1. Who made Israel ruler of the Seas and when did become the UN
lydia ,   Brisbane   (11.06.09)
Hilarious when you take into account that they have violated more UN resolutions than Saddam Hussein
2. What's that sound coming from the UN?
Chatich   (11.06.09)
Crickets? Oh, wait, a faint voice... "We're sorry, we're all far too busy sanctifying sir goldstone's scripture, dispensing cash to hamas and helping Iran with its nuclear bomb project. We have no resources left to deal with this lot. Just halt all settlement activity immediately and have a nice day. This is a recording."
3. I Have No Faith In The UN
Not Jewish ,   USA   (11.06.09)
I wish you Jews good luck with your grievance but you folks are dealing with some real slime balls at the UN. I wouldn't be at all surprised if the UN passed another resolution condemning Israel for boarding that ship and confiscating the illegal arms cargo.
4. Shalev will become an expert at wasting time working at the
Bunnie Meyer ,   Los Angeles, CA USA   (11.06.09)
UN. She could be more effective in helping Israel by operating a falafel stand and sending the profits back home. The UN is a vast wasteland of no value to the world.
5. Holding breath.......
Danny   (11.06.09)
sure UNIFIL will do something now!!
6. i'm not holding my breath
david ,   new york   (11.06.09)
somehow, i don't suspect that the UN is going to be doing a hell of a lot about this. at least the israeli ambassador gave ban ki-moon a good chuckle. its like asking a child molestor to be a chapperone on a class trip.
7. squinting eyeglasses
observer   (11.06.09)
what is urgently needed from Israel is to probe IDF over a Goldstone report; not posing a mirage.
8. in retaliation
observer   (11.06.09)
Hamas in Gaza had recently test-fired a rocket that flew 37 miles into the sea. That range would put the Tel Aviv area under threat of a missile attack.
9. UN countries shouldn't remain idle?
observer   (11.06.09)
The Shayetet 13 naval commandos had murdered stone throwers during the WB intifada and had carried out several extra-judicial murders. Since then the unit has remained idle. So, a deal with a ship can reactivate the image. Proof!, what prevented the ship from slipping alleged arms-filled containers into the sea, if it had tried to evade capture as Barak said?
10. Israel learned lesson, said Hezbullah recipient not Hamas
observer   (11.06.09)
25 Jan 2009: international media reported that an Iranian-owned merchant vessel flying a Cypriot flag was boarded early last week by US Navy personnel who discovered artillery shells on board. The ship was initially suspected of being en route to delivering its cargo to smugglers in Sinai who would transfer the ammunition to Hamas in Gaza, but the US Navy became uncertain over the identity of the intended recipient since "Hamas is not known to use artillery," The Iranian ship’s captain showed the US boarding team documents recording the Syrian port of Latakia as its cargo’s destination. it was a Cypriot-flagged, Iranian-owned commercial vessel, and the maritime law is less able to justify stop and search operations against such ships.

12. Piracy
Shlomo Kamra   (11.06.09)
Now Israel has added piracy of the high seas to its portfolio of crimes. Shame!
13. To: No. 12
Sarah B ,   New York / Saviyon   (11.06.09)
Marco, you are confusing "piracy" with "lawful interdiction."
14. To: No. 9
Sarah B ,   New York / Saviyon   (11.06.09)
Oh, stop your silly blather. Terrorist organizations are, by definition, extra-judicial. Therefore, the thousands upon thousands of Jews that they have murdered over the past sixty-one years are thus, by definition, extra-judicial. Slip a 20 TEU container into the sea? Have you any idea how much these things way EMPTY, let alone filled with cargo? Right. "Slip the armed-filled containers into the sea." Without a gantry crane? The FRANCOP was NOT a geared ship, fool. She would have required a gantry crane to move the containers she carried. You are such a fool. Moreover, it has been established that the crew of the FRANCOP did not know that the cargo included lethal contraband. Neither did the owner of the vessel. "Slip the containers into the sea." You ARE funny!
15. #14 so, Barak lied about the ship had tried to evade capture
observer   (11.06.09)
excuse me!, I have more faith in Barak's saying than in your weightless words.
16. To: No. 15
Sarah B ,   New York / Saviyon   (11.07.09)
No, I don't think Barak lied. I think you simply misinterpreted the news item or Barak was inaccurately quoted. A standard shipping container is made of heavy grade steel an is 20 feet long and 8 feet, six inches in height. The interior walls are corrugated steel, and the floors are wood set on top of heavy grade steel. Empty, such a container weighs 2,250 kilograms. A forty-foot container is the same height but, obviously, contains more steel and is twice as long. Empty, a 40-foot container weighs 3,780 kilograms. Containers are stacked one atop the other, and are locked into place to keep them in place during sea voyages where bad weather is not unheard of. There. You can give as much weight as you like to my words, but I know what I am talking about and, clearly, you do not. You cannot just "slip a container over the side." Sorry if I have in some way slighted your fragile Islamic masculinity. I promise to do it again.
17. #1.. LONGS FOR HER SADDAM & BLAMES ISRAEL
ABRAHAM ben JACOB ,   CANADA   (11.07.09)
