1. Thats sick,we are all Jews in a Jewish
Eric... ,   Israel.....   (08.11.09)
land.Black or white this is our home Ethiopians are nice good people and they are part of us.If we havent learnt from our history , we have learnt nothing . Respect is the name of the game.
2. Disgusting!
Zionist ,   Miami   (08.11.09)
3. This racist loser must have a serious inferiority complex
Tahl ,   Ashdod, Israel   (08.11.09)
Only real losers feel the need to belittle and insult others in order to make themselves feel better. Egged should fire his sorry ass on the double, apologize to the woman, and give her a handsome compensation.
4. Give the Shmuck a one way ticket to Ethiopia!
Joe ,   Ramat Gan   (08.11.09)
5. One word will make Egged shape up problem drivers: LAWSUIT.
usa   (08.12.09)
6. Thanks for this. ALL of us should follow-up with Egged.
Real Jew ,   Israel   (08.11.09)
7. Outrageous
Jeremy ,   Boston, USA   (08.12.09)
Ethiopian Jews are some of the most patriotic Israelis I have met. This sort of behavior by anybody who considers themselves "Jewish" is downright embarrassing for the rest of us. Find the driver and fire him, immediately.
8. Bus racism
Avi ,   Ashkelon   (08.11.09)
Publish his name and picture. I want to get on his bus and humiliate him too. Egged, show you have some justice .
9. I am so mad when I hear this crap!
William ,   Israel   (08.11.09)
I hate racist, unjust people. While many in Egged are law-abiding, I too have witness drivers with this type of shitty attitude. If it's not the Ethiopians, it's the Mizarhim or even Americans. I too felt the sting of a racist action by a Dan bus driver who purposely didn't open the door for me and even laughed as I pounded on the door. Ethiopians are a great addition to the Israeli culture mix (and none have blown up a bus yet). I hope he is fired and she is richly rewarded.
10. racism
alan ,   Texas   (08.11.09)
If it is true in any way, he should be fired immediately. No apologies.
11. His mother would be ashamed.
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, USA   (08.12.09)
I guess some people are so insecure they *need* someone to look down on. My father's cousin made her way to Palestine from the Syrian Jewish community of Aleppo back in the 1940s. She was trying to rent a place, but her Hebrew wasn't yet very strong. A friend went with her to help translate. As soon as the owner heard her speaking French, he shouted out "Frenk!" and stormed away. This cousin was a teacher, and put five kids through college, despite the discrimination she faced. One hopes Verka can similarly overcome the challenges. There's no place for such bigotry in today's Israel. The driver should be identified and sanctioned.
12. Awful story. But is "kushit" actually derogatory?
Susan Dunham ,   Grovers Corners, NH   (08.12.09)
The rest of the story indicates the driver is a raving bigot, and if it's proved, he certainly should be punished. But if "kushit" is derogatory, as Mr. Edelson says, then what is the polite term? In the US, for example, "African-American" and "black" are polite. The impolite terms aren't worth mentioning here. Is "djindji" for a redhead derogatory? I might have thought "Kushit" was also okay. Except when said in hostile tones, of course.
13. Racism
Brod ,   USA   (08.11.09)
If true, the bus driver acted like the racist KKK.
14. Blight on our country
Scott ,   Haifa   (08.11.09)
Hope it's an isolated incident. Leviticus 19:33-34 that if “a stranger dwells with you in your land, you shall not mistreat him and that stranger who dwells among you shall be to you as one born among you, and you shall love him as yourself; for you were strangers in the land of Egypt. .
15. Verka, all AM Yisrael is with you
Max ,   Brooklyn, NY   (08.12.09)
I am sorry you had to go through this terrible experience, this is an isolated case. Its clear that bus driver has mental issues. its unfortunate. Stay strong!~)
16. respect
alexi   (08.12.09)
Bus drivers whether jewish or arab and this one may have been arab, have to treat israelis especially ethiopians with respect. No cursing or derogatory expressions allowed. I apologize for this driver to this nice woman. israel appreciates these beautiful immigrants and welcomes yoiu. They have had a hard history and here it will be better. Find the driver and make him apologize.
17. this is normal
bashar ,   colombia   (08.12.09)
for the jewsih people in israel they do not belive in black be jew see how they treat teh arabs this is normal this is in your blood now do not say that is awfull deep in your heart al of you ar ehappy
18. Take these stories with a grain of salt
Al   (08.12.09)
Notice the first thing this kid talked about was suing the company. With 70K lawyers in Israel and most of them not making a living, you can expect more of these stories..I wasnt there so I cant say either way.
19. #12 It's not "djindji" it's "gingi."
david ,   los angeles   (08.12.09)
It's "gingi," as in a ginger-haired person, which is what redheads are know as in most English-speaking countries. Where on Earth do you get "djindji," which sounds like some sort of Arabic genie-in-a-bottle?
20. #14 stranger? If only Arabs were treated as you say...
David ,   Los Angeles   (08.12.09)
21. Multiculturalism
pub ,   USA   (08.12.09)
I wonder if he lives in a neighborhood that's been negatively effected by the immigration.
22. The bus drivers Judement
Ezra ,   USA   (08.12.09)
So it's true, according to the Kabbalists when someone is judgmental, it creates separation. This is Satan's number one tool for creating separation. Well, no one is immune to the laws of the universe, so the driver will now be judged. Reactive judgmental behavior always leads to separation.
23. IF this is a true story...
Ginette Golden ,   Toronto, Canada   (08.12.09)
then by all means, sanction the driver, publish his name and photo then fire him. But what ever happened to “innocent until proven guilty”? let the investigation (and there should be one!), unravels both sides of the story. I always thought this kind of discrimination happened anywhere in the World except in Israel. Moshiah better hurry up and show himself before our entire souls degenerate.
24. The positive aspect
Arie ,   BaGolan   (08.12.09)
is the other JEWISH passengers coming to her defense. There is NO excuse for the driver and Egged must take appropriate action. If they don't then the police must!
25. Disgusting!
Chi ,   Washington DC   (08.12.09)
This is beyond disgusting, I am a Christian Ethiopian-American and I hear about these types of incidents all the time. This ignorant driver should be fired or even prosecuted. Don't you people have a hate crime law.
26. Moses Ethiopian wife
Galut ,   Selah   (08.12.09)
many folk do not realize that Moses had a Ethiopian wife... http://www.biblefellowshipunion.co.uk/2004/Sep_Oct/MosesEth.htm
27. the gas bus
shoan ,   usa   (08.12.09)
this is totally unacceptable in a country founded by the suffering Jew. he must be punished to the full extent of the law. anything less means it is open the season on blacks.
28. Scott @ 14; I think you misspoke.
leo ,   usa   (08.12.09)
Are Ethiopian Jews strangers in Israel? I hope no Jew is.
29.  UGH
Jamie ,   USA   (08.12.09)
If true this is terrible behavior and must be reprimanded. My impression from Israelis here is the general Israeli public like the Ethiopians. Also wonder if 'kushite' a bad term as it is in Bible re Moses marrying ThaT young babe of a Kushite in his late years and the old matrons and eldest daughter complained. Moses shut them up- fast. Think they were afraid of others following Moses and their being displaced by a young one :-)
30. What a bastard
Yazi   (08.12.09)
What the hell is wrong with this guy? We're all JEWS, manyak. She'd be welcome in my bus, boy.
