32. to number 11
no offense but with regards to policy in Israel your smicha is equivalent to Baraks.

33. what happened to freedom?
I dont get all the people that are against the Rabbis here? Is it an issue of national defense that the soldiers need to listen to women singing? Why cant they follow whatever tradition they want? they arent imposing it on u. The real story is that barak got involved in an area that has nothing to do with him he quoted somebody out of context and the israeli media in order to cover up their secular man is trying to spin the story as if Jews are being oppressive. and of course all the left seculars here who really want to control people ) i.e. not allow them to chose who they do or dont want to listen too) bite it hook line and sinker. As usual!!

34. To # 12
Judaism is not a democratic Institution with the majority vote determines the Halacha. Halacha is still the rule even thought only 1% of people abide by it.

35. #11 Smicha
A Smicha means a blanket , There is a verse in the Torah that mentions Smicha too, Vsamach es yado al rosh HaPar is this the smicha you possess? My baby grandson walks around with his smicha when he needs a nap. Rav Eliyashiv and Rav Wosner are the addresses for halacha! What does "modern orthodox" mean? Being able to bend halacha as far back as you can without it breaking? Permitting the eating of less than a kazayis of chazir? Eating less than a measure of food on Yom Kippur? Thumbing ones nose at the Shulchan Aruch and Achronim?

36. As a General in the IDF and minister of defense
he knows about what he talks . He said : you have MY permission to listen . He did'nt talk as a religious guy , but as someone who knows the soldiers better than all the rabbanim together . And let the bunnie's and rivka's bark their stupidities , who listen to them .
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (10.18.09)
37. OK to squander taxpayers' money, as well

38. This has nothing to do with Torah
Torah does not forbid hearing a womens voice, and there were plenty of examples in the Tenach where women would sing, for Kings and for all Israel. Rabbis, have added new laws, it is their New Testament. This creates all kinds of repression, perversion, and it is let out in other forms such as abuse, violence etc..

39. When Was Law Established?
Curious about when this prohibition, about men hearing women sing, was first established? (I realize not all streams of Judaism adhere to this.) It's not something that's prohibited in the Bible.

40. agree with #15
Ehud Barak is the defense minister. That gives him the right to decide many things, but NOT the right to ask soldiers to go against their consciences or their religious beliefs. The IDF allows religious soldiers to follow their beliefs, as interpreted by their rabbis. This defense minister has shown his lack of morals by his overspending government money on personal luxuries in Paris. He has shown his lack of zionistic belief by his refusal to be the final signature on the legality of many yishuvim. Such chutzpah he has to now tell religious soldiers they must do something that goes against their beliefs. Unity in their units can't be at the expense of the religious soldiers' beliefs. It must unify ALL of the unit. If these soldiers want to leave during certain entertainment, how does that hurt? Why is that a pikuach nefesh or security issue for which one can set aside religious rulings? We're talking about entertainment, not p'ilut or even guard duty.
chava ,   yerushalayim   (10.19.09)
41. Chava , and others
Ehud Barak only GAVE his permission , did'nt tell them that they HAVE to .

42. When a Woman Sings a Song Glorifying.
Quote :” The minister (i.e. Mr. Ehud Barak) explained that "there is really ' Kol Beisha Erva' (meaning a woman's voice induces desire) … “ When a woman sings a song glorifying YAHWEH (i.e. the Supreme Lord) -- male persons should concentrate their attention on the meaning of the texts. There is NO reason AT ALL to be disturbed by the voice of a female singer. WHEN a male person is absorbed in thoughts on YAHWEH (the Supreme Lord) -- lusty desires will NOT arise in him. OF course, when one hears lust inducing songs, than as a matter of fact lusty feelings will be awakened (in males as well as in females) -- even if the song is sung by a male singer. IF one is disturbed by the voice of a female singer -- that means that that male person is NOT concentrating his attention on the meaning of the texts. So, the female singer should NOT be blamed for the weakness of the males -- ONLY the males SHOULD be blamed for their own weaknesses. BTW males includes Rabbis.
