1. Perfectly Reasonable
Jacob Erickson ,   Holon, Israel   (11.03.09)
Just when they get their monthly bill there will be an extra charge for "Haradi Filter"
2. is religious world so weak that a little surfing is going 2
(11.03.09)
damage it
3. HEAVEN FORBID
Yossi ,   Haifa   (11.03.09)
They might come across sites that advertise jobs !
4. Unbelievable
seriously? ,   cincinnati, oh   (11.03.09)
If you don't want to look at a site, DONT! Why must society conform to the religious minority? To please a minority, Israel inconveniences the majority time and time again (various segregated bus lines in Jerusalem, almost exclusively Shabbat elevators, etc.). You want to live a religious lifestyle, go for it..mind your own business and don't impede on my right and choice to live as a secular.
5. So let those youngsters stay in their closet
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (11.03.09)
of the dark middle ages . If they want to surf the net , they will always find a way to do it . Forbidding it makes it only more attractive .
6. Kosher Internet.
Jock Strap ,   Jerusalem,Israel   (11.03.09)
Its called censorship, for those without the real courage of their convictions.
7. great just like in Tehran
Avi ,   israel   (11.03.09)
Go for it !
8. YnetNews would be filtered, no news is good news.
Bunnie Meyer ,   Los Angeles, CA USA   (11.03.09)
9. #6 It's called protecting people from random content.
Roman ,   Lod, Israel   (11.03.09)
The Internet is pretty much full of pornography, criminal activity, and content which may be considered inappropriate for a younger or observant person to read. There's stuff I don't want to run into by mistake, and I'm willing to pay for the service. For that to happen, the service needs to exist in the first place. That's all there is to it. "just don't look/read/open" is a very nice concept that has absolutely no bearing with reality in the 'net, where opening the wrong link is a fine recipe for getting porn. And some of us... don't want it. And don't want our kids to see it.
10. Cancel he Internet its that simple
Mark ,   Jerusalem   (11.03.09)
The best thing to do would be what I done, since I can not afford to be on the Internet on my mobile I cancelled the service, this way you save money and you do not have the problem to go into forbidden sites.
11. #2 you sad little man
MARK ,   Jerusalem   (11.03.09)
If temptation and desire is not common aspect in your day and life I would probably get yourself to a shrink, I mean there could be mutiple reasons why you wouldnt find a beautiful naked women tempting. Where I come from (planet earth) every parent finds it important that there kid does not have absolute easy access to porn etc.. whenever they feel like it.
12. is it better for them to be repressed homos?
eddie ,   london   (11.03.09)
pornography is not only available ont he internet, it can be bought in a regular store. The rabbis do not give a damn about healthy psychology of heterosexuals. When they are repressed in same sex environment they often turn to same sex gay acts. But the rabbis think this is natural, and don't make any fuss about that.
13. Oi Vey
Isaac Hunt ,   Tel Aviv   (11.03.09)
Surely the answer is to pass a knesset law banning the sale of Internet enabled phones to kippa wearing folk. Job done, Next.
14. Talksbacks!!
Moshe ,   Jerusalem   (11.03.09)
Some people write such rubbish on these talk backs. Stop the attacks on the religious, the homosexuals and write something that makes more sense.
15. #2: it is time to face facts about internet porn
Besalel ,   Great Neck, NY   (11.03.09)
Lets put religion aside for a moment. This is isnt a religious issue, at all. The uninterrupted stream of internet pornography and 24/7 lust assault that our youngsters face has turned an entire generation into porn junkies. If you are not religious you may believe that porn also has its time and place but is that time 15 hours a day and the place everywhere? No shelter anywhere? You need it on your mobile? No, my friend, some filtering will help everyone from the religious zionists to the most secular. This is a human issue. It is a shame that once again the seculars left it to the religious to address alone.
16. Why all these objections?!
Anne K ,   Petach Tikva   (11.03.09)
Goodness me! What a lot of hateful anti-religious sentiment comes bubbling out of the woodwork in the Ynet talkbacks. Why is a "kosher internet" or "kosher cellphone" a problem for any of you objectors? No one is forcing you to buy such a thing. The Rabbis just want there to be an option available for the religious community. And I can assure you that there are plenty of non-religious teachers, parents or just ordinary folk, who would be happy for such a kosher filter too.
17. Ridiculous!
Lily ,   Binyamina   (11.03.09)
My family and I surf the net everyday for the information and fun we need, never once encountering porn. Yes, it is that easy to steer clear of it, just as it is that easy to look for and find it. Give me a break, this is total nonsense and bordering on censorship within the private sector. The marriage between religion and politics proves complicated enough as it is, it's justified, however, b/c we are a Jewish state. But, lets leave the private sector off limits for there it becomes a slippery slope.
18. #11 hallo! I am a woman...
Sally Forth (& #2) ,   Jerusalem of course!   (11.03.09)
and a heterosexual monogamous one at that and so what I find tempting is the beautiful naked body of my husband! Being a heterosexual monogamous woman means that I don't feel threatened by the different information available on the Internet. Being a heterosexual monogamous woman means that I respect the choices and life styles of others without feeling threatened by them. Being a heterosexual monogamous woman means that I am proud of, and happy and comfortable with my choices. Being a heterosexual monogamous woman who believes in God and in my right to free choice I know I have the correct level of curiosity and understanding for myself and that I don't need to impose my views on anyone. This also means that I know myself well enough to know what my levels of temptation and desire are. Being a heterosexual monogamous woman who is also a confident mother I know that I have taught my children well and that at each age they have grown through I have given them appropriate and good tools so at the end of the day I know that I can trust them to know what is good for them. Being a heterosexual and monogamous woman who is a terrrific wife and mother I know that I am just fine as I am! I do hope MARK in Jerusalem that as a man you will find your own levels of comfort with your temptations and desires and that if you don't you will be capable of having enough self knowledge to take yourself to a psychotherapist when you realize that you need one! Wishing you a lovely rainy Tuesday...pa'amim key tov! and may you soon learn that there are many good things to write and see on the Internet! :)
19. filter
marcia l. ,   ft ldle fl usa   (11.03.09)
it sounds like, "filter=censorship"
20. filter
marcia l ,   ft ldle, fl. usa   (11.03.09)
i spend at least 2 hrs on the internet everyday. when porn finds its way in i just block it. if you dont want to watch it you just delete it. "filter coffee not news" sounds like taliban law.
21. They're asking for the option for themselves, not
Adam   (11.03.09)
demanding that sites be blocked for everyone. Some people from the 'enlightened secular' community seem fine with live and let live as long as you're not living a religious life. If they demand everyone stop, you're right to say no, but a sizable community saying a company should offer products that meet their needs, too, is not some religious coup d'etat.
22. "Demand" filter? Go out an develope one...
Andy ,   ramat hasharon   (11.03.09)
and quit demanding already.
23. this is a joke right
marko ,   tel aviv   (11.03.09)
this is a joke right ,or just one more example of how the relgious are trying to run or lives
24. Israel is not China
Yaniv ,   Israel   (11.03.09)
The religious filter could be sold as an optional feature from all cellphone providers. Free market and consumer choices is to be respected.
25. OK idea, bad way to do it
Yakov ,   Tel Aviv   (11.03.09)
In principle, the idea of protecting our children from many things is good. Exposing our children to reality, and allowing them to make life decisions with knowledge is healthy. Forcing a "protected" world upon the same children is very dangerous. Who decides what is "kosher"? What are the checks and balances, and how can they be enforced, and by whom? Will these protected children (or anyone else) be properly prepared for the realities of the world? Will we produce children whose minds are now molded exactly how the Rabbi's envision? Would we trust ANYONE with such power, as power always corrupts. Open societies (The Netherlands) expose children to the realities of the world, discuss them openly and have shown clear benefit in this approach. They have some of the lowest rates of unplanned pregnancy, rape, drug abuse (YES), etc... The tighter religion and/or government controls its' people, the more the same people become dysfunctional. An open society promotes a healthy society. Don't believe it? Do the research yourself, just do it with an open mind.
26. Accidental Porn
M. Hartley ,   Atlanta, US   (11.03.09)
I've had access to the internet for 14 years and I can't remember even one instance of porn accidentally showing up on my monitor. Instead of trying to "legislate" morality, wouldn't it be much better to teach proper values and define what's right and wrong and explain the difference? I don't want my kids/grandkids not to get drunk or look at porn for fear I'd kill or disown them, but because it's stupid and/or disgusting behavior that can have all sorts of unpleasant consequences. I'm sure my kids aren't too different from anyone else's and if there's one thing mine don't want, it's giving me reasons to think or simply knowing in their hearts that they're about to be stupid or disgustinh. I "inherited" this ability from my mother, but I can silently recap a second or third bottle of beer and move it back into the fridge with one look. Simple observation of the interactions between my kids and theirs tells me that the "looks" been passed on and still work quite well :-)
27. wow chill
Moshe ,   Jerusalem   (11.03.09)
Wow lots of anti-religious feelings here, grow up! Did a rabbi tell you that you must get kosher anything? No its an option for people who want it. I personally am charedi and i have a regular (non-kosher) phone but rather then get 3G service I stuck with my old 2G sim card when i got a new phone because I need SMS service and no internet. At work I have regular internet but when my kids are old enough to use a computer and go online, I will absolutely get filtered internet on the home computer. Not because of a religious thing but because there is plenty of content that a kid can find even by accident and does not need to be exposed to. So get over the religious who are "out to ruin" your hedonistic and secular way of life and start having fun...
28. As M. Hartley writes in her 26
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (11.03.09)
to see porn you have to look for it . Porn does not come "accidentally" on your screen . You have first to search for such a site , and then it comes . But , Oy Vay , if a youngster sees it . He/she will be a lost one for those "rabbanim" , nebech !
29. to 27
marko ,   tel aviv   (11.03.09)
the first haredi with a brain on this talk back
30. It's ok
P ,   Philadelphia   (11.03.09)
We'll just make sure that there are plenty of proxies of various sorts so that anyone who's using one of these crippled internet plans can get around the blocks. It's too easy for peer pressure, family decisions, and other social factors to be used to make an "let them do what they want" decision into a "let them force others in their community" one. Fortunately, no solutions like this are really technically workable, and we can make it so that anyone who doesn't actually want to suffer this can easily dodge it.
