1. No Need to do this

The vassal Israeli state of slaves to the great American Empire only needs to speak english. Your religious devotion and obedience to America Babylon has paid off as you are far removed from HaShem. You have become more and more like the image of the god you serve and run to for no-peace. Even your crime and sexual perversion's are a mirror of your IDOL nation.

4. Oh come on!!!!

Stop trying to turn our boys into posh little English Princes. Yes, they need to speak Hebrew, but who is anyone to say to what level? And where will that stop? Will we all have to improve our Hebrew in the work place as well? Will we be fined for not speaking correctly in public places? Will there be under-cover Linguistic rangers about? For crying out aloud!

Marcel, the last time I looked, we could leave any time we wanted to. What's keeping you?? I'm an immigrant and I love this place and its people, the eternally disgruntled like you, excepted. I bet, your messiah or whoever you believe in could show up at your door with paradise on a silver platter and you'd bitch about something. As for all those "sexual perversions," they've been around since time immemorial and I seriously doubt that anyone needs for us, one of the most prudish nations on the planet, to show them what they are. Maybe you wouldn't be so miserable, if you tried a little something different. Would leaving on the light be too much for starters? Now that Bush is gone, is Israel the target for your diatribes? Better be careful! HaShem might just get sick and tired of that BS and shut you up permanently. As for language skills, here's a little joke. What do you call people, who speak 3 languages? Answer: They're trilingual, What do you call people, who speak two languages? Answer: They're bilingual. What do you call people, who speak only one language? Answer: Americans.

No comment on the point I made about Israel being a nation of idol worshipers who serve their false god religiously and are such good whore's for America's no peace Road Map ? A nation of idol worshipers who run to everything and everyone but the Holy One of Israel ! I hit a nerve with the idol worshipers.and all they have to say is nothing of substance.
8. Hebrew then, Hebrew now
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, USA   (08.06.09)
I was fortunate to have studied Hebrew in Jerusalem back in '70-'71, and a bit more in '76. The "Golden Age" by some measures. As more recent trips have confirmed, I've forgotten more than I recall, but even I note how much sloppier the language has become. How many even recall, for example, the "bumaph" rule (bet-vav-mem-peh)? Immigrant absorption is also stymied when the government drops support for such aids as news in "ivrit kalah" (easy Hebrew) that were once regular features on Israeli radio. I asked a teacher of Hebrew at U of Haifa in 2005 about it; she'd never heard of it. And it's no surprise that slang rules even more so today when schools are overcrowded, undisciplined, and kids are barely exposed to classic texts like tana"ch or modern Hebrew literature as was once the case.
9. This is not linguistics...

...it is prescriptivism. You cannot say that native born Israelis are speaking "poor" Hebrew. The fact that such recruits are scoring a 7 on entrance tests shows that the country is failing to meet the changing nature of language, and not a "deterioration" of that language. Most English speaking people do not know the original meaning of the word "nice" (stupid, ignorant), nor do they realize that standard past tense of the verb 'dive' was 'dived' until rather recently. Now it is 'dove'. The development of "they" as an acceptable third person gender-neutral pronoun is also a recent addition as the standard technique made reference to gender necessary. However it would be silly to say that English is deteriorating. What needs to happen instead of "fixing" soldiers language is to recognize and embrace changes as a natural part of linguistic evolution. Updating dictionaries by including new usages in terms of both vocab and grammar is crucial.
