1. Like they ever gave up armed warfare. LOL
Cynic ,   USA   (11.07.09)
2. fatah's military wings - why is Israel surprised?
CK Tan ,   Singapore, Singapore   (11.07.09)
Back in August, the chairman of fatah's 6th general assembly announced that the organisation will NEVER give up the Aksa Martyrs Brigades. This was reported even in Israeli media.
3. Popular warfare?
Sarah B ,   New York / Saviyon   (11.07.09)
Sounds like a big old threat to me. Rather a stupid one, actually .... Besides .... didn't Abbas swear up down and sideways that all of Fatah's "military wings" had been disarmed. I guess he (gasp) lied! How fortuitous that Israel's military knew it was a lie all along. How unfortunate that most of the rest of the world actually believed Abbas.
4. You don't give them what they want, they resort to violence
Dubi ,   Kibbutz Shoval   (11.07.09)
This is called blackmailing in English. I guess they are entitled to do so since all the agreements the PLO/PA have signed so far don't forbid blackmailing. But of course, Israel will be blamed for protecting its civilian population.
5. Israel is naive! Fatah will never disarm!

6. History: Organized Arab terror against the Jewish community
Eitan ,   Qatzrin, Israel   (11.07.09)
of Eretz Israel (Land of Israel) and beyond began in 1920-21. This terror has come in waves, in campaigns as part of a long, yet to cease, war-of-attrition-through-terror. Some key dates: 1920-21, 1929, 1936-39, 1947-1948, 1950s, 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, 1990s, 2000 to this day. It began with knifing and light arm shooting of civilians in their place of work, study, homes and on the road. it continued with explosives - in parcels, cars-laden, and suicide bombers. It has been improved by high-jacking airplanes and abductions. And now we face mortars and rockets - short, medium and long distance - produced and supplied by Iran and used by its front troops on Israel's borders: Hamas, Hizballah and Islamic Jihad. The goal: Always, to extract something that in civilized society people talk about and negotiate for. The underlying cause in this case has been the total, consistent and persistent rejection of the right of the Jewish community of Eretz Israel - despite League of Nations and UN resolutions to the contrary - to establish and maintain a nation-state for a singled out people: the Jewish people.
7. It's time both sides came to grips
Danial ,   USA   (11.07.09)
Israel won't return the entire west bank, won't divide Jerusalem, and won't allow Palestinians to return to Israel proper. Those are simply the facts. Israel will have to allow Palestinians live in a self-ruled territory in the west bank. The Palestinians can start as many violent riots as they wish, it won't help. They can even start wars, but that won't help either. There are just as many crazy people in Israel and there are in the West Bank. This has been going on since 1913, it will never end! Both sides have to accept the other's grievances and understand that peace will never arrive. The both need an agreement like the egyptian-israeli peace. Cold!
8. "Israel won't return the entire west bank…"
Eitan ,   Qatzrin, Israel   (11.07.09)
This is a misconception: Israel has never taken the 'West Bank' from any lawful sovereign to be returned to. This territory was a launching pad from which Israel was attacked by the Jordanian army and captured it after having defeated Jordan in the defensive Six-Day War of June 1967. Jordan came to control the territory illegally during the 1947-49 Arab Israeli war or Israel's War of Independence by simply moving into as a result of British departure from it. Britain, prior to it, capture the territory from the Ottoman Turks during the First World War. While the territory is occupied by Israel, Israel has been doing it lawfully until and unless there is an agreement between the warring sides, i.e. Jordan and Israel, according to UNSC Resolution 242 regarding its future. P.S. Incidentally, theoretically the same holds true about Jerusalem as well except that Jerusalem, unlike most of Judea and Samaria ("West Bank") has been incorporated into the rest of the sovereign state of Israel.
9. Popular warfare = INTIFADA
Marco   (11.07.09)
10. It's not 1987
Binyamin ,   New York, USA   (11.07.09)
It never ceases to amaze how the Palestinians continually misread the facts around them. Back in 1987, Israeli soldiers patrolled Gaza and there were lots of opportunities to do "peaceful" stone-throwing intifada. In 2009, Gaza is separated by a fence, as is most of the West Bank, with gaps remaining, mostly due to foot-dragging. If intifada returns, the gaps will be built up too. If they want to protest the wall, fine, but that's not a threat of international importance.
11. PleaseWait
Marcel ,   Florida   (11.07.09)
Dear Islamic terrorists Fatah, Please wait before you revert back to your murder of Jewis men, women and children. We want to relase more of your terrorists with blood onn their hands from our Israeli prisons for the cause of peace and because moslem US president Hussein Obama is pressuring us to make some more goodwill gestures to you. We always do what we are told to do so wait until your jihad brothers are released to join you in killing more innocent Jews. Sincerely, Bib Netanyahui ,Obama's poodle.
12. Transparent, democratic self-government?
J Story ,   Canada   (11.07.09)
It's still true after all this time: Golda Meir, former Israel PM, once said, "Peace will come to the Middle East when the Arabs love their children more than they hate us." What puzzles me is why the Palestinians still have so little regard for their kids. Is it because Islam institutionalizes hatred against the Jews. I can't think of any other modern religion that still has such venomous, cultish, anger. (Provocative question: Is Islam as destructive as heroin?)
13. beware the ambush
dani   (11.07.09)
ask yourselves why the palestinians would want to revert to 'popular warfare'. do they think that this is because they can militarily defeat israel with popular warfare? no. do they think they can make israelis give up and give them what they want if they kill 10-20 civilians a month? no. they do this to provoke a violent response from israel that will (they hope) force the international community to get 'more tough' with israel. the goal is to 'create' a massacre of their own people in order give obama the excuse he needs to be more pro-arab, and to have the security council send in international troops. it may be a far fetched dream but it is the best they have got. israel must respond carefully and use force only as needed.

16. Abbas NEVER disarmed the military wing and neither he nor...
Ralph ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (11.07.09)
anyone in Fatah have any intentions of ever living in peace with Israel.
17. return to popular warfare
(11.07.09)
The comments by Eitan on the historical background have no factual basis. Palestine/Canaan has been inhabited for some 55,000 years. A minor religion Judasim was popular for some 500 years, reaching its peak in 40 CE after which the inhabitants became primarily Christain then Muslim. The latter for years tried to become independent of colonial powers. For a while Syria/Palestine existed until it was crushed by the French in bloody warfare. Now the true inhabitants, the Palestinians, have been invaded by the German 19th century national cult, Zionism. Peace will only come when there is a single secular state and the families ethnically cleansed in 1948 by the Zionists, The 1948 UN decision was legal robbery taken against the wishes of the majority. The Zionists with 29% of the population were given 57% of the country but seized 76%. They are the true descendents of Baal.

Welcome, Zaina. I look forward to reading your posts.
20. The West Bank
Paulmaximus ,   Kabul, Afghanistan   (11.08.09)
Contrary to Eitan, Israel was never invaded by Jordan in 1948. The two countries had agreed to the Jordanian invasion of the West Bank and east Jerusalem to frustrate the desire of Palestinians to have their own state. It was a pact between two evil invaders similar to the German-USSR Pact to divide up Poland. Israel successfully played the part of Nazi Germany until they could conquer the whole land.
21. #14 Zaina & Marco Spain
Sharona ,   Jerusalem Israel   (11.08.09)
314 Welcome aboard and someday we all hope to welcome you in Israel. Marco-Spain the intifada never stopped, it just became irrelevant as Israel stopped it almost entirely. To all Palis don't throw stones, use them to build with. A novel ideal for Palis but try it!
22. "Surprised" Israeli officials
Sharona ,   Jerusalem Israel   (11.08.09)
Not one "military' wing of group has ever been disarmed and disbanded and Israel knows it. Every Israeli with a brain knows it. The American Jones is training another terrorist military wing. Our gov'ts gave arms to Fatah, fools that we are. Pali goal has never been peace, only the destruction of Israel. That too never changed.
23. They quit warfare cause they sucked at it
(11.08.09)
"so that the world understands that the next step will be unpleasant and we go back to the way things were before Oslo" Oh yeah like the world cares about your arab monsters, go ahead go commit suicide we don't believe your lies any more
24. generals
Leonard ,   LA-usa   (11.08.09)
I've never seen a war won when polititians run it. I say let the IDF generals do what they think should be done. They protect the people in the short run and the long run. Good examples is Vietnam, Iraq, aftganistan and many others. Politics, it sucks...
25. Amazing: Israel can find nuclear sites in Syria, Iran... but
Nic ,   Rome, Italy   (11.08.09)
nobody in the Israeli gov't listens to Abab news??? Every blogger and person on the internet knows Fatah's Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigade is is full force supported by Abu Mazen.

28. Fatah
donna ,   st paul, USA   (11.08.09)
Israel's intransigence in holding on to illegal settlements has killed the peace process. If Israel won't stop illegal settlement building even during a peace process, how can the world expect it to come to any agreement about separate states? Israel simply is not--and never has--bargained in good faith. It has always bargained to gain time to build more "facts on the ground." Israel doesn't even have fixed borders--just waiting to see how much Palestinian land it can grab before it is forced to get serious about peace.
29. "Fatah considers reverting to popular warfare"
William ,   Israel   (11.08.09)
And the IDF considers expelling Fatah to Tunisia once again. Take your pick.
30. Resisting the Israeli Imperial plans
Basil ,   Morgantown   (11.08.09)
About 75% of Israelis stereotyped in a survey early this year that Palestinians are violent. However, Israelis ignore they are responsible for being an occupying power, ethnic cleansing, house demolitions, people in jails without trials etc.... Of course, the person on the other end will seem more violent, and Israelis have more of the luxury of the high tech weapons to seem civilized just as the Spanish did when they killed people in the Ameircas. And you feel so on top of the world and superior to those you kill, who are actually descendants of Israelites just like you, but they didn't leave, you did.
