Shalev: Rights Council obsessed with Israel     Yitzhak Benhorin
31. Israel needs to look in the mirror
Israel touts itself as a liberal democracy or the only democracy on the ME, so it needs to live up to its propaganda title. Anyone who rejects the apartheid comparison in the West Bank is blind to reality. In Cast Lead, the IDF destroyed and damaged thousands of houses in Gaza. Not only are these people still homeless because Israel will not let in building materials, they are deliberately kept hungry and desperate. This is appalling! If Israel wants the rest of the world to believe that it is a democratic and not a cruel, apartheid state, then it needs to end this horrible military occupation.

33. #22 Utter garbage - "Palestinians" dont even recognise...
...Israel. They refuse point blank to take even the basic steps ...by actually recognising the other side. Whether you or your anti-semite friends like it or not - there are 6 million Israelis in Israel who have rights to be there too. You and your type really talk a lot of shit.
Australian Guy ,   Australia   (10.31.09)
34. UN and world organisations better off without Israel
Israel's sole interest in the UN is its own propaganda. Who needs it?

no, it is not the same un sir. this un and its assembly is quite different than the un that encouraged a jewish state and supported it. go look at who represented the un general counsel then during 1947 and see the difference in representation. those that reporesented the un then were democratic free countries including latin america. THEY WERE NOT COMPRIZED OF 118 ISLAMIC ARAB COUNTRIES WHICH TODAY REPRESENT THE UN IN SUBSTANTIAL NUMBERS AND HAVE THE MAJORITY OF VOTES. during 1947, the league of nation which later became the un, was full of democratic countries. today, the majority governing the un are arab and muslim countries. so, you see the difference???????? having mostly muslim arab representation in the human rights counsil and general assembly doesn't bode well for israel and it can never win even if the truth is on her side. the un as we know today is hijacked by islamists that rule it and make decisions in it. can you imagine countries such as iran, lybia, syria, saudi arabia, sudan, etc.. who sit in the general asembly have most of the votes by their sheer bigger number??? can you imagine the above countries accusing others of human rights violations?????? what are these countries if not the center of all human rights violations, murder, repression, unfree press, forced imprisonment, murder and assassination of rivals and reformists, imprisoning of those whow disagree and question their tulers; authority, hanging of gays, hanging of teenagers, forced labour, acceptance of black and asian slavery, murder of those who have another religion, persecution of minorities, cutting off limbs and heads as a court metted punishment. ARE THESE THE BEACONS OF DEMOCARCY AND HUMAN RIGHTS YOU ARE CALLING THE UN OF TODAY??? YES, INDEED! hameed aboughaze, iranian

36. #24 History has known many Jews who hate/hated other Jews
there is nothing unique about them or you. You are just serving the anti-Semites and provide them an excuse to hate Israel. There is nothing wrong with being critical of Israel as long as you apply the same standards to all countries in the area.
Fran ,   Newport Beach, USA   (10.31.09)
37. Wiz @ 5, this is not the same UN of 60 years ago.
Today's UN is nothing more than just old toothless League of Nations, which will get disbanded eventually and probably sooner than we all think.
leo ,   usa   (10.31.09)
38. Since 29 Nov 1947 the UN has not done a single positive...
...thing about the nation-state of the Jewish people, nothing!!! I wonder, why...??

39. #22 You need to call a spade a spade!
There is no Arab Palestine as you claim! Before 67 these same arabs called themselves southern Syrian.....not PAlestinian! You know as well as i do that these same Arabs are from Egypt, Jordan and Syria! Tell me, why doesnt Egypt take Gazza back? Why doesnt Jordan allow its displaced citizens to come back to their country? Why dont you ever accuse them of sanctioning and isolating their own people? MAybe you ignore the clear facts because you are a Jew hating hypocrite? And you are dead wrong....the majority of the world isnt stupid and see what the Arabs are trying to do. If anything, the majority of the world are sick of the Islamic extremism thats invading their countries! Look what has been happening the last few weeks in America and England!
JAy3 ,   Israel   (10.31.09)
40. #24 twist the facts!
Its the other way around....you muslims for the last 1600 years have been obsessed with wiping out all jews! ANd your claim of ethnic cleansing and apartheid has no foundation to base itself upon! The arabs here in Israel have a much higher standard o fliving and far more rights compare to any other Arab country! You read the PA Charters? It calls for the ethnic cleansing of Jews. Show me any Israeli official document that calls for ARabs genocide! .....You cant! The arab homes are demolished only because they have no building permits....same law as in any country and yes.....plenty of jewish homes get demolished too, but the media never reports that! And the fact that we gave them Gazza completely disproves your fallacious claims of natural expansion! The UNHRC is obsessed with condemning Israel, just like you, because your jealousy and hatred of Jews blinds you to the clear facts!
Jay3 ,   Israel   (10.31.09)
41. :: Why obsessed?!
"Gabriela Shalev took advantage of the event in order to attack the Geneva-based Human Rights Council and accuse it of discussing Israel more than any other country and isolating the Jewish state intentionally." How dare the Geneva-based Human Rights Council accuse Israeli of war crimes?! Never mind pointing out war crimes the Geneva-based Human Rights Council had the nerve to focus on Israel 'more than any other country'. Surely there will be those here that will accuse the UN and Goldstone of anti-Semitic tendencies? "who she said were obsessed with turning Israel into a monster and ignoring its democratic nature.". Who are these terrible people trying to demonize Israel? More importantly 'why' are they trying to do so?
Matty Groves ,   Fairport   (10.31.09)
42. #24, feel better now?
When you look into the mirror what do you see. An internet warrior occupied with waging war against an evil apartheid nation of 5 million Jewish devils consumed with overtaking the surrounding lands of several hundred million poor, peace loving Arab victims. Simple logic would dictate the fallacy of your hypothesis. There is sufficient historical and factual evidence to blow holes in your pathetic rant. But the greater issue is not the lack of veracity or intelligence in your screed, it is that your mind is infected with a virus which detaches you from reality and causes you to bend the truth to accommodate your hatred. Can you find it within yourself to simply hate Jews because you were programmed to do so and try to be more responsible and intellectually honest. Hate us for the joy it provides you but do not attempt to foolishly rewrite history in order to justify your madness.
Steve   (10.31.09)

Israel has been trying to disengage from the Palestinians without success. The Palestinians avoid every effort and opportunity to cooperate with Israel for this separation. Why? Because they're dependent on Israel for all their needs including employment. Water rights are a shared responsibility and the Palestinians do not fulfill their responsibilities. Family planning would certainly be a step in the right direction for a people so concerned about water. The land Israel sits on belongs to Israel or in some cases, is disputed. If you're bothered by Israel, perhaps it's because your version of morality is corrupt and you're nothing but an apologist for terror.

You both display a scary ignorance, self righteousness, stupidity and hatred. I won't bother trying to educate you because obviously you don't won't to be bothered with facts, however I would suggest that you simply shut up and stay away from Ynet, a news media of the country you hate so much. You, # 24 : Where does the self hatred come from?

Israel is stealing "their water and land"? Do you realize that Israel actually provides water to the West Bank? What stolen land are you talking about, a pitiful Anti-Semite, descendant of Quisling? The whole world is fed up with Israel? I wonder what would the world be fed up with had Israel posses oil and gas fields.....

46. Ah Dear Johan, how quaint a leftist euro world view
you have.....your post reveals a true lack of any real knowledge as it pertains to either modern israeli/ME history or ancient, both of which are eternally relevant to this discussion. Have you ever taken a college course or ten on the subject? What did they teach you.. What websites do you read? What do you perceive the role of the arab palestinians in all this? the complete and total victime?....wow! Do you even know what apartheid is? apparently not

47. #22 & 24 - no ethnic cleansing
"The Arab Exodus For the flight and fall of the villages it is our leaders who are responsible because of their dissemination of rumors exaggerating Jewish crimes and describing them as atrocities in order to inflame the Arabs ... By spreading rumors of Jewish atrocities, killings of women and children etc., they instilled fear and terror in the hearts of the Arabs in Palestine, until they fled leaving their homes and properties to the enemy." -- The Jordanian daily newspaper Al Urdun, April 9, 1953. "The mass evacuation, prompted partly by fear, partly by order of Arab leaders, left the Arab quarterof Haifa a ghost city.... By withdrawing Arab workers their leaders hoped to paralyze Haifa." -- Time Magazine, May 3, 1948, page 25 ...Hazam Nusseibi, a journalist at the time, told the BBC years later that the deliberate fabrication of the rape charge "was our biggest mistake" since it caused the Palestinians to flee in terror. And don`t forget that the refugee problem was created by a war initiated by the Arabs. Hazam Nusseibi, who worked for the Palestine Broadcasting Service in 1948, admitted being told by Hussein Khalidi, a Palestinian Arab leader, to fabricate the atrocity claims. Abu Mahmud, a Deir Yassin resident in 1948 told Khalidi "there was no rape," but Khalidi replied, "We have to say this, so the Arab armies will come to liberate Palestine from the Jews." Nusseibeh told the BBC 50 years later, [in 1998] "This was our biggest mistake. We did not realize how our people would react. Israel and the Arabs: The 50 Year Conflict," BBC. Secretary-General of the Arab League Azzam Pasha made clear in an interview with the BBC on the eve of the war (May 15, 1948): “The Arabs intend to conduct a war of extermination and momentous massacre which will be spoken of like the Mongolian massacres and the Crusades.” for more on why the Palestinian "exodus," in his Arabs, Edward Atiyah, secretary of the Arab League office in London, wrote: "This wholesale exodus was due partly to the belief of the Arabs, encouraged by the boastings of an unrealistic Arabic press and the irresponsible utterances of some of the Arab leaders that it could be only a matter of weeks before the Jews were defeated by the armies of the Arab States and the Palestinian Arabs enabled to re enter and retake possession of their country." And from the Near East Arabic Radio, 3 April 1948: "It must not be forgotten that the Arab Higher Committee encouraged the refugees to flee from their homes in Jaffa, Haifa and Jerusalem, and that certain leaders . . . make political capital out of their miserable situation . . ." and from Habib Issa, writing in Al Hoda, on 8 June 1951: "The Secretary General of the Arab League, Azzam Pasha, assured the Arab peoples that the occupation of Palestine and of Tel Aviv would be as simple as a military promenade... He pointed out that they were already on the frontiers and that all the millions the Jews had spent on land and economic development would be easy booty, for it would be a simple matter to throw Jews into the Mediterranean. -- Brotherly advice was given to the Arabs of Palestine to leave their land, homes, and property and to stay temporarily in neighbouring fraternal states, lest the guns of the invading Arab armies mow them down." ..boastings of an unrealistic Arabic press and the irresponsible utterances of some of the Arab leaders that it could be only a matter of weeks before the Jews were defeated by the armies of the Arab States and the Palestinian Arabs enabled to reenter and retake possession of the country. Atiyah, Edward, The Arabs, (London: Penguin Books, 1955), p. 183

48. of a\ll the countries that think about human rights
i would have expected from uk to be a decent opposition to the arab propaganda. should you have wits and use those balls under your brows - you might realize you are heading towards a national disaster because you misinterpret the situation. wake up ye brits. what a shame- england who was once a country that supports human right and democracy now has become a slave to tyrannies as far as public opinion is concerned- uk is no more than half-witted, that pays lip tax to dictatorships

49. have you ever stepped out of your own lil' corner ??
from your reply- you know nothing about the current situation, driven by fools that never step out and smell the doodoo, you are living in ignorance. i wish you would be sincere - and buy a ticket to travel a bit into the conflict. you so blatantly brag your opinion about, but have you ever experienced life? and btw. - who are you to threaten with your sanctions or bloat morality - a grandson of whom?

Who needs the UN? So many problems in the world but the UN only has time for Israel. Iran has one of the worst human rights records in the world and threatens genocide against Israel while the UN remains silent.

1. Only while the blockade/ siege lasts. Response must be proportionate, within International laws, and 99% landing in an empty field. 2. Yes, Israel will cause the collapse of Israel. Defending Israel-see #1. 3. We will never keep another people oppressed, under siege, blockaded, treated like sub-humans, having their land, water, dignity and freedom stolen, so rockets and mortars will NEVER rain down on my neighbourhood. You should go get some education before lecturing others with this crap fabrications. 1n 1956 three countries attacked egypt (G B, France and shitty Israel) in 1967: Israel attacked first in 1973 (not 72 idiot) was the first Arab war on Israel ro restore their occupied land of 1967. SOME PEOPLE KNOW, OTHERS VOMIT CRAP, and you are one of them

I'll tell you where I was - if your stupid little brains can take it: I was occupying and tormenting 4 million Palestinians and impozing worse than nazi practices on them> I was stealing what remained of the land of palestine and sending herds of settlers into their land. I was building seperation walls and segregation rules in the name of democracy. I was building a "SHAME UNTO NATIONS" state called israel

Israel took part in the 1956 war to halt the constant attacks by Fedayeen from Egypt. The war itself was planned by England and France (Who for some reason you do not call not Shitty) to restore control of the Suez canal to England and France. Although Israel fired first in 1967, the first acts of war were made by Egypt: The massing of the Egyptian army on Israels border (a clear violation of the 1956 cease fire agreement), Egypt forcing the removal of the UN peacekeeping force and the blockade of shipping to the Israeli port of Eilat were all acts of war and gave Israel the Causas Belli to fire the first shot. Who fires first is not the issue, its the first act of war that is the issue

1)Must Katyusha rockets ,qassams and mortors be allowed to rain down on israel without responce????? Resistors responce 1. Only while the blockade/ siege lasts. Response must be proportionate, within International laws, and 99% landing in an empty field. ---------------- Galuts reply initialy when gaza was evacuated in 2005 ...there was little or no blockade...and israel and the jewish community bought the greenhouses so gazans could produce thier own food...gazan reponce was destroyed greenhouses and daily qassam and mortor launches eventualy Israel shut down crossings to protect itself....and asked that qassam fire please stop. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/9331863/ http://www.zionism-israel.com/ezine/gaza_green.htm http://www.reuters.com/article/environmentNews/idUSL3111115220080131 http://www.wnd.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=49710 http://hedgehogcentral.blogspot.com/2006/11/whatever-happened-to-those-gaza.html ======== 2)must israel accept that eventualy it might cause colaspse of israel....? does Israel have a right to defend itself ??? Resistors responce 2. Yes, Israel will cause the collapse of Israel. Defending Israel-see #1. Galuts reply ========= you want a sterolized war ...had ww2 been fought that way thier would be swasticas flying in every country hitler didn't respect comprmise and restraint on the part of the allies... nor does hamas on the part of Israel....israel just wants qassam fire to stop ...just doing equal exchanges as you suggest will do nothing but keep the conflict going for years. israel and Gazans deserve to be able to live peacefuly and productivly side by side recognizing each has a right to Exist ... and not have a HUDNA hanging over thier head. HAMAS in thier charter has stated thier goal is to evict Israel from the mid east. unless that is removed from the charter and concrete steps are taken to demostrate good intent at peace then you will find Israel keeping its defences up. ============ 3)would you allow rockets and mortors to rain down on your nieghborhoods without responce from your governments ...????? Resistors responce 3. We will never keep another people oppressed, under siege, blockaded, treated like sub-humans, having their land, water, dignity and freedom stolen, so rockets and mortars will NEVER rain down on my neighbourhood. Galuts reply Hamas ,Fatata ,&Hezbulah would be at each others throats the moment Israel disappeared be cause of the Hate and bitterness the have groomed for each other ...the UN would be there for decades trying to prevent them from annilating each other ...probably make the Pal/israeli conflict look like a sundayschool picnic. so you make presumptions that some rouge nation or terror groupe wouldnt...ummm in this world there are power hungry rouge people...this is the kind of people I was speaking about in Question #3...you side stepped the question.
