2. Not convicted of murder
Kyle ,   Southpark, CO, USA   (09.30.09)
Only because their ATTEMPTED MURDERS did not succeed.
3. Attempted manslaughter?
Sarah B ,   New York/Saviyon   (09.30.09)
What the hell is that?
4. Prisoners to be released
Bruria ,   Haifa   (09.30.09)
I thought International humanitarian laws demand providing signs of life of prisoners without requiring any payment in exchange? So what kind of garbage is this now?
5. they were caught red handed
ghostq   (09.30.09)
but not red enough, how much red should it be? brrrrrrr... sick sick sick.
6. Sarah, I believe you owe me an apology
John ,   London, England   (09.30.09)
Gilad is alive. You were wrong. I was right.
7. hamas
Duchess   (09.30.09)
is guilty of crimes against humanity
8. #6 Gilad alive? Lets wait until video received
GZLives   (09.30.09)
And how will we know when video was made? Will that be evident or conveniently not? Perhaps the video was made in the first days he was taken. Before anyone believes this crew, best to wait until it actually happens.
9. better
Barney ,   USA   (09.30.09)
to put one prisoner each day into solitary confinement. no freedom of movement. no light. tight quarters. release the names of those being punished to the pali media so their families can put heat or there will be a security leak where Shalit can be freed. one confined each day until Shalit freed. So as not to sink to their level can allow agencies in to see they are being fed etc. after a couple of hundred families in gaza see their family suffering like Shalit i bet you would see a popular uprising or conspiracy to let him go.
10. retards
david cohen ,   china   (09.30.09)
only retards act like this. cant u go on a campaign against hamas the way the world goes against on every possible occasion? use the media and keep exposing the red cross, the UN, even Obama who wants Israel to investigate gaza! why does not he investigate the killing of civilians in Pakistan? why does not he demand the release of shalit form his arab friends? releasing prisoners fr a video is unheard of and set a bad precedent.
11. Proof WHEN the tape was made??
Nili ,   Israel   (09.30.09)
How will we be sure?
12. then, how many non-murderous Israel has in jails?
observer   (09.30.09)
to release 20 for signs-of-life video means that Israel has has thousands in jail? why Israel doesn't practice transparency and claim that the red cross knows all about the true number of Palestinian prisoners in its jails?
13. Can anyone imagine?
m   (09.30.09)
If they release 20 terrorists who tried their hands at murder, what will they give for Gilad? The price is up, how about next kidnapping? What will they give then? I empathize with Gilad's parents, no one would like to be in their shoes, there is nothing worse than to know that your child is in these animals hands, but we have to think of the future and the consequences of these dealings.
14. To #6, Mr. Right. Not so fast.
Jake   (09.30.09)
You are right? Where is this video? We have yet to see any evidence of any up-to date video of Shalit. Hamas has been stalling and stringing along Israel with a bunch of gimmicks, cameras, and mirrors. They are obviously trying to delay or hide something. Perhaps it is you who should apologize.
15. prisoners slated for release
debbie ,   israel   (09.30.09)
YES, the above list sounds like a bunch of dollfaces, a real cub scout and brownie troop. The only thing that differentiates them from convicted killers, is that they had no luck and didnt succeed in killing their targeted victims. I agree that exchanging the video for criminals is a bad precedent, but is there another choice? Also, I don't understand how we can be sure this video was made now and not six or eight months ago.
16. prisoners slated for
debbie ,   israel   (09.30.09)
TO #4, BRURIA-HAIFA Haven't you heard? Israel is subject to the international humanitarian laws but Hamas apparently is not, according to the U.N., Goldstone, and many others. Hamas, Hizbollah, etc can maim and murder with impunity, but Israel is not allowed to raise a hand in self defense. Israeli P.R. must at once go on the offensive, not the defensive, and let the world know what brutal criminal murders these muslems are.
17. Confine all pali prisoners to solitary confinement
jason white ,   afula,israel   (09.30.09)
for three days for each day Gilad is held, plus the rest of their sentences. No visits by the dead cross, families, members of the knesset, no one. They should be sealed off from the outside world and given the minimum amount of food and water to survive. Each one locked into his or her cage with no contact with the outside world or even their fellow prisoners. Even if Gilad is returned alive and well after a couple of days, let the palis rot till they finish the additional sentences.
18. Barney's point (#8) is (with apologies
Robert Haymond ,   Ashdod, Israel   (09.30.09)
if I've misunderstood) that we need to communicate with Hamas in a language which they (Hamas) understands in order to be effective in our current and future dealings. For instance, Operation Cast Lead was a language which Hamas understood. As a result, the missiles launched from Gaza have decreased significantly and Hamas leaders have feared showing themselves too publicly. So too with Hamas prisoners: Were we to treat them as Gilad Shalit has been treated then we would get the kind of attention from Hamas which is required. It's as though we are playing a (deadly) chess game against an opponent whose rules for gamefare (warfare) are amply different from ours. What Hamas comprehends is fear and force. It's that simple. Restricting ourselves to some unrealistic principles of kindness will only do us in. Think of it as if we are dealing with the Devil (pure evil): You would not win the bout by restricting yourself with kindness or by taking pity on him. In the same way, we need to be hard with our Hamas enemy, give no quarter (an old American saying) and treat them in a manner which they can comprehend. I'm sure there is precedence in the Torah for what I've been advocating.
19. Losing respect because you dont do whats right for YOU
Jae ,   Yerushaliyim, Israel   (09.30.09)
Even our enemies frok the 9th century laugh at the testicular fortitude of a newborn that Israel;s government shows. Israeli government- you can no longer do prisoner "exchanges". It is 1 for 1.. . Even the enemy laughs at you. Your leadership is a joke. have some foresight. Even if "only 33% of released terrorists return to terror (the number is higher, just as it is with regular prisoners and recidivism , ie returning to jail for crimes), that means more people are harmed, more people are murdered? Their blood is on your head. Solution to this: no more exchanges. ridicule past governments who paid no thought to terror recidivism increase jail times for nationalistic/terror crimes. 2 years for attempted murder? Are you kidding? cell phones, conjugal visits, cable tv, decent food, red cross weekly visits? hows Gilad doing. exactly... Reciprocity

21. I don't owe anyone an apology
John ,   London, England   (09.30.09)
Who says the video doesn't include proof that it was taken recently? Even when there's undeniable proof that Gilad's alive, you people look for excuses that he's "dead". The fact is he's ALIVE. And he will return ALIVE. Then you will owe me another apology.
22. goldstone
alexi   (09.30.09)
if goldstone could hold hamas war crimes to account and have them reduce targeting of civilians, then fine, but don't expect them to change. Using goldstone's yardstick, jews of the warsaw getto committed war crimes by dumping molotovs on the heads of nazis. And israel wars against arabs were war crimes for which she should be delisted as a state. Could this have more to do with goldstone's wife noelle who is apparently christian and has turned richard into a jew hater. Noelle is more extreme than ailizia olmert in her love of nakba, and we all saw what alizia's politics did to ehud.
23. who is a female detainee?
observer   (09.30.09)
Female detainee Najwa abdul-Ghani was kidnapped on July 21, 2009. The army surrounded her home in Saida town, near the northern West Bank city of Tulkarem. The soldiers forced the family, including children and her aged parents, out of their home for more than three hours and searched the property causing damage. The soldiers kidnapped her and her brother Salah, placed them in two separate vehicles, and took her to the Sharon Prison for two days. On the third day she was moved to the Al Jalama interrogation center, and was interrogated for fourteen days. Six to seven soldiers interrogated her each time; they deprived her from sleeping or even eating properly. She added that the cell is always lit, day and night, which deprived her from sleeping. After 14 days of interrogation, she was cuffed, her legs were shackled, and was loaded onto a military vehicle. The vehicle drove for more than 4 hours to transfer her from Al Jalama to Al Damoun prison although the two detention facilities are not far away from each other.
24. To: John at No. 6
Sarah B ,   New York / Saviyon   (10.01.09)
Here is your apology, John. Pending proof positive, that is. Hamas has played this game before. When Corporal Shalit is back in the arms of his family, I will believe it. Until then -- Shalit is Hamas' trump card, if he is indeed alive (I pray he is). Hamas knows full well that were he returned, nothing will prevent Israel from destroying Hamas, root and branch. Do you really believe they intend to return him?
25. #2,3 in reference to #23, you are absolutely Right
observer   (10.01.09)
their attempted murder though fatal arrest, destructive interrogation and inhuman jail conditions did not succeed.
