1. Yet they buy cell phones and computers with "Israel inside"
... not to mention medical equipment and meds, agricultural and irrigation gear, diamonds and other stuff that contains Israeli components or technology.
How curious, too, that the Palestinians, Egyptians and Jordanians buy stuff direct from Israel, yet faraway Algeria is determined not to.

2. I think medical equipment and medicines
should also be refused. Algeria should be consistent in their convictions.

3. How much of this "israeli technology" is actually israeli?
Israel is the biggest violater of technology theft in the world more so than china.

4. Italian BATTLESHIPS?
Reporter or translator ignorance:
France doesn't make battleships, and Algeria doesn't buy them.
War ship != Battleship, OK?
The smallest battleship was the early-900's, and weighed 15.7KT. The last and largest battleships were 1940's era, and weighed 50KT+
What is Algeria buying? Frigates and Diesel subs. NOT Battleships, OK?

5. Nothing wrong with this
We always tell people that they should vote with their pocketbooks. Well Algeria is. Raymond, I guess you missed the fact that Israel and Algeria don't have diplomatic relations? Oh yes, I'm Israeli too.

7. rob, here's the background of that "Israeli technology"
rob in aus writes, "Israel is the biggest violater of technology theft in the world more so than china." rob, your claim flies in the face of the facts. Here are a few to chew over:
OECD figures from 2006 show Israel is #1 in R&D as a percentage of GNP and 13th in triadic patents earned (just ahead of Australia). BTW, Israel was just named a patent center.
Israel has the highest number of scientists and engineers per capita, the second largest representation on NASDAQ (after the US), second largest number of venture startups (after the US). Israel's Technion has one of the largest computer science departments in the world.
Intel, IBM, Cisco, Motorola, Microsoft and many others have chosen to site major R&D facilities in Israel. Are they all there to steal too? And what of the thousands of improvements Israel has made to US weaponry? From whom were those stolen?
To JB: Yes, Algeria is free to "vote with their pocketbooks", though they may be violating WTO rules. I was just pointing out their inconsistency.

Raymond has set you straight in a few short paragraphs but I, I just wonder about your ignorance, in your making generalizations backed up by no facts whatsover. If you want to rant on about Israel, at least try competing in the world of intelligent documentation.

11. its about bribery
given my work experience in algeria , its probably bribe related . the french didn't pay enough kickbacks to the ruling junta . algeria puts nigeria to shame when it comes to shame . its a pity they were given independence

|
12. How about other more logical reasons
How about Trojan horses in the weapons systems? Israel is known to implant these things in the electronics to spy on or to disable weapons systems. Even countries friendly with Israel are wary of that. So stop the bickering.

13. stop the farce
just because american companies set up plants in israel to take advantage of the cheap grunt labor ,israel tries to claim credit for the technology of our companies, what clowns you are. israel creates nothing and cant be trusted not to pilfer technology thats why american firms only let them do grunt work

Algeria probably didn't have the money to pay for equipment.

15. 7. Israel blaantly violates UN reg whats new
Israel companies are wire tapping the US, hired by our Gov. to listen, record phone, email, and internet com. they use the $$bils of provided by US taxpayers to buy and control companies which handle US secret.
Top US Generals have accused Israel of smuggling US tech to Israel then selling it to US enemies ie China, Russia, Iran, thus eliminating whatever advantage it might have provided.
‘Verint’s’ with HQ in Tel Aviv surveillance along with ‘Per Say" voice mining tech rivals even that of NASA.

16. You're lame
Unlike most countries, Algeria paid off its debts and is stocked up on cash. It's natural gas and oil exports are enough for it to afford even the newest weapons. It's not a question of money, but of avoiding controversy and of finding people willing to sell.
No one wants a militarized Algeria as the end result is bound to be ugly.
