Eradicate the LEFT!!   (10.27.09)
JStreet is funded by George Soros/ Fenton Communications/New America Foundation / National Iranian American Council /Arab regimes(Qatar, Egypt,Saudi Arabia) THESE ARE ISRAEL'S ENEMIES
3. Just one problem
Ricardo Macher ,   KarneiShomron Israel   (10.27.09)
I see just one problem with this article. The writer assumes that J-Street cares about Israel and they don't! They just care about selling the world a liberal image so everybody will like them. They just forget that Jews tried that before and it never worked, if you are Jew, they hate you, if you abandon your religion they will hate you the same, just that they wouldn't respect you either!
4. Comment
Mohammad ,   Jordan   (10.27.09)
I hate to agree with the author that the two state solution is so complicated and has a lot of flaws in it, so what is the substitution? I believe that the most Ideal solution for this conflict is to have one state for everyone to share!! Why should i give a sh*t about the race or the religion of my neighbour? Why dont we take USA, Canada, Australia...etc as examples to follow where people from different back grounds live with each other in peace (Jews and Arabs live in those countries side by side!) Isnt reasonable to conclude that the Idea of establishing a country based on a particular race is an evil one (hence the two state solution is never the best one)
5. Hence Two-State Support Is Anti-Israel
Moderate Jew ,   New Jersey, USA   (10.27.09)
It is myopic and irrational to believe that Israel will survive very long thru the eternal population transfer and brutal occupation of Palestinian land, plus the bombing of Iran now with US technology. If executed as as sustaining the status quo, Israel would directly cause a global economic winter and several wars resulting in the loss of our USA as Israel's only remaining enabler & supporter ... not smart for anyone.
6. So 1/2 the Jews in Israel are "bad for the Jews" too??
David ,   Los Angeles   (10.27.09)
The Far Right really is throwing everything it can at J Street! Every piece of garbage it can find. Really pathetic.
7. Jstreet IS the call for action> against them!
Truthteller   (10.27.09)
THis organization is the only Jewish org invoted to speak with the president, in spite of overwhelming support for other orgs by the Jewish community. This is Obama's (and the traitor Emmanuel) method--to attempt to not just placate AIPAC but actually ignore them while meeting with a pack of self haters who have steeped themselves in visions 99% of Israelis KNOW is unrealistic. Any Israeli who would support them (Ami Ayalon!) should try to recall the bus bombings. Thank you Mr. Oren for having the wisdom to not endorse them with your presence.
8. JStreet
Albi ,   Ashkelon   (10.27.09)
Seems to me Bibi also wants 2 states. It is only the extreme right and our more intelligent adversaries in Europe who want a single state. Ironic! And why always dump on the left? it is rightists who give back territory. Shamir was the first to shake hands with Arafat--and support the fledgling Hamas party as a foil to PLO. Begin, not exactly a self-hating Jew Leftie, returned Sinai and promised self rule to the Palestinians. Bibi, also not a Leftie traitor, signed Taba and returned Holy Hebron. And Sharon? And Olmert? Come on people, There is no effective Left, so quit looking for straw men for your own ineptitude.
9. Dear Mr. Sherman, this column should be addressed to
Marcella   (10.27.09)
the Israeli government instead. You write: "... it is the substance of its proposals - not their motivation - that makes J Street such a grim threat to the Jews and the Jewish nation-state...." And "...Indeed, J Street seems committed to method rather than outcomes. Why else would it insist on persisting with failed policies..." And so on... Each of those concepts are more or less applicable to the government of Israel. PM Netanyahu supports a two-state "solution". And he is committed to the method of "peace talks" while oblivious of the experience of Israel's withdrawal from Gaza, apparently unaware of the consequences that an Arab state in the heartland of what is now Israel would entail for security and survival. I am extremely puzzled by the way columnists I respect and admire are consistently aiming their guns at outside opponents, such as Iran, Goldstone, the US government, J Street, the United Nations, and so on, but don't address the MOST IMMEDIATE issue, which is the way the Israeli government is facilitating an agenda that is detrimental to the survival of Israel. It's Israel's own appeasing attitude that ignites increasing hostility. I'm sure that if the Israeli government became assertive and pro-active and did the following two things, some of the vitriol from abroad would subside. 1) If it called a conference and declared that the territories are legitimately Israeli because of solid foundation on international law (League of Nations Mandate). The US is violating its own agreements and treaties when it demands Israel's partition. If Israel is challenged, let the courts decide. International law is on Israel's side. 2) Israel declared that the government's first and foremost duty is to protect the people and the land of Israel. And that although the IDF will uphold the highest standards of any army anywhere, it won't sacrifice Jewish lives to satisfy unreasonable demands by entities such as the UN that have a separate set of standards for Israel. J Street can go on lobbying, and the UN can go on writing reports, but Israel is a sovereign nation that needs to act with self-respect and the right set of priorities.
10. #6
Marc ,   Beit Shemesh   (10.27.09)
Obviously David (#6) has no idea about the make up of Israel. At most 25% support the ideas JStreet promotes and that includes the arab Israelis. Nothing worse then total mis-informed liberals. Face it the Israeli center has seen the true face of the Palestinians and chose a different path.
11. An excellent analysis
Norman ,   Kfar Saba Israel   (10.27.09)
This is one of the most balanced and sober analyses of J Street's goals. Unfortunately, extremists - left or right - are notoriously impossible to convince.
12. J Street's university arm approves "Pro-Palestine" slogan
Eric ,   Tel Aviv   (10.27.09)
"J Street's university arm has dropped the "pro-Israel" part of the left-wing US lobby's "pro-Israel, pro-peace" slogan to avoid alienating students. " " individual student chapters would be free to add "pro-Israel," "pro-Israel, pro-Palestine," or other wording that they felt would be effective on this issue, since "it's up to the individuals on campus to know their audience." 13. To#6David: There is no FAR-right in Israel!
The extreme left is ,   the enemy!   (10.27.09)
The extreme left is you and a tiny minority in Israel(Media/Judges=Dictatorship)! The rest of the country is Center-Right!
14. “Pro-Israel” No More
Y Hartuv ,   Israel   (10.27.09)
There has been a debate as to whether J Street is “pro-Israel.” Well, one branch of J Street now says it isn’t or at least doesn’t want to say it is anymore. Because that’s a bad thing, and people might take offense. http://calevbenyefuneh.blogspot.com/2009/10/pro-israel-no-more.html#links
15. Martin Sherman writes consistently
Robert Haymond ,   Ashdod, Israel   (10.27.09)
excellent articles for Ynet and they are appreciated. Following the powerful article by Moshe Dann in Ynet, I think the case for a two-state solution has been decimated. "Moderate Jew", Talkbacker #5, is an example of the ignorance of the situation in Israel today and typifies the mentality of safe, snug and ignorant J-Streeters in the USA, as he calls the socalled "occupation" "brutal" . In fact, Palestinian Arabs residing in Judea and Samaria are much better off economically than they would be were Israeli Jews to pull out. Many Arabs can be found earning a living in construction activities in Jewish villages and in trading with Jews. The problem for Palestinian moderates is that they are betwixt and between. On the one hand, Hamas representatives, though relatively small in number, enforce their ways on the rest of the population through intimidation of a religious nature as well as through violent threats. On the other hand, the modern world has come thrusting through the traditional Arab lifestyle. This means that family and tribe are no longer the centerpiece of life activities, children do not obey parents the way they used to, elders are not respected, juvenile delinquency is on the rise and all this is equated to Israeli influence and results in resentment on the part of the Palestinian population. It is called "modernization". To some degree, Palestinians residing in Samaria and Judea are correct. This same situation has taken place (and still is taking place) in many other locales around the globe. We Jews need to understand what are the bases of resentment on the part of Arabs residing in Israel proper as well as in Samaria and Judea. Talkbackers on this forum who are, or say they are, "Palestinians", such as "Noor", are absolutely hopeless in explaining the nature of these resentments. As a result, we end up at cross-purposes when we should be educating one another. I would really look forward to intelligent articles by educated and interested Palestinian Arabs who would inform us about the real perceptions about Jews, both positive and negative, held by Arabs residing in Judea and Samaria as well as the social and cultural conflicts which they are currently experiencing. I think such (objective) descriptions and analyses would be enlightening. Short of Ynet introducing writers of this nature, I would appreciate it if any Readers could lead me to the relevant sources.
16. What's all the fuss about Jeddah-Street?
Paqid Yirmeyahu ,   Ra'anana, Israel   (10.27.09)
17. Wrong, David (#6). Few in Israel support the J Street agenda
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, USA   (10.27.09)
Yes, a few marginal leftists like Colette Avital will fly in to sup with J Street, and Peres, who can't pass up an opportunity to insist "Ve vant piss!", sends his greetings. But even Meretz supported Israel's Cast Lead operation in Gaza, which J Street couldn't bring itself to defend. J Street's naivety was made evident in a meeting over the issue of sanctions on Iran with a prominent left leaning Israeli. Astonished to hear J Street minimize the danger posed by Iran, the Israeli told them to "Get real!"
18. J-Street
Joe ,   Israel   (10.27.09)
Let all of the J-Streeters come and live in Sderot among the falling rockets. Not being actively involved in fending off terrorism, they find it very easy to talk. Come here where the action is. You idiots, we are fighting for our very lives!

20. to Arab extremists like #5
Professor Beilinson ,   Princeton Univ, Prin   (10.27.09)
j-street has nothing to do with Jews. Indeed it has a few Jews but a few Jews voted for Balad and Hadash in Israel. jstreet is closer to Balad.
21. J Street
graczek ,   Maryland, USA   (10.27.09)
The organization and presence of J Street is most gratifying. It is good to see that some Jews finally are realizing that zionism is unacceptable in the world and that there are those among the Jews who want to end that project with a minimal loss of life, limb, and property. I realize that J Street cannot say this right out, but that is the objective. They are deserving of worldwide support.
22. J street
David ,   USA   (10.27.09)
Hey Guys , you need to read the title as ; Why J Street is jew pardise ??
23. two state solution would be preferred if!
geoff   (10.27.09)
If all the answers to these questions were answerable verifiable and guaranteed .If not the further solutions need to be developed which do not threaten Israel in future.
24. #4 - You're so naive
Elder of Zion ,   Israel   (10.27.09)
Do you really expect devout Muslims, poisoned by years of incitement in schools and TV, to live side by side with Zionist Jews? You want examples? Please, look at Sweden - how the Muslims speak about Jews (not just Zionists) in their Stockholm mosque. ("disease", the "brothers of apes and pigs") Why doesn't Jordan accept Palestinians from the WB? You are the same people, Arabs, there's no Palestinian people, it's just a political label given to Arabs under Israeli occupation. Can you imagine Jews leaving Jews under foreign rule and supplying them with weapons instead of food and water?
25. J-Street & R-Goldstone
Jan ,   Netanya   (10.27.09)
Both of you need a wake up call ! And if you don't wake up, pack your bags and go and live on another planet, cause you are not welcome here!!!!
26. To Logic #19:
Robert Haymond ,   Ashdod, Israel   (10.27.09)
Thank you for the references. I am familiar, of course, with Daniel Pipes, not with the others. Didn't know, however, that Pipes has undertaken to analyse the conflict from a Palestinian Arab perceptual basis. I look forward to the new information.
27. AND YOUR POINT IS??
Sergeant David ,   Herziliya,   (10.27.09)
This is the typical waffling and drivel that is to be expected from a so-called "scholar" who has deliberately put pointless word-paraphernalia around his primitive point to make him sound reasonable! What an absolute load of hot air. While J Street may pander to the 'liberal' and 'myopic' view of certain Americans and Israelis, and is therefore deserving of reproach. Sherman offers no alternative to the problem except to reject it. Does that mean we should just carry on with the current situation? We have military supremacy, Jews are safe here now as a majority and a republic, we have good trading terms with Europe and Asia, special agreements and an economy that is always on the verge of flourishing! We will still have that if J Streets' 'policy' would be adopted. We will lose all of this if we adopt Sherman's pathetic attitude. It is HIM that would put Jews in jeopardy. He wants what is good with Israel, but not talk about what is bad. Which is settlements, soldiers being too trigger-happy with Arabs, demolishing Arab houses for not allowing Arabs to build houses in the first place, taking land, you know, THE OCCUPATION!! So Sherman, gever, stop smoking all those drugs in California and ask yourself, honestly, without using pointless big words and sentences; What more do you want? We need to take steps forward and not blame the Arabs because you don't want to give up on the bad things.
28. What does the writer jeopardize?
Avi ,   USA   (10.27.09)
First of all, while it is clear what the author is arguing against, it is unclear what he is arguing for. This is not a very constructive approach. Perhaps the author does support a two-state solution of some sort ... Then I will challenge him to answer the issues he raised. J Street's position does not preclude any solutions to these problems; any solution is welcome and should be reviewed. However, what I suspect is that the author really supports a one state solution. My challenge to him is then: how can you preserve the Jewish and democratic character of Israel in a one state solution? Thousands of knowledgeable Israelis already have said that the answer to this question is: you can't. So Mr. Sherman, please stop the name calling and fear monggering and engage in a constructive dialog.
