That's a lesson BP should learn!
3. Sanctions will work only from ground up
publius ,   USoA   (09.24.09)
There is no use to santcions driven by top down approach. Scantions only work if major business concern plegde to self imposed restrictions, oscolate those that don't pitch in and then have government pass sanction resolutions in support of the free enterprise carrot and stick lead. The major feature of such an approach is having a demography of interests providing the framework of measuring the bottom line interests vs intangle interests that are often locked up in political indecision. A comprehesive body of major economic concerns provides a cover for political waffling to rally around, since sanctions driven from the top down often leads to a measure of political calculations on the impact that sanctions have on economic cerncerns, having these economic concerns vote the political goals vs economic gain removes this burden from the politics and gives a real measure of a poll. Proof: South African sanctions only started to work when economic power houses started to lead the politics to where the politcs wanted to go but couldn't see its way around the pitfalls of the economic bite scantions would have on enterprise as a concise summary of an effective sanction model.
4. Three cheers for GE!!!!

5. Wait a minute here! GE did sign a deal with Russia who is
Shlomo ,   migdal,Israel   (09.24.09)
selling the manufactured product to Iran. Why do you think the US pulled it's missel defence plans away from Europe? They were forced to do it by Russia. This is not a "Let's rejoice" story at all.
6. It's About Time
(09.25.09)
Up until the outrage over GE's continued business ties with Iran (brought on primarily by the evidence that Iran was helping Iraqi insurgents who were killing our troops), Jeff Immelt, the head of GE, was perfectly happy to continue GE's relationship with the loathsome regime. In addition, GE has a very questionable relationship with the Obama administration because GE owns NBC, the network that has consistently slobbered over Obama (think about Chris Matthews going weak in the knees), and GE stands to gain financially as a result of that relationship.
7. GE UANI Statement is meaningless
Stefano ,   NY, USA   (10.04.09)
Read the GE UANI document, GE DID NOT STOP business with Iran. GE's Media and Medical businesses in Iran only got reclassified as "humanitarian goods" now. How fake is that.
