1. I Agree!
Christy ,   Boston, US   (10.27.09)
2. what about the palestinians who live there?
michael ,   sao paulo, brazil   (10.27.09)
And what do you propose to do with the Palestinians who live there? Expel them? Give them Israeli citizenship and voting rights?
3. I would like to disengage from PA controlled areas
disengagement ,   is good for Israel   (10.27.09)
Let PA have gate to Jordan, Palestinian queen Rania will surely feed them.
4. #3, they are already citizens of Jordan...
Danny   (10.27.09)
5. #2Michael, there is a reason he did not answer that question
David G   (10.27.09)
That is the most obvious question one can ask when discussing if Israel should annex the West Bank. The reason he did not mention it is because either he does not have an answer or, the answer is so impalpable or unrealistic that it will not happen. Personally I would be cautiously supportive of an “East Jerusalem option” for the area, namely giving all the Palestinians in the West Bank green cards and the opinion of citizenship, on the condition of national service. To those that that advocate the so called “voluntary transfer option” find me the nation(s) that will take them in and the billions of dollars it will require, and then we will talk.
6. Expel/Exterminate All Palestinians
Adam ,   Australia   (10.27.09)
That is the next step afterall, isn't it? Otherwise this annexation will result in an Arab majority in the lands of "Eretz Israel".
7. G-d GAVE Israel to the Jews, not to the arabs, not to the
Bunnie Meyer ,   Los Angeles, CA USA   (10.27.09)
Indians, not to the Americans, but to the JEWS. The arabs are squatters and the left wing government officials want to kneel and bow and worship the UN, but it was G-D who gave the land to the JEWS, not to anyone else.
8. I also agree...
Malone ,   Hfx   (10.27.09)
The pals have no legitimate claim.. They only wanted this land after they saw Israel prosper. As usual, they want something for nothing.. Where is their history, coins, ruins, writings, etc? Jerusalem is not even mentioned in their Koran. Take it all back!!
9. You are so wrong it hurts me
Diehard Zionist   (10.27.09)
I may be more Zionist than you, but I am still able to realize that your perspective is archaic and regressive. We cannot annex the territory without annexing the population and I don't want 5.6 million Palestinian + 1.7 million Israeli Arabs in Israel do you? Leave the the ruins and the tombs in Judaea for museums and lets give the Palestinians their own state.
10. #2 - We could set citizenship standards like France?
Historical Observer ,   NY   (10.27.09)
In France, you are not a citizen by birth or just because you live in the country. If the refugees wish to become citizens, they deserve to apply and become part of our country. Expelling people is not a value Israel is known for. Our arab neighbors like Iraq expelled Jews and all it did was set one arab group against another in war. No matter who you try to through out, you'll always find another group to blame for your problems. Refugees want to live peacefully and happy, well at least some do.
11. Exaclty right on all points! The arabs
BJL ,   usa   (10.27.09)
can then decide if they want to live there in peace or leave to the real palestine-Jordan.
12. what about the 2.5 million arabs?
dennis ,   tel aviv   (10.27.09)
so moshe whats to become of all the arabs currently living in judea and samaria? Should Israel extend them citizenship or should we ship them off some where out of our conscious
13. can we be realistic?
zion22 ,   Israel   (10.27.09)
14. u can give the arabs 3 options:
Liron ,   Ariel.Israel   (10.27.09)
1. residence-ship in Israel, just like east-jerusalem arabs. citizenship in jordan. all political and civil rights will be managed by jordan, the origin of many "palestinians". there is an option to create small autonomous regions with jordanian civil management. 2. immigration to non-nation states like US,canada,Australia or New-Zealand. i'm sure some muslim and south american countries will be willing to take in immigrants who can contribute to society and come with basic means to take care of themselves. this can be assured by israeli and maybe EU-US compensation and rehabilitation program. many "palestinians" (41% by recent arab survey) want to immigrate. such a procedure will cost much less then the yearly donations to the PA. 3.deportation in case an individual or a group will participate in terrorist activities or death penalty for the mass murderers. this solution is the best one for jordan, because a palestinian state in the west bank will threaten the monarchy in 2 ways: 1.uprising of jordanians defining themselves as palestinians, inspired by what their bretheren achieved. 2.security threat from the palestinian state itself. after all, fatah's charter clearly calls for the establishment of a palestinian rule over both sides of the jordan river. arafat said it many times over. oh,and what about gaza? give it to the egyptians. it's theirs to begin with. about 40% of gazans have family ties in egypt and have nothing to do with west bank arabs.
15. As always, no answer what should happen to Pals living in WB
Observer   (10.27.09)
except this: "...not to deprive Arabs of civil and humanitarian rights, but to ensure them". Does that mean one man, on vote; or Apartheid state?
16. Emigration.
Ron B. ,   Lod   (10.27.09)
A century ago, some Zionists believed that Arabs would voluntarily leave if they were offered sufficient monetary incentive. In the 1930s, this idea was revived as part of the Peel Partition proposal. That proposal would have given the Jews in a tiny area, less than half the size of Israel within the green line borders. It made sense to think of transferring Arabs out of that tiny mini-state if they would be willing to go or if someone (the British) would do it for us. The idea does not die. Now it is applied, by some, to proposals to transfer not a few tens of thousands of Arabs, but several million Arabs, who would supposedly be enticed to leave the borders of the Land of Israel, so that Israel could then annex the West Bank and perhaps Gaza. If we want to reach a lasting peace in the M-E, this option should be faced very seriously. More about transfer of populations during last century at: http://xrl.us/bjcgx
17. it's about time isnt'it !! arabs too will enjoy it.
...   (10.27.09)
only politics doesn't want the good for their people. we should overcome diff'cies straight between peoples and get rid of socalld leaders who preach peace to prepare wars
18. Professor Dann's proposal is, initially,
Robert Haymond ,   Ashdod, Israel   (10.27.09)
shocking for its compelling effort, spareness, inciteful analysis of the historical context which he describes and lack of any prevarification (no political correctness) whatsoever. In fact, all of Israel's experience indicates that giving up land and/or sovereignty will not appease the Arab population. According to them, we do not belong in the middle east except under their hegemony, According to them, we are always the "occupier". So, what's the point of waffling? What's the point of not stating outrightly what belongs, and has always belonged, to us, and claiming it? Our ambiguity only earns us disrespect. In the end, Professor Dann suggests that the only viable solution is a one-state one including all of Jerusalem, the Golan Heights, Judea and Samaria minus Gaza. Now I have to get my mind around this.
19. Do it, send the Arabs to Jordan
Steve   (10.27.09)
20. I agree too
Abdullah ,   Nablus, Palestine   (10.27.09)
You are the man. Let's go for it, one man one vote and we all live in peace
21. to #20: you get no vote! you are a citizen of jordan!
get out   (10.27.09)
22. Incredibly racist!
Einar ,   Norway   (10.27.09)
This article is so racist that I'm appaled! The arabs will enjoy it, too? Are they children, then, who'll enjoy being taken care of by the grownup jews? Like how the Europeans tried to present colonialism? Is this the jewish "white man`s" burden toward his unfortunate lesser-developed dark little cousins? Maybe thats the reason for the checkpoints and raids, too? Some kind of educational programme against the kiddies? Like, the responsible parent punish his children, and so on? Or maybe you are just thinking of shipping them East? Build som railway tracks East, and put them in cattle cars? No, wait, didn't someone try that before, some years back. With another group of people regarded as troublesome untermensch? How come extreme racism seems to be so common in Israel these days? Espousing the same views in any democratic country would make you an outcast.
23. Well said, Well written. Thank you!
Ryan ,   Jerusalem   (10.27.09)
24. The Canadian Model
Yisrael ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (10.27.09)
Create cantons based on ethnic population. Give the Arab ones autonomy, like Quebec. Create a constitution that ensures Jewish hegemony and the Jewish nature of Israel. Then we Jews will have no fear of one man, one vote, and the Arabs will control 90% of their lives, without the ability to vote us out of existence.
25. Sovereignty now
Ora ,   Jerusalem   (10.27.09)
Yes, finally someone with correct thinking and the courage to speak out.
26. Horror vision
Frankie ,   Tel Aviv   (10.27.09)
DANN is a DAMN lunatic: if his vision would become true, Israel woild be a state with an Arab MAJORITY - Finis Iudaea. The demographic bomb.Or can this Dann organize a transfer a.k. a. ethnic cleaning?
27. censorship
A B   (10.27.09)
the talkbacks on this site are censored. i sent in a comment several hours ago which does away with many of the comments here simply and clearly, and it was therefore not posted.
28. #22 Einar racist?
Rachel ,   Jerusalem   (10.27.09)
why is it racist? Democratic principles do not mean every group gets their own country. The only just solution is to work within the existing laws, which 1) recognize Israel's rights to all these lands 2) Israeli law which REQUIRES Israel apply Israeli rule, not military rule to all Jewish National Lands 3) recognize the Civil rights of non-Jewish inhabitants. Let me ask you this though: Having Israeli citizenship would mean right to vote... where in the Muslim world do non-Muslims have the right to vote? I am curious. Any answers? If so, please cite your sources.
29. Emet
Adir Dishy ,   Toronto, Canada   (10.27.09)
Fantastic article. Anyone with any real understanding of the conflict knows that the 'Palestinians' have absolutely no desire for a two-state solution, rather want the Jews out of the Middle East. It is the responsibility of the Israeli government to resume control of the West Bank in accordance with Torah Law, and general Israeli security.
30. Yesss !!!! ynet ,you got it now !
Trumpeldor ,   eurabyeh   (10.27.09)
This this the key to the conflict.
