1. Crocs on Yom Kippur
Df ,   Beer Sheva, Israel   (09.25.09)
Is anyone surprised at the psak halacha (fatwa?) ? The whole approach of the Ashkenazi ultra-orthodox stream of Judaism is to make things more difficult for the Jews. And then again, non-leather sport shoes are kosher for use on Yom Kippur. Are these less comfortable than Crocs ? - not in My experience. Pray tell - what are we to wear - Dutch clogs ? Or maybe go barefoot ? Pardon My sarcasm and laughter.
2. how about wearing crocks full of broken glass?
mike ,   israel (formerly usa   (09.25.09)
3. Can't anybody see that his come right out of his....
AJ ,   Washington, DC   (09.25.09)

4. #2 - Mike - I almost spilled my coffee ..
AJ ,   Washington, DC   (09.25.09)
laughing at that one! Thanks, I needed that.
5. Crocs
M. Hartley ,   Atlanta, US   (09.25.09)
This is strictly a personal opinion, but Crocs, like daisy dukes or see-through shirts/blouses don't seem very appropriate for religious services of any kind. But if people are supposed to suffer, it's pointed-toe, 4 inch stilettos for you guys!!! I'm not religious, but I'd make several synagogue/church/mosque rounds just to see that! Youtube would never be the same.....
6. crocs
Yochanan ,   Yasur,Is./P.R.US   (09.25.09)
What a load of croc..The Relig.'s heads are full of crocs.
7. This ruling is nonsence.
Wise Saba ,   Netivot   (09.25.09)
They're NOT LEATHER which makes them permissible.
8. Have Muslims adopted ruls from us?
Daniel ,   Israel   (09.25.09)
On the other hand, we are adapting rules from them! Why Rabbinate is looking in to the shoes? Do they think Jews are blind like Muslims to "adore any thing Rabbi says"?
9. RABBIS ON YNETNEWS ALWAYS TALK ABOUT LADIES BODIES ! ...
.. I DONT GET WHY ? ,   ATİLLA KARAGÖZOĞLU   (09.25.09)
10. Litvaks want everyone to suffer

(09.25.09)
to all those that dont kno rashi one of the greatest torah comentary says that the prohabition is not leather but comfterble shoes the rabbi didnt only say crox he said any shoe thats extremly comfterble as the words of the torah are "vinesem" and u shal make ure self suffer /inflict ure self the rabbi say it doesnt mean beat your selfes up but rather be a bit discomfetable for 25 hr so if you read just the scripture it would be inflickt pain on to ure slef... the rabi say dont cut you self like paghan but just dont eat dont drink dont wear leather .. some say its beeter not to wear very comfertable shoes and no washing hands and no sex for only 25 hr
13. ynet fabricating news again- not new...
yoni ,   tel aviv   (09.25.09)
this is not news at all. Every year the ruling is the same that all comfortable shoes are prefferable not to be worn but are permissible. The best is not to wear shoes at all and anyone who learns the shulchan aruch and the varied poskim will see this easily. ynet seems to fabricate something from nothing...
14. This Rabbi is a Croc himself!
MaMa ,   Israel   (09.25.09)
15. This makes about as much sense as the Psak about
Jacob Blues ,   New York City   (09.25.09)
water from Lake Kinneret being not kosher for Pesach because people threw bread crumbs in it. It's time the Rabbinate stop the intellectual navel gazing to deal with the minutia of Halacha and deal with the bigger issues.
16. Croc
Wizzund Odud ,   Damascus, Syria   (09.25.09)
In Islam reptile skin such as croc is also considered to bee leather so Croc is lether beecause it coms from a living anemal

20. CROC
LAWRENCE RAP ARTISTE ,   SAFED ISRAEL   (09.25.09)
On Yon Kippur I will be crying crocodile tears..
21. Well, it makes sense to me
EYS ,   Montreal, Canada   (09.25.09)
from a legal point of view, it's logical : crocs shoes are made of plastic, ok. But they're very comfortable. Ask people who wear them during the week-end, why crocs and you'll get the same answer each time : because they are confortable. Now from a religious (orthodox that is) perspective, Kippur is not really the time to feel confortable. Stay home if you can't experience one day praying, fasting, without your confortable pair of crocs...
22. I ordered a bed of nails from Indian Guru 4 Kol Nidre nite

25. to all talkbackers
albert   (09.25.09)
R. Elyashiv is a quiet man who has dedicated all his life to G-d and learning Torah . he is close to 100 and lives in a small1 bedroom apartment. A yeshiva student asked him advice. His response was applicable to the yeshiva student. Obviously he would not give that advice to any of you. It is good enough if you keep yom kippur. Ask your parents(if they are israeli) if they remember Rabbi aryeh levine-his father-in-law. He would visit the prisoners in palestine under the british and give encouragement. A man loved deeply by every jew-religious or irreligious. All the great israeli leaders- ben gurion included had the upmost respect from him. ( book available: A tzaddik in out time) This is the family R. Elyashiv comes from. He has no hatred in him. He doesn't speak bad about people. It is puzzling that a} a yeshiva student asking him advice makes headlines b} you should have such profound disrespect for him
26. for those who dont follow R' Elyashiv
eddie ,   london UK   (09.25.09)
this rule is not binding on anyoen who isnt his follower. For thso who do follow hi, it is their own affair. I personally wouldnt wear crocs on any day of the week, but most people wear Nike or Adidas sports shoes, which are pretty comfortable, but dont tell that to the rabbis!
27. nitpickers and nonbelivers
izzy d   (09.25.09)
my favorite moronic form of self expression. uh, first off the rabbi said its permissible but inadvisable. and then we have people attacking that for some kind of "talibanistic expression of forced beliefs on the rest of the population".
28. ok! no crocs that means I can flip flop down the road 2 shul
in my bunny slippers   (09.25.09)
29. Anti-religious incitement by YNet
SL ,   NY   (09.25.09)
It is against the law to incite the Israeli populace against any sector. So why is YNet permitting this diatrabe against the most renowned sage of orthodox Jewry, and allowing anti-religious hate-filled rants to be published? Because there is an overriding urge of secular Zionists to mock religious Jews. This has gone on for nearly a century. Even mocking a 99 year old scholar is fine, even encouraged, because of the greater goal of mocking Judaism itself. This explains why there is no balance in the article, which relates an OLD private discussion the distinguished rabbi had with a student. There is NO news in this position. The rabbi did not say Crocs are forbidden. He merely said for some it is preferable to be more stringent. For shame, YNet!
30. More rabbinic nonsense
Sidney ,   USA   (09.25.09)
As a Litvak myself, I am ashamed to be associated with people like this rabbi. It is rulings like this that are responsible for the majority of the world's Jews ignoring the religion.
