Accidental yes. But there is such a thing as gross neglegence. The killers aren't new to the country, they've live here there entire lives. They knew that kids wander freely through the streets on YK. They knew when they started how risky it was to drive wildly on a day that people walk through the streets. 9 years seems kinda steep for stupidity. But I understand the parents need for vengeance.

im not defending their actions. but im against discriminating against them because they are arabs drivers. An accident is an accident whether done by an arab or jew, whether the victim is arab or jew, whether the occasion was kippur or fitir eid. i know should i was the father of this poor girl, i would ask for life imprisonment for them, but judges must be emotionless, less to be racist when making a judgement.

It may be a gross negligence, but there're also agrravating circumstances - he did know it was Yom Kippur, he did go driving recklessly in a Jewish village , not at his home village/ maybe he wanted to scare people not to kill, but his ride was intentional. I'm a Russian living in Israel, but I do know better than to drive on Yom Kippur or even speak on a mobile outside my place, as it may upset people next to me, and it's only natural to show respect to your neighbours nonwithstanding what faith they are. On the other hand, I remember a case when a jeep of a hot-shot Tel-Aviv lawyer rammed into a car of a Russian immigrant woman killing her and her child. The lawyer got away witgh a mere slap on his wrist - community service, as he expressed his deep regret ( he was also talking on a mobile at the time of accident). This is absolutely outrageous in my opinion, and also the case of a would-be religious judge who ran over an Ethiopian immigrant woman and was pardoned by the judge for his religious piety, and a woman was told - Now welcome to an Israeli society, you've been run over by a believer. This is sick, and must be dealt with. Judiciary system can't be like that, if we want to stay a democracy.

My sister was seriously injured in an automobile accident 8 years ago where the driver of a dually (a big pickup) recklessly drove down the emergency lane in bumper to bumper traffic. My sister and others had pulled in there after an accident. The pickup driver hit the 18 year old girl who was exchanging information with my sister after the accident and killed her. Guess how much time he spent in prison: 4 years.

This is a case like your sister's where the driver is a negligent idiot, but no one accuses him of murder. In such cases, maybe 2 years, 4 years, maybe 8 years is enough punishment. In that case, the state prosecutor did not even file manslaughter charges against the driver Yagmur Otman. In this case, there was no negligence.
