1. Asymmetry of warfare, including terrorism
z   (11.02.09)
2. YNet especialy thrives on negative stories about orthodox
m   (11.02.09)
You are right, many times I wrote, why are there no positive stories about the observant world--there is no lack of those. But how would they feed the fires of hatred against the Jews who observe the laws of Torah, they are an anathema to the secular world, more threatening than the arab terrorist who are called "militants". Can you imagine the pleasure of the editor who could finally put the large caption "JEWISH TERRORIST" here?
3. Would it be too much calling it internalized Antisemitism?
sergio   (11.02.09)
It has always been a very "appetizing" item in gentile media who are remote from familiarity with the "Jew" or any sympathy toward the "Jews", to point at the "Jewishness" of a criminal, after all Jewish criminals have been a rare occurrence for centuries. In Israel the media, who is remote from familiarity with the "religious" or any sympathy toward the "religious", love stories involving the rotten apples in the "religious" world: after all the incidence of criminal behavior among "religious" Jews in Israel is comparable to "Jewish criminality" in the gentile world.
4. What is religious
adi ,   Raanana   (11.02.09)
As we expect more from the truely religious G-d fearing person, what makes a person religious, these people are not religious they can look like they are because of the clothes they wear and the books that they hold in their hands, but if they are beating and abusing children, they aint religious, not in my books, and when you meet a truely religious person and there are many of them you will know it, just by being in their presence
5. Not the first jewish terrorist
Edan ,   Tel Aviv   (11.02.09)
Terrorism is commonly defined as using violence and threats, usually against civilians for political or ethnic motives. There is no question that he is a terrorist, just like Baruch Goldstein and various others. It is pathetic to see someone take offense at the fact that he is being called a terrorist just because he is a member of the same community.
6. It's because "religious" persons are supposed
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (11.02.09)
to behave in another way . When they commit a crime they are acting against two laws . The civil one and the religious .
7. :: Religious terrorism
Matty Groves ,   Fairport   (11.02.09)
Yair Borochov seems to have a problem acknowledging that religious Jews are capable of 'terrorism' even though such terrorism is evident nearly everyday in the WB. Borochov also neatly omits mention that Teitel is also responsible for the pipe bomb attack on Professor Zeev Sternhell as well as murdering two other Palestinians over a decade ago while he was visiting Israel not to mention inciting hatred towards homosexuals/etc. Obviously it is Teitel's deeply-rooted *religious* ideology that drove him to commit such terrorist acts. Much like the deeply-rooted *religious* ideology that drives other Jewish settlers in the WB to commit acts of terror on innocent Palestinian civilians. If it is any conciliation to Borochov Teitel's lawyer will probably claim the catchy and colorful term "mental instability based on religious convictions".
8. Torah, not media, pick on the religious
Naftush ,   Israel   (11.02.09)
The principles of being each other's guarantors, of being our brothers' keepers, of reprimanding a fellow Jew who misbehaves, of doing justice, of hating all evil, of refraining from murder, etc. etc. -- they come from the Torah, not from hostile media. Hostile media cannot establish collective responsibility, but the Torah can and does. I say this specifically as a bearded American-born veteran oleh who wears a kippah and lives in Yesha.
9. Because It's a Chillul Hashem. They make us all look bad.
Akiva ,   Maaleh Adumim   (11.02.09)
10. Not at all, religious going astray brings attention
JPS ,   Efrat   (11.02.09)
Strange, but I see secular scandal in the news almost every day. Organized crime leaders, rapists, murderers. Oy vay voy even the evil people who killed a little girl and dumped her body in the Yarkon River. All of them get catchy names too. Only the religious seem to be objecting because they have been caught out in hilul Hashem. An avera (sin) is an avera is an avera. I recall a disgusting rape case in which the haredi perpetrator had witness after orthodox witness testify in court what a decent guy he was in order to "lighten" his sentence for raping his underage niece. If the religious did not commit crimes, then they wouldn't get written up in the papers for it.
11. True

14. I want an answer
Lioness ,   Israel   (11.02.09)
Was the beast who killed the family of six, which included a three year old girl and a four month old baby, a religious Jew???????
15. I hope the shabak will investigate poster number 12.
God help us. ,   Jerusalem   (11.02.09)
And how is teitel NOT a terrorist?! He murdered people based on nationalistic / idealistic motives. Borochov, pick your battles and your timing more wisely.
16. suggested slogans for the writer
Matt T.   (11.02.09)
"the Pharisaic paparazzo" "crime reporter in black" "the kosher krime reporter"
17. Whats hard to understand?
Avi ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (11.02.09)
As a gentile hates a jew, a secular hates a charidy (as he feels less then him)! So they try to knock the charidy down by criticising them, to feel better...
18. The "Suitcase Murderer" not religious
Kyle ,   Southpark, CO, USA   (11.02.09)
The murderer of Rose Pizen was given a "catchy media nickname" and he was not religious. Just wait and the media will come up with a catchy nickname for Dmitri Kirilek.
19. stop being extremists everybody!
eddie ,   london   (11.03.09)
The charedim also use derogatory language towards: other chareidm; zionists (orthodox or not); secular, reform. Secular or non haredi Israelis serve in the army risking their lives or being kidnapped. Haredim don't even recognize the IDF's legitimacy, or say prayers for them even. Seculars feel they are being shortchanged, and hated, and at the end of the day, the Haredim dotn recognize the State f Israel, except to get budgets for their yeshivot. This dichotomy has existed for the last century in many forms. So nobody should be surprised when teh secular media take their vengeance on the religious. I don't agree with it, but there is a deeper underlying problem.
20. The Ten Commandments Stand
Michael ,   USA   (11.04.09)
The first murder recorded was Cain against Abel. No Ten Commandments yet or Jewish nation yet. But, G-ds observation of the act was the same, It was murder! No religion was present then, just those who followed G-d and those who did not. We have to remember that much separation of beliefs into religion is based on people's disagreement with each other. Often this is done without anybody asking G-d first. So, the next question is, how is this profitable for the Nation in the public Arena? It shows that the Israeli Police department can be relied upon and by arresting this individual they are showing that they have a desire to do justice and uphold one instruction from the Ten Commandments.
