61. This story was real important to report
Brog ,   Nahariya   (11.10.09)
who cares about a bunch of women who are frustrated that they were born without penises? Obviously they are dissatisfied with being women, perhaps sex change operations would improve their happiness!
62. Didn't he say that the Yom Hakippurim War...
Dorothy Friend ,   Tel Aviv, Israel   (11.10.09)
...was God's punishment for women soldiers wearing fishnet stockings?
63. To # 62
M. Hartley ,   Atlanta, US   (11.10.09)
I just spat coffee all over my desk from laughing. Did they wear the fishnets under their fatiques, over them or were they it? I have this picture in my head of platoons of female soldiers, loaded with equipment, but with fishnets from combat boots all the way to the waist...... Between being punished with wars for fishnets and with earthquakes for gay parades, Israel is a miracle.
64. To # 59 Rivkah
M. Hartley ,   Atlanta, US   (11.10.09)
My God, the CREATOR OF ALL THAT IS, has neither religion nor nationality. I was given good sense and a conscience, based on what the latter of which tells me I try to conduct my life. But if you need other people to teach you right from wrong, by all means, have at it.
65. To #61 :-)
M. Hartley ,   Atlanta, US   (11.10.09)
When I was oh, maybe 3 or 4, I could never understand why my brother could use a tree to relieve himself and my efforts to do the same would always end up with me having to go into the house to change clothes and shoes. One day, as I accidentally saw my brother in the tub, that mystery was solved. I went looking for my mother demanding an explanation for this injustice. Not being familiar with the technical terms, I dragged her into the bathroom, did a lot of pointing at here and there, going off on how unfair it was that I couldn't pee behind a tree and that I wanted one of "those" just for that reason. My mother, I suspect, amused at my tirade on the one hand, trying to assure my brother that nobody would cut off anything, because I wanted it, on the other hand, had an answer that, in hindsight, would have honored Solomon. She said, "Sweetheart, you may not understand it now, but if you wait a few years, you will realize just how blessed you really are, because as long as you have one of "these," you can always get one of "those." No penis envy in this family!!!!
66. it's very revealing
nr ,   los angeles, usa   (11.10.09)
how people go crazy when the rabbi expresses his opinion, which as a woman, I happen to agree with. Any jewish woman who dresses and davens like a man is stupid - it negates the unique feminine relationship to the Holy One. Men are obligated to wear tallit and kepot because they are lacking the ability to connect to the Creator without externals "devices", where women are co-Creators and have a link to the Holy One merely by their existence. How people can compare this Rabbi's with the Muslim view of women is completely outrageous. And as far as women making kiddush for themselves, old news - at least among the ashkenazi.
67. #53 I was not talking about the ordinary women you saw
Aviva ,   Jerusalem   (11.10.09)
I am talking specifically about the women who insist on marching in with a media entourage, showing off their "fashionista" embroidered talisim, and disrupting the prayers of everyone else on both sides of the mechitzah with their shouting and their insults to other women who just want to be left alone to pray quietly.
68. Not judging
Brachale   (11.10.09)
I think that before declaring all the women belonging to WOW exhibitionists, etc... people should get to know them. It is said that you should not judge others lest you be judged. Who are you to know the innermost feelings and thoughts of others?

My answers are yes to all. -One of the Women of the Wall

Rivkah   (11.11.09)
years ago about that, I think in the 1990's. She chose to please the Lord since it was my understanding that her change in attire at the Trooping of the Colors Ceremony (her official birthday) would be a symbol that the battle dress of the military is a male attire in the Lord's opinion as revealed in His word. There is a place for women in medical, technical, clerical and non-combat support occupations in the military. But battle dress and combat occupations should be male. What are the consequences of putting females and males into battle zones and combat occupations together? US women GI's in Iraq have to sleep with their backs against the wall and a loaded gun in hand to prevent rape from male GI's living in the same cubicle of four people per cubicle. Do you think that pleases the Lord? I don't think so at all. Many US Navy women sailors get pregnant on ships with no knowledge of an attack because they are attacked from behind with an automotive ether soaked cloth over the face that causes the female to pass out and have no memory of the assault. That happens to males, too: homosexual attacks with ether. Don't you think it is a little disheartening to be attacked by your battle buddies and shipmates who are supposed to be on your side but are enemies, worse than enemies in fact?
71. 64 M. Hartley: Rabbi Yehoshua said those who love him would
Rivkah   (11.11.09)
obey his commandments (the Torah and Tanakh). Either the Torah is written on the heart of a person or it is not. If it is, then obeying the commandments that can be obeyed is showing you love the Lord whose Messiah Son saved people eternally. You have a set of rules to govern your life that are Torahless is some ways. Do you know what Torahless means? It means lawless. Do you really want to be lawless (Torahless) so you can be with your soul mate husband in hell? I can assure you what he wants most since he loves you is for you not to go where he is. He wants you to believe and obey what he could not in his lifetime.
72. #68 #67 answered you
(11.11.09)
73. #68 what makes you think I don't know them?
Aviva ,   Jerusalem   (11.11.09)
I have had personal experience with "Women of the Wall" as they jeered and insulted me, together with other women who did not want to join their exhibition, we just came to the Kotel to pray and be left alone. The "Women of the Wall" came strutting in with their media entourage. Who brings a camera crew along just to pray, unless you're the Pope?
74. OK, to sum up
(11.11.09)
a bunch of frustrated loud mouth exhibitionist sickos. Making cheap use of the Kotel for their antics is 'WOE'fully pathetic as they are. Most of us are 'Aviva' thankfully.
75. Women of the Wall
Rahel ,   Jerusalem   (11.11.09)
Once again I am disappointed, but not surprised, to see the degree of ignorance about, and hatred directed against, the Women of the Wall. I too am a member, and I can testify that we have never insulted anyone who did not wish to join us. (Who did that to you, Aviva? I would seriously like to know because that is not how we behave.) We also do not invite the media to our services. However, we invite all women to come and see for themselves before making uninformed judgments against us. I also second Aliza in saying that we do indeed observe the mitzvot pertaining to women. Many of these disappointing comments only go to show that we Jews still have a long way to go in accepting those whose views differ from our own. After all, what is the Talmud, if not a record of disagreements, sometimes very sharp ones, among our sages? Why must disagreement, particularly by women, be subjected automatically to negative judgments based on ignorance and groundless hatred?
76. women of wall
hedy maimann ,   Austria   (11.11.09)
how can PRAYER desecrate a site????
77. To Rivkah #71
M. Hartley ,   Atlanta, US   (11.11.09)
What does it take to get through your head that I don't go along with religion of any kind. I consider it an insult to believe that God inspired Books, which, all the good parts notwithstanding, are full of contradictions, murder and mayhem, any more or less than He/She inspired Homer's Iliad and Odyssey, Plato's Dialogues, or Dr. Seuss' Cat in the Hat. As for my husband and to be honest, I don't have a clue where he is, but he must like it, because he hasn't come back. I would venture to guess, too, that he has no illusions that he'll get me to do from a distance what he couldn't talk me into or out of up close and personal. I will give you this much: You probably come as close as such a thing is possible to confuse the hell out of God with your convoluted BS.
78. 77 M. Hartley: Ever heard of the Final Call?
Rivkah   (11.11.09)
The step after the Final Call is that you are no longer the one hardening your heart to the Word of God (not religions but God's word). At that point, the Lord starts hardening your heart and that is irreversible.
79. People, read #49 and THEN carry on!
Mea   (11.12.09)
Thank you, Yonaton, for explaining the real truth.

super ok   (11.13.09)
#54 Says the same, and she's a woman.
81. this takes the cake
Lisa   (11.19.09)
this Rav really has a problem. Maybe it is senility? he is an authority on everything and everybody- now 'women are stupid'. Well, let's just say, most women know when to shut up- this 'unholy man' doesn't. The Western Wall is for men only? Sure- of course- and just where did God said so? These Ravs are just as sick and intolerant as the moslem mullahs.
82. #74-who are the sickos?
David ,   Philadelphia, USA   (11.19.09)
Why is it so hard for some people who consider themselves "orthodox" to give the benefit of the doubt and assume that women who wear tallitot and tefillin are actually doing it for the sake of heaven (as they ay)? And why do they also assume that such women are all non-observant? Just because you feel shocked, doesn't mean anyone is simply trying to shock you; maybe it means there's a lot more to life than you have seen up until now.
83. Another load of crap
Michael Wayne Simms ,   Dallas Texas USA   (11.23.09)
This is one in many quotes from this Rabbi that bastardize Judaism in the eyes of the non-orthodox world, and another reason he should be fired! Besides, many of his Halachot are not correct anyways.
84. substantiate
to #83 Michael ,   Jerusalem-Israel   (11.24.09)
You claim that Rav Ovadia's halachot are not always correct. Put up or shut up. I am certain that you are not and will not be of his caliber, so you are just letting off steam there, buddy. www.tamingkorach.com
