3. This is similar to Entrapment
Manuel ,   Mexico   (10.19.09)
Even if the guy was ready to sell out for money, why is the FBI going up to people pretending to be Mossad and seeing if they`ll bite? Did they have actual reason to think Mossad was looking for such people and they were trying to beat Mossad to the punch? Is Nozette Jewish and the FBI is doing loyalty tests? Do they do try to tempt non-Jewish scientists with offers to spy for other intelligence services? It`s creepy.
4. This is an FBI sting
Manuel ,   Mexico   (10.19.09)
Read the statement by the Justice Dept.! This was a STING by the FBI, and had nothing to do with Israel at all. Just like the AIPAC case, Israel had absolutely no connection to this affair whatsoever. The questions one must ask oneself are: Why does the U.S. keep using Israel as bait? Is it insecurity? Do the Americans believe that their people would rather be Israel`s people? Or is there another more sinister attempt to discredit Israel at play here?
5. NOT AGAIN!
David ,   Jerusalem   (10.19.09)
Doesn't anyone spy for Canada!
6. What to do?
David ,   USA, exile   (10.20.09)
Hey guys, I am a US citizen by birth and my opinion is that if he was spying in order to enrich himself then he should be prosecuted, however, if he was spying in order to help Israeli security he should be given an award.
7. "Balance" for the CAIR bust

once he is found guilty, hang him high. that's the only deterrent
9. Worrisome
Darryl ,   Newark, NJ   (10.20.09)
That American FBI agents are impersonating Israeli intelligence officers should be worrisome for the Israeli government. The fact that the current US administration so deeply distrusts the Israelis is leading them to investigate their own top scientists for even dealing with Israel. While it is acceptable to understand the FBI's concern given Nozette's high-level access to information, perhaps a more realistic nation for the FBI to impersonate would be Iran, Russia, Syria, or Saudi Arabia, rather than Israel. That Nozette was willing to divulge info to Israel should not applauded - but neither should the FBI's willingness to betray Israel's desire to gain critical US intelligence. Israel, after all, is the Middle East's only truly peaceful democracy. The US should not be actively subverting Israel. Alas, Obama is in charge. Must has changed in a few short months.
10. Manuel, it does appear to be entrapment
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, USA   (10.20.09)
The proper response to such an invitation to betray is "Get lost!" and a report of the encounter to the appropriate authorities. But it appears Nozette (not a Jewish name) was ready to play. The question is why Nozette was targeted. Did he have Jewish friends? An Israeli flag in his cubicle? The FBI clearly does have within its ranks a number who are obsessed about Jews and Israeli spies. Unfortunately, the FBI and CIA are far less troubled by Muslims who they actively recruit into their ranks. One - Rada Nadim Prouty (Lebanese) - is suspected of having betrayed an investigation into a Hizbulla cell*. (She was arrested in 2007, but got only a few months jail-time in a plea deal.) * cf Ronen Bergman's "The Secret War With Iran"
11. Impotent FBI resorts to entrapment methods?
Tahl ,   Ashdod, Israel   (10.20.09)
To the best of my knowledge, mere entrapment (actively enticing someone to commit a crime), with no actual crime being committed by him beforehand - is NOT a valid cause for prosecution. It's like contacting someone for selling him drugs, and then busting him for drug possession. But then again, experience in recent decades has proven that the US isn't exactly renowned for its due process by law.
12. anti-semitism
jj   (10.20.09)
this guy was clearly marked for being a jew and nothing else.so he gave away top secret info for cash. big deal. whats the point of a secret if you cant tell anybody. in israel they would be much more tolerant of somebody stealing secrets of national security and selling them. theyd probably just get a fine and a suspended sentence. this is like the spanish inquisition.
13. This is Entrapment ,he was set up
Marcel ,   Florida   (10.20.09)
For some reason they went after him. Maybe he said something about bill Clintons buddy bernie shwartz who transfered missile technology to China and was never arrested. A double standard exists in the thouroughly corrupt US OF A . It's who you know and nada pouty got a slap on the hands and Pollard is still in prsison.

15. Build 60 of these plants to supply Israel with free electric
Steven Wilson ,   Anchorage, Alaska   (10.20.09)
power. Here's some technology on how to make free electricity. (www.solar-reserve.com) Obama and the US administration are turning into a bunch of idiots using Israel to create very bad publicity. They have harmed relations with Israel rather than promoting a better relationship by doing these stupid FBI Stings. 60 of these plants could supply 6 million Jewish homes with power. Why keep buying terrorists oil to run your power plants?
16. Hey David, be carefull you could be persecuted for treason!!
itsnotme!   (10.20.09)
How can a US citizen agree to award a spy on his homeland? You can be traced and arrested!!!
17. Obama take notice
Great White North ,   Canada   (10.20.09)
Obama: Americans want to help Israel, at all costs. This is what the citizens of USA want, to help Israel. Obama start listening to your people.
18. Hey peckerhead
jb ,   canada   (10.20.09)
Didn't you read the article?? Has the sun down there affected your brain? Israel had nothing to do with this. Its your own fellow countrymen. No wonder the US is in deep shit with illiterate people like you. I guess as far as your concerned, it was all a Jewish plot. Where are those Zionist elders? Better watch it, Mr. bankrupt so-cal!
19. what if he was working for hizbollah
ben ,   jerusalem-palestine   (10.20.09)
a great idea, a hizbollah should say he is a mosad agent and approach all Jews working in the US government and tempt them. are you crazy guys the US is protecting itself, stop being so self absorbed, it just shows how if you lie long enough you start believing yourself.
20. Israel should be pissed if article true
zooog ,   US   (10.20.09)
The FBI impersonated an Israeli to entice a scientist to commit a crime.
21. anti-semitism ? its boring & the word lost its meaning

22. the loyality has always to be checked

how come people take an oath to serve and then betray at the first chance is beyond me america love it or leave it
23. One case of many uncovered.
George ,   Canada   (10.20.09)
The classified information this Jewish scientist possessing is highly desirable from all countries including probably American allies, and they are willing to pay big money to have it, but the fact that he deliberately chose Israel as his client of destination, shows the personal benefit is not the only driven motive. It shows the level of loyalty this American born Jew to the Jewish State. This case can be generalized on all Jewish Diaspora and communities regardless of the country of birth, no matter if we are talking about a descendant of hundred generations back. As the history has shown, Jews never been loyal to any country they lived in, were born or grow up. America shares with Israel lot of its military and high tech secrets, but it is never enough. This is just one case that surfaced for public.
24. Why is Israel in the Headline if it was an FBI STING!
E ,   United States   (10.20.09)
25. #6
Marilyn ,   USA   (10.20.09)
It's kind of maybe a romantic notion that perhaps even some Israeli's have, that spys are doing this for Israel's security. If they wanted to help Israel's security they'd be living there and jion the IDF or something. Spys are just not that loyal of people.
26. THIS CASE IS FULL OF HOLES!!!!
Heather Czerniak ,   Milwaukee, USA   (10.20.09)
OK, so the FBI sets up an American by calling Nozette and arranging a meeting. Then he goes and allegedly agrees to be a spy for Israel. Then the news story reads that Israel and the Mossad were in no way involved with Nozette at any time. This case does not fit the mold! 1)They contacted Nozette, not the other way around. 2)The FBI posed as Mossad agents to lure Nozette. 3) They have him drop off the top-secret info in a P.O. box. A P.O. box?! Are they kidding?! There is already plenty wrong with this picture!
27. socalmaverick, hold your fire!
Acadian Canadian ,   Vancouver, Canada   (10.20.09)
First, the case doesn't quite fit the mold of the typical spies-for-the-other-guys case. The FBI approached Nozette, not the other way around. Second, any federal employee working in the area of national security will tell you that using a post office box to deliver top secret data is one of the worst methods imaginable. The USPS has master keys to all their boxes, which can be easily duplicated. And third, impersonating a foreign agent to nail one of your own is entirely laughable unless you have reason to believe they are already up to no good, which was not the case with Nozette. An FBI agent calls him out of the blue and offers him a job as a spy for Israel and he is immediately hooked? Come on! And fourth, they will also have to prove that they did not threaten his life for refusing to cooperate. Sure, he had ample time to report them to his employer, but they'll also have to prove that 1) he didn't report it and 2) if he did, did his superiors take him seriously or just make a nonchalant promise to report it to the FBI and arrange to have him protected? Did they ask him to act as bait to nail the alleged Mossad agent? Yes, there are already a lot of unanswered questions and the Obama Administration, given its precarious policy in the Middle East, will certainly have its hands full explaining its role in this case.

A wise move by Israel NOT to get involved but I bet elements in the US try and make it that way
