ,   uk   (08.03.09)
all illigal settleres in Palestine are only buying time by supporting these illigal practices, now you can moan at the US for interfering in your "Internal" affair, and well done also for the US in acting like they give a monkey only to gain some stupid arabs suppport against IRAN, so just keep buying time and injoy all you want you will be again evicted as per the telmoud. salam

((a ruling by the country's Supreme Court that the houses belonged to Jews and that the Arab families had been living there illegally.)) Bravo the legal system of Israel; it does miracles! it made the wonder of present absentees in only two years. But, why it took them almost 80 years to create the second wonder of absent presentees.
63. In approx. 6-8 months Obama will get preoccupied
leo ,   usa   (08.03.09)
with mid-term elections. Then after elections his hands will be tied by Republican House and hopefully Congress. Just have patience and do what you have to do in the mean time.

If it is OK to turn over a home in East Jerusalem owned by a Jewish family 50 years ago back to the Jewish owners why isn't it OK to turn over a home in West Jerusalem owned by an Arab family 65 years ago back to the Arab family?
65. slams
colin   (08.03.09)
Amazing !!!! The USA did not slam the arabs for evicting jews from thier homes in gush Obama again shows he hates the jews. The supreme court ordered that the house is a jewish property after checking with a very fine toothcomb all the legal documents.I suppose peace now will claim humanterian assistance for the 2 families. Bibi must again remind the americans that Jerusalem is undevided and they can attempt to slam the air where they might get results.
66. what would they say if it was their home illigally occupied
zionist forever   (08.03.09)
All these American officials and bleeding heart leftists are now up in arms because the COURTS not the politicians judged that these homes belonged to jews and the arabs had been living there illegally. We are also talking about just 2 families not 200. If the US is going to start condemning the moving of what are in effect squatters in Jerusalem because the people who are being forced to move out are arabs then we really have reached new lows with US attitudes to where jews are allowed to live. If a jew was illegally living in a home that the court judged belonged to an arab and 2 jewish families were forced to leave the US would not be condemning Israel for it. Obama would probably be smiling and saying I am very happy for you guys getting those illegal jews out of the homes you rightfully own the courts made the right decision. Move an arab and its like your committing murder in the eyes of the Obama regime. Obama has not right to try and overrule supreme court judgements for politics and neither does Bibi so its no use complaining to him. Thats what happens when you have seperation of powers and a court system which makes its own judgements and is not dictated to by politicians as in the arab world.
67. #64 Get your facts right
riki ,   LF   (08.03.09)
To prevent such an argument, even though the Jews had title, they repurchased the house from the arab family who claimed they owned it. However, when certain elements in the arab community found out, they put pressure on the arab family to deny it. But, the Jews were able to prove to the Court's satisfaction that they indeed purchased it. Furthermore, the arab tennants had plenty of notice that they had to leave because they did not have the right to live there.
68. more info
Gedalia ,   Australia   (08.03.09)
The way this story is being reported on TV in Australia, especially SBS, is a disgrace. Most of the information is missing, and the short amount of information (like the land is owned by Jewish people) is presented as a "claim" of the settlers. All we see are crying children being taken from their home "they were born in", as we are told by the reporter they have nowhere to go and live. Where is the story that gives us the full background - information about the history of the land, the court saga and decision, the status of the squatters, the purchase and the nature of the legal dispute? Can we please have some more well presented facts so that we can better understand this matter?

Ignoring other countries Supreme Courts is the Foreign policy of the US. Look at how the US joined every leftist slime socialist entity in slamming the Hondurans. It is fascinating to watch the Great Big Democracy sliding into terminal decline and tyranny and the rule of law rising against adversity in a tiny republic that just happens to export bannanas.

I browsed the comments associated with this article and for the most part all i see is white rage and toxic venom. Believe me when i say the world has long lost patience with the banal stupidity of both the Palestinian and Israeli causes. Grow up and stop acting like damn idiots.

First of all, you cannot steal what is rightfully yours. The provenance that the homes were Jewish-owned is impeccable. Secondly -- do not preach to Jews about murder. We've been victims of murder throughout history and learned all about it the hard way. Moreover, Hamas has killed more Palestinians in Gaza than Israel ever did. Israel's incursion into Gaza was intended to stop terror and violence which targeted Israeli civilians; to that end, it was successful. What is Hamas' excuse?
72. Joseph Goebels (Y.S) would be proud of YNET reporting.
Moishe ,   Golutsk   (08.03.09)
This article is written in the best traditions of Joseph Goebels (yamach Shmo). No where in the article it is mentioned that Arabs were occupying this building illegal. No mention that this building legally belongs to a Jewish owner. Even anti settler Israeli Supreme Cort agreed with eviction order. Shame on YNET.
73. illegal occupations
wyle peterson ,   montreal canada   (08.03.09)
...indeed the point is illegal occupation, and even after fifty years the facts remain the same. it will be interesting to see how israel will treat the issue of properties bought by jews in the illegally occupied territories of cyprus, quite significant in recent years, and whether the same old "arab excuses" will be used to prevent the land returning to its rightful owners. I hope that this great democracy will stand for the Universal Principals, which for many israelis in this case will become an inconvenience which pales.
74. #67 - Can an Arab purchase in Katamon?
Barry ,   Boston   (08.03.09)
I am assuming that if a Palestinian family owned a house in Katamon prior to 1948 and left during the War of Independence it would be OK for them to repurchase their house from the current Jewish owners. Is that correct?

if an Arab didn't attend his property for 6 months. he is absentee. But, if a Jew didn't attend his property for 80 years, he is presentee.
