Uproot all conspiracy theories    Avi Dichter
1. no way, I still don't believe it
and no I don't seek to desecrate or cause hatred, I want the truth because like many I feel who ever was behind the assassination was in fact doing so with a true calculated political agenda, and not just the nut job they pinned it on.
Brian ,   Tel Aviv, Israel   (11.05.09)
2. nobody believes it
that's what's worrying them. They're ruthless
(11.05.09)
3. If there'd be justice in Israel, there'd be no conspiracy
Israel's justice system is probably the most corrupt in the world! These conspiracy theories is a direct result of the corruption in the government, especially in the self-elected stronghold called "justice department", especially by those evil ones who think of themselves as "the elite and above the law". BOY DO THEY STINK! MOST people do NOT believe that Yigal Amir was the one who assassinated Rabin and even many of the radical blind left believe that the actual killer is still on the loose.
Sam   (11.05.09)
4. Comment
The popularity of conspiracy theories is explained by people's desire to believe that there is - some group of folks who know what they're doing
Mohammad ,   Jordan   (11.05.09)
5. Conspiring.
Conspired to do it,they do not necessarily know what they are doing. For this they would need to be prophets as well.
Henry ,   Haifa, Israel   (11.05.09)
6. Israeli Justice system and Judges.
I for one have complete faith in the Israeli Justice System and the Judges. Its the only branch that I trust completely ,lets hope that its never compromised.

7. Hypocrites
Not that I believe that the murder was justified, but what eats me up is the fact that almost every time some birthright, school, camp etc., comes to 'Kikar Rabin' and talks about what happened they always state: A JEW DOES NOT KILL ANOTHER JEW. Quite hypocritical if you ask me. Rabin HIMSELF killed Jews on a ship called the Altalena, almost killing one of the greatest leaders this country every saw, Menachem Begin (not to mention the Jews that have been murdered because of the Oslo 'Peace Plan' till today). Although a tragedy, the fact that the Jewish people became so divided resulting in the murder of a Prime Minister, people still have to put things into perspective. The Israeli government has romanticized Rabin's murder enough, mainly putting an evil eye on the religious right. There are loyal citizens of this country who still live in caravans since the disengagement, where are the governments tears about that?
Adir DIshy ,   Toronto, Canada   (11.05.09)
8. The way democratic states refute conspiracy theories
is by engaging in more speech not Bolshevik efforts at less speech and the suppression of those who ask questions. The assassination of JFK was no less traumatic or horrific then Rabin's death and yet the US appointed 2 gov't commission's to study whether there was a conspiracy. Any objective researcher would see that there are many unanswered questions concerning the death of Rabin & the role of Carmi Gillon, Avishai Raviv and the obvious forensic evidence. Something is rotten in Denmark and its time for the Israeli gov't to appoint a non partisan panel to conduct an open and delving investigation. Until then Dichter and other GSS leaders will have no credibility and be seen as official wags playing the emotional card that no one is buying today. Rabin was great therefore lets not look into who actually killed him because you'll desecrate his holy name. Give me a break.
Moshe ,   Eternal Jerusalem   (11.05.09)
9. is this thought control?
seems a bit ant-demcratic to me. there are so many unanswered questions that need to be addressed. it appears a bit unfair if not even evil to ark that we put the conspiracies out of our minds. is mr. dichter trying to tell us not to question. is he trying to tell us how to think. if he were a religios or haeredi man people would copmlain that this is religious coersion. i'm not saying that there was a conspiracy but b4 you write an article like this you must give the public some answers to the conspiracy related theories. it is only fair.
Bobby   (11.05.09)
10. uproot the conspiracy theories
by answering the questions. Dichter can start with the questions that he mentions and go on to the many other unanswered questions. Dichter does not give us answers in this article and I for one will do my own thinking and not take his word for it.
Zev ,   Israel   (11.05.09)
11. AD vs ABY
- Avi Dichter: "Rabin conspiracy theorists seek to promote hatred through their lies" - ABY: Avi, there is only one element of the official story fits: that Rabin was shot. The rest, including Rabin's projected legacy, can be taken apart in seconds and understand to be as faked and to be fake. Sorry. Maybe the hate-mongers are others? Maybe you work for them?
Ariel Ben Yochanan ,   Kfar Tapuah, Efraim,   (11.05.09)
12. HMMM -
Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin was murdered by an evil man who sought to murder an idea, cut off a path, and thought he is a messiah or at least his emissary. Our duty is to guarantee that this despicable murderer rots in jail until his last day and that he and his supporters know that he did not murder an idea or cut off a path. I BELIEVEi THAT JEHOWAH AND REALITY OF HISTORY, WILL PUT TO NIL, ALL WRONG IDEAS AND PATHS !!!. Arn-Orao.

13. Space aliens in UFOS together with the Vatican did it
They were all operating as agents for the CFR!
barry chamish ,   florida   (11.05.09)
14. The order Rabin gave to murder 16 Jews on the Altalena
was also a conspiracy theory?
Yaniv ,   Israel   (11.05.09)
15. Orwell's 1984
Dichter is effectively arguing that the security forces should censor all free speech, discussion thougth and research. The state should control the media, and censor anythign it doesn't like. how dare General Dichter propose a totalitarian state. He is no different to Mr Ahmadinejad. Imagine that an election was rigged in Israel. Dichter would clam down on any discussion or protests. He is the enemy of intelelctual and political freedom. I suspect he knows somethign was wrong with the official story on rabin, otherwise he would't make such absurd statements.
eddie ,   london   (11.05.09)
16. 'seek to promote hatred'...
what a weak defensive statement.
ata retzini?   (11.05.09)
17. No conspiracy - a screwup
There was no conspiracy to kill Rabin. The (successful) plan was to slander the 'religious right', by having a religious-rightist (who didn't live on a 'settlement', even!) 'attempt' to 'kill' Rabin (with blanks). Rabin was not shot, injured nor killed at Kikar Malchei Yisrael that night. (And certainly NOT by the accused, according to all of the forensic evidence, ie paraffin test, etc. - he shot NO bullet other than perhaps 'blanks'). He was safely celebrating the PR-policy coup at a location nearby, while waiting for the 'cooked' reports of his 'narrow escape' to be delivered to the media, when he WAS shot fatally ONCE IN THE CHEST by one of the persons present who was enraged at the scam just pulled. One in the chest was all that person could do because in this case, the bodyguards knew it was not an ACT, and shot him to death immediately (unlike the guy who's in jail for 'the murder'). Look into the condition of the dead body of Y. Kuriel for proof of that. Now it was a whole new ballgame, so instantly, Rabin's dead body gets two additional shots from point blank in the back and we have a guy railroaded into life imprisonment to cover the 'fashla' (screwup), and the 'religious right' still gets handily blamed 14 years later. Don't be stupid enough to believe 'assassination conspiracy' or 'lone gunmen got too close', it's neither of those, the dumbasses like Gillon, Dichter, etc. couldn't pull off a conspiracy even if they wanted to, and the personal security guys are too good at their job to let some lone-whacko live even if he could have got one shot off.
X   (11.05.09)
18. Exhume the body. Disprove the conspiracies
Simply exhume Rabin's body and run an open investigation. That would easily disprove the conspiracy theorists.
Beitar   (11.05.09)
19. Agree and disagree
While I agree with the writer, conspiracy theories are not productive where evidence to the contrary is overwhelming. For now I accept that the evidence was and is overwhelming. A couple of troubling things appear in Mr. Dichter's argument. While I voted for George W. Bush in 2000 (sadly) - after Bush declared his intention to establish a Muslim-terror state in Israel - President Bush ceased being "my" or "our" president. The same should have held true with Rabin. Prime Minister Rabin conspired secretly in Oslo - along with Shimon Peres and others - to bring arch-terrorist and mass-murderer Yasser Arafat and his PLO thugs into the land of Israel. Rabin sought to make peace with these killers while at the same time demonizing the settlement enterprise as well as peaceful settlers. This "idea" that Rabin and others pushed at the cost of better than one thousand innocent Jewish lives snuffed out by PLO, Hamas, Islamic Jihad and other Muslim terrorists were incited by Rabin's peace partner(s). Many more thousands were maimed for life. In light of all of this, it seems odd to me that Mr. Dichter frets over the possible "murder of a [discreditable] idea" or that its murderous "path might be cut off.

20. End The Biggest Conspiracy Theory: Conspiracy By Atmosphere
While Dichter is basically correct, he curiously ignores the biggest conpsiracy theory: the so-called "Conspiracy By Atmosphere." Since Rabin's assasination, the Left has tried to capitalized on the outrage and revulsion at his murder by claiming that the RIght and right-wing politicians created an "atmosphere" which facilitiated his murder. That charge was repeated just last week by the former Speaker of the Knesset, so it is a mainstream idea. It is also hogwash. Every statement by the murderer indicates he was a fanatic who cared little what this or that politician said. True, Rabin was subject to very harsh critcism for his policies. That's Israeli politics; Rabin gave as goods as he got. He once called the settlers a "cancer" on Israeli society. And the Oslo process did indeed risk Israeli saftey and in hindsight caused numerous Israeli deaths. So let's retire the "Conspiracy By Atmosphere" theory first, and then we can deal with the nutcases.

21. Political assassinations
always give rise to conspiracy theories. We still hear elaborate nonsense about a shooter on the grassy knoll and the curious murder of Lee Harvey Oswald by a figure with known underworld ties the following day. Sirhan B. Sirhan is alleged to have been brainwashed a la Manchurian Candidate. The fact of the matter is you don't need to be particularly brilliant to effectuate an assassination; all you need is access, a weapon and live rounds. In the case of John Kennedy and Robert Kennedy, the assassins achieved their purpose (no, there is no "Kennedy family conspiracy" afoot, either; both brothers happened to pursue careers in politics). The attempts to assassinate Gerald Ford and Ronald Reagan failed. Squeaky Fromme and John Hinckley, Jr. are both wackos; there is no doubt, however, that had they succeeded, the assassinations would have been viewed as a part of a wider conspiracy (in the case of Squeaky Fromme, probably involving Charles Manson in some fashion). A lunatic with access, a weapon and a bullet is all that is needed. No one is invincible; it is therefore unnecessary to drum up complex conspiracy theories to explain away the actions of a madman or madwoman.

22. #17 Yigal Amir always admitted killing Rabin
and was proud he did it and and did it alone. Don't kid yourself. However, the problem started afterwards. The Left, losing popularity, used Rabin's assassination as a club with which to berate and harrass everyone else. They have been bugging the country annually with this guilt trip. However, they always forget that Oslo was drafted behind Rabin's back by his Leftist coalition partners (and Peres), and Rabin was made an offer he couldn't refuse: sign, or we quit and collapse the coalition. Before Rabin put his signature to Oslo, most of the incitement against him came from the far Left. They denounced him as a militant warmonger responsible for the 'brutal suppression' of the 1st Intifada.

23. Two wrongs don't make a right.
The gravity of the the crime of the assassination of Rabin does not detract from the far greater damage and destruction wrought on Israel by the Oslo accords and the PLO Trojan Horse that was brought into Israel's midst. This self-flagellation over Rabin's assassination is like constantly mourning over the loss of the assassinated Austro-Hungarian Archduke Ferndinand, instead of over the loss and destruction in World War I.

24. What is someone had murdered Neville Chamberlain in 1938?
Would that have changed the way Chamberlain is remembered by history?

25. Ironic that Avishai Raviv was Rabin's own agent provacateur!
Rabin's agent provocateur against the Right was successful, so it's ironic that Rabin never got to thank Avishai Raviv for his loyal service to the Left.

26. All from a guy that has villified everybody on the right
Accusing them of causing the assassination. Why is that not included?
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (11.05.09)
27. All Evidence indicates a conspiracy
1) The Kempler video shows that Amir's gun did not shoot rabin - he did not react to any of the discharged shots. 2) Peres is seen outside Rabin's Limousine talking to security guards. 3) Peres presented a false song sheet, with fake evidence, blood and 1 bulelt hole. If it had been in rabin's pocket, and folded, it would have 4 holes when opened, not one. 4) It took over 20 minutes for rabin to arrive at Ichilov, even tho it is 1 minute drive. he arrived in an ambulance. 5) Dr David NIv , a pain specialist at Ichilov was assasinated , as he was a material witness.

28. No 17 - how do u know the motive of the shooter?
If you claim he was shot once by a guard out of anger, what evidence do u have for it? inside info?
eddie ,   london   (11.05.09)
29. one thing
rabin tried to make some deviation of the wrong way as he saw it but he was killed but the wrong is wrong no one want a real solution but sure it is a wrong way can not return do not know to where do not try to change .sure it is a merdure with or without conspiracy it is wrong path as it is the same

30. Let's clear up the many inconsistencies.
Dichter can't impose his views on the Israeli public. There are hundreds of inconsistencies with the "lone rightist assassin" theory. Let's have a real investigation and clear up the many inconsistencies. Some of the inconsistencies are very compelling. We must let the chips fall where they may. Israel is not going to let the "lone rightist assassin" theory stand simply because it benefits the left.
