To sweep all the criminals off our streets and from inside the Knesset. Why should a scientist, or a young academic, remain in Israel if he's offered more research money abroad? The Nobel prize winner too got most of her research funded by foreign sources, so we have no credit for it to take. Plus, when academic degrees cost a fortune (while in Europe it's almost free and some students are paid to study), there are few jobs for too little pay and even fewer chance of getting ahead in a career. To this, add the astronomic prices for real estate (for the money you buy a 4-5 room flat in Petah-Tikva, I can get a mansion with a stable, a yard and a triple parking lot in a village in Germany). Then add the crime rate and secondary living costs such as food prices (in EU a carton of milk costs 0.50 euro, in Israel 1.20). The taxes we pay in Israel are outrageous, but THE RETURN we get for those taxes is pitiful. Why would anyone with a brain who can succeed abroad settle for so little here? Don't start with the whole military excuse that sucks up the budget, even with it we can have a better living standard and the reason we don't is corrupted and half-witted leadership for generations in this land.

pay your professors better. A lot better. Israel has to dump tons more money into its universities and institutions of higher learning - including our Yeshivas! We are a very bright people, and we must give our bright minds the environment and resources they need to flourish. Start off by accrediting Ariel College and make it a real university.

4. Israeli brain drain
Robert Rockaway ,   Arsuf, Israel   (10.18.09)
As a retired professor from Tel-Aviv University, I am very aware of the academic brain drain from Israel to universities abroad. This subject is not new and has been discussed over the years. So far, the only thing Israeli governments have done is to discuss the problem. At the same time, they cut university budgets. Once again government officials say something must be done. Words will not keep top flight researchers in Israel. Talk less and do more. Actions speak loader than words.
5. #1 Is it hard to emigrate to Germany?Sounds great! No Wars!
