1. Which means that next time we are attacked ...
The Doc ,   Haifa, Israel   (09.16.09)
...we should NOT restrain ourselves and should finish the job once and for all. Reagrdless of how careful we are and how much proof we have regarding our intent and actions to prevent civilian loss, the Islamo-Leftist coalition will ALWAYS find us guilty by so-called "crimes", and whitewash terror attacks against Israeli civilians and calls to genocide against Israel. This report is actually a card blanche for Israel to IGNORE any international "opinion" about what it does during its wars for existence against a ruthless and genocidal enemy. This is a signal that Israel should do ANYTHING to insure its existence. Faced with the fact that we deal with cangoroo courts with biased and racist attitudes against Israel, the enemies should be aware that now, Israel has no choice but to deal a decisive and final blow whatever the cost. Their percieved victory will be very short-lived and costly in the long run indeed.
2. The UN...what's that?
Robert ,   New Jersey, USA   (09.16.09)
3. Goldstone meets press
Green Baron ,   Bethesda, MD, USA   (09.16.09)
Just for the information for anyone who might be in the Washington, DC area Oct. 1: Goldstone will be speaking at a press conference in the Zenger Room, National Press Club, 529 14th St. NW, Washington, DC, USA.
4. The UN
Federico ,   Argentina   (09.16.09)
Please remember that these guys during the 70s had as secretary general, a former wermacht officer and recongnized NAZI, do we have tu trust these guys?
5. Fight terror
Good ,   FL, USA   (09.16.09)
So, if the Hamas gets a free hand from the UN because it’s a terrorist entity and not a nation it will be a good idea for the IDF to create a separate and independent military-terrorist group called TAT (Terror Against Terror) which will have a free hand too and “legally” do all the jobs that the IDF can’t do legally. I wander if a Jewish terror group like this will get a pass from the UN too…. Fortunately for Israel; Europe, the US and even Russia can’t afford to be limited in their fight against terror so they will be forced to side with Israel. If not, they will pay the consequences sooner or later, just look at the vast number of civilians killed in Iraq, Afghanistan and Chechnya. The UN should be abolished and its corrupted workers and executives sent to jail for crimes against humanity for their bias against Israel and indifference to the atrocities in Sudan, Tibet, Saudi-Arabia, Iran, Rwanda and more and more……………
6. Just give your citizens mortars and rockets to launch
Steven Wilson ,   Anchorage, Alaska   (09.16.09)
back into Gaza every time they fire rockets at Israel. Then when the police turn their heads and don't see the rockets being fired......which the police in Gaza do all the time.......who will be to blame? Not the Israeli army of course. Fight in the same manner as the idiots in Hamas. Then the UN has no one to prosecute.
7. Considering the UN is run by a bunch of anti semites whose
Steven Wilson ,   Anchorage, Alaska   (09.16.09)
obvious goal is to help them eradicate the Jews... like you kill insects.......maybe you should change your tactics. Sue the United Nations for aiding and abetting terrorist organizations, while ignoring the deaths of innocent Israeli citizens, by the terrorist organizations and countries that they represent. Global hatred and zenophobia, espoused and practiced in the United Nations, is an act that is just as barbaric and prosecutable in my opinion. Hold the United Nations accountable for ignoring the terrorists actions against innocent Jews lives. If they ignore their constituents terror to Jews......they are aiding and abetting their terrorist activities. They can be taken into the Hague and tried as war criminals as well. File war criminal charges against all the government officials of these countries as well. If they scream immunity......then make all your officers embassy officials that they try to convict in the United Nations. Give them immunity from prosecution.
8. Ron Ben-Yishai what did you expect?
David ,   Karmiel, Israel   (09.16.09)
It was quite obvious from the word go that this "report" would condemn Israel and even if we had cooperated with Goldstone, the result would have been the same. Other countries can kill hundreds and thousands of civilians, the USA and the UK have caused the deaths of almost 100,000 civilians in Iraq (Iraqi Body Count) which NEVER attacked them but Goldstone condemns Israel! The Russians committed atrocities in Chechnya but Goldstone condemns Israel. China occupies Tibet, has no democracy and who know what the Chinese have done to the Uighurs but Goldstone condemns Israel. Sudan, Myanmar and so many other crimes and Goldstone blames Israel! Well, it is time for Israel to tell the UN and Goldstone to go to hell! In addition, maybe Judge Goldstone should be accused of crimes against humanity when he was a Supreme Court Judge during the abominable “Apartheid” days?
9. To # 1, you're 100% on that.
Nick Sporek ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (09.16.09)
We have everything that we need to survive right here in Israel. We don't need the UN or any other country for that matter including the US. .
10. #2
Harold ,   Liverpool   (09.16.09)
UN means the United Nations, the body that created Israel with the help of the United States. Wise-up.
11. #9
Harold ,   Liverpool, USA   (09.16.09)
Israel cannot survive without the United States. The US is the piller of Israel and without it you know the answer. Wise-up.
12. Slow & Cautious vs. Fast & Sweeping
Historical Observer ,   USA   (09.16.09)
It is quite clear that if this report is endorsed by the UN and other entities, then the comments here are right on target. Israel took expensive and risky steps to conduct a campaign of limited force in order to reduce unnecessary civilian casualties. The result is unified condemnation as if this was an all out bloody war of sweeping proportions. I am not saying Israel will go ahead and carpet bomb Gaza. We realize there are many innocent people trapped there under the control of hamas and do not want to hurt them. What they will do is err on the side of easiness rather than exert extra effort to protect families in close proximity to attacks. The safest solution is to kill first and sort out the bodies later since the international community believes that is what is going on anyway. This report does more harm to the future casualties of the next conflict than to Israel's position against terrorism. Without acknowledging the very fact that the people in gaza committed war crimes means that the next victim will have less of a chance to make it out alive.
13. To: #10,11 Harold
Good ,   FL, USA   (09.16.09)
The UN is also the organization that cut Israel and gave only half of what was promised to the Jews by the League of Nations in the early 1920’s. The UN is also the organization that was very quiet for eight years when Israeli cities were bombarded with rockets relentlessly. The UN is also the organization that was quiet for years when deranged terrorists blew themselves, killing innocent civilians. The UN is also the organization that has a majority of countries that hate Israel for no other reason than hate toward Jews. The UN is also the organization that ignores the deaths of hundreds of thousands of innocent people around the globe because it’s not Israel they can blame. So wise-up Harold. As for your assumption that Israel will not survive without the US, you are wrong again. The Jews survived much worst than not having the US and they did not even have their own country and own military which is one of the best in the world. So wise-up Harold.
14. crimes against humanity.
tiki ,   belgium   (09.16.09)
Please remember, next time Israel is attacked with rockets, it is allowed to shoot back with flowers and bomb with "bobkes. All the rest is "a crime against humanity" .
15. A "grave blow"? Are you kidding?
JPS ,   Efrat   (09.17.09)
Ron Ben-Yishai is waaaay off on this one. His 3 "significant" fronts are barely worth the world's time: 1) The diplomatic front - really? This is a UN report! Nobody cares about UN reports and rarely do they have drastic consequences like he points out. Diplomats have more on their plates than the same old Israeli-Arab conflict. 2) Oy... the media is gonna be against us? There is something new here that Ben Yishai knows that the media hasn't been bashing us about for years already? In a week or two this will be gone from page 40, let alone page 1. 3) The military-legal front? What? We aren't going to shoot back any more? Of course we are. In fact, the UN report was very, very specific about Palestinian war crimes. There's great justification for the opposite of what he writes, and that is to call for Palestinian leaders to be put on trial for war crimes. A victory for Hamas? Read this and show me where the victory is: "From the facts available, the Mission finds that the rocket and mortars attacks, launched by Palestinian armed groups in Gaza, have caused terror in the affected communities of southern Israel and in Israel as a whole. Furthermore, it is the Mission’s view that the mortars and rockets are uncontrolled and uncontrollable, respectively. This indicates the commission of an indiscriminate attack on the civilian population of southern Israel, a war crime, and may amount to crimes against humanity."
16. Imagine your victims are Jews
Steve Benassi ,   Silver Bay, MN   (09.17.09)
Imagine over 1000 Jews killed by a vastly superior military, while they cower helpless in a ghetto. It would be a war crime. Sound familiar? Think Warsaw. The US will not Veto your punishment as we have done in the past. We have a clear thinking president now, well versed in civil rights. Palestine Israel, 2 states, 1 country.
17. to Harold in liverpool
Michael ,   New York   (09.17.09)
we know what the UN means.. it means antisemitic, overrun by hateful Arabs, meaningless, powerless, useless and a tool of terrorists. Funded by Wahabi, Saudi Arabian, Libyan and other miserable bottom of the lot pieces of crap. And the UK helped to create all of this... Congratulations Harold.
18. UN silent during 1000's of rocket attacks
T. Traub ,   Arizona, USA   (09.17.09)
Why was the UN largely silent while Gazans shot thousands of rockets at Israel--for years and years??? It's only when the Israelis retaliate that the U.N. suddenly becomes intensely interested and starts finding all sorts of "crimes". The U.N. has lost all credibility.
19. Gaza op. was a flop. PR was handled wrong from the start
Leonard Fendell ,   Carmiel, Israel   (09.17.09)
20. #16, yeah imagine it was Warsaw
Danny   (09.17.09)
Again we don't remember the dead of Poland because of the fight in the Warsaw ghetto but because for years before that the Nazis had eliminated over 95% of all the Jews. Jews that were not denying Germany's right to exist. Jews that were not firing rockets daily. Jews that did not hide their soldiers amongst civilians. Jews whose victims were not 100% civilian just like Hamas's qassem rocket attacks are. Spot the difference now?
21. #13
BDS   (09.17.09)
The League gave the Jews no such promise - you are making this up. The League said that Jews should be allowed to live IN Palestine - but not in all of it, and certainly not as a sovereign people in their own state.
22. #6 Steve is actually quite correct...
Steve is correct   (09.17.09)
Israel, acting as a state actor, attacks Hamas for their rocket fire. Israel is roundly condemmed by the EU, UN, everybody. Hamas is not. Therefore, the lesson is that a State acting responsibly by punishing terror rocket fire is not effective. The proper answer to terror is... counterterror. Steve #6 is correct. When fighting tribes, you need to get 'tribal'. Think Mau Mau.
23. Goldstone
C. Astor ,   Vancouver, Canada.   (09.19.09)
The Hebrew University should take back the degree bestowed on Goldstone. As an international jurist he has forgotten impartiality, eveness, fairness, and ignored historical and real facts. His report is a masterpiece of self deception, incomprehensible bias, and a disservice to his office. Ignore it.
